Just another little thing to note - this was NOT a crowd of Queen fans, it was a mixed crowd for a concert that went on all day (and well into the night) and many bands and singers performed. The performers all played to a mixed audience (fans of different genres) - Freddie still had them in the palm of his hand.

You need to watch their entire Live Aid set. It's over 20 minutes long, but it's considered by MANY people to be the greatest live performance in rock history! This crowd was NOT in the stadium to see Queen. This was a day long concert that took place both in London and Philadelphia with over 60 rock acts. Queen was added to the lineup after most of the concertgoers had already bought their tickets. But despite this, Freddie Mercury OWNED the stage that day and had everybody eating it up!! I was at the Philadelphia show and we got to see it all on the big screen in the stadium.

@@celt67 Sorry I'm so late getting back to you as I just realized today I'd gotten responses to this. From what I can remember, when Queen first started, the crowd in Philly kinda went silent. I don't think a lot of people even knew Queen was gonna perform. But within a short time, everyone was acting just like the crowd in London, singing along and cheering loudly. This set was in the early afternoon in Philly and we all knew that we still had a long night ahead of us. My friends that I was with at the show were all hoping that something, ANYTHING, would happen at our show that would somehow top this...but nothing really did. Even the Led Zeppelin reunion in Philly was somewhat disappointing. We kept hearing rumors that Springsteen & The E Street Band were gonna make a surprise appearance (supposedly the lighting system on the stage was Springsteen's...at least that was the rumor going around in the crowd), but of course they never did.

Freddie was a legendary performer. He had a way of just sweeping the audience up and taking them with him. In '85, he took a tired and grumpy crowd and had them eating out of his hand before the first song was done. This wasn't even a Queen crowd. Queen was a last minute addition when another act bowed out. British TV stated that, for 22 minutes, Britain was ruled by an entirely different Queen.

She's long been a fan of Queen and Freddie Mercury, and she was first noticed when she won a karaoke contest by singing "Radio Ga Ga." Because the emcee of the contest forgot her actual name (Stefani Germanotta), he came up with the impromptu nickname "Lady Ga Ga" when he announced her as the winner.

And it's basically Bob Geldof and Midge Ure the 2 main organisers of Live Aid and Paul Gambucci a very popular music critic who is originally from the USA but has lived in the UK for a long time now and Queen's Roger Taylor with a bit of input into why they thought it was so great.

Don't know if anyone else mentioned this bit of Rock trivia, but this song is where Lady Ga Ga took her name from.

You should give your reaction to Queen's complete Live Aid performance. Possibly the greatest live set of all time.

I always tell people, if I had a time machine, the FIRST (and probably only) thing I'd do, Is go back and attend this concert in Person.

Roger Taylor wrote the song after hearing his son's response to being asked to turn off the TV as Roger and his partner Domenique, who was French, were listening to the radio at the time. His son responded "Radio est kaka" (radio is shit)

In the middle of the crowd was a Sound booth, righthand side of it was a 20 year old teenager blown away with all that was going on ....... ME !!! 🤪 . A day the world stopped to listen to music .

Freddie could command an audience no matter the size, 10 or 20 thousand to 100,000+. I saw them before this came out, we got caught up in the "We Will Rock You" clapping and stomping at Madison Square Garden, all 20,000 of us.

If it wasn't for Queen's performance at live aid it wouldn't have made no where near as much money, it wasn't until their performance that the phone lines went crazy with doners calling in. You need to watch or react to Queens live performance at Montreal 1981 especially somebody to love epic

Great reaction, Shiloh! You should check out their song "Who Wants To Live Forever". I would recommend the "Highlander" version of the video. The song was written for the movie, and the video shows why the lyrics are so poignant.
