His imperfections is the main reason why he became the best frontman/showman. He is not conscious if he will have an off note or cracks, he will just go with the flow. Freddie taught us a lesson, do not pretend, let them see the flaws, the imperfections, be natural and people will love you and never forget you.
So right the true legend.
And what a lot of people don't appreciate about this 20-minute set, is the fact that this was not a Queen concert as an event in itself but Queen (collectively) did such a great set, they blew everyone else away! A truly magnificent moment in history that will never be repeated nor bettered!
First song was "Bohemian Rhapsody", second was "Radio Ga Ga", then "Ay Oh", third was "Hammer to Fall", fourth "Crazy Little Thing Called Love", least but not last "We Will Rock You" and final song was "We Are the Champions".
Queen's Live Aid concert was such an epic performance!
Freddie is just enjoying himself so much - that’s what makes this so great. Great band.
It warms my heart to see young people appreciating the BEST BAND EVER!!!! There will NEVER be another FREDDIE MERCURY 😢
Not just a deva, but the greatest front man ever.
Arguable
Amazing, considering that he was actually very shy, reserved and private about his personal life
@@iplay4266 Who is/was a better band frontman?
@@Ajs_1988 nobody
Freddie had the world in the palm of his hand that day. A master showman.
Queen should've been charged with robbery because they absolutely stole the show that day. One of the greatest live performances ever.
Freddie wrote Crazy Little Thing Called Love as a tribute to Elvis, and of course sang it in the Elvis style cause Freddie could do anything!!
It was written - i believe post elvis death as well....
A lot of Elvis impersonators do it though...
He said the title Hammer to fall before he began to sing this...crazy little thing called love was written by freddie, he told that its about 5-10mins. while taking a bath he thought of it then ask for a guitar after then headed to the studio to record..brian also added that it was almost finish when he came to finalize the guitar solo..check out the recent vids at queen official they just released..
@@tomas22432 That is true, Elvis had that very baritone voice, so he does have a lot of impersonators. I would say the impressive thing is that Freddie wrote a new song, he didn't do an Elvis cover, and people immediately think it is an Elvis song. In truth Freddie's voice is not that similar to Elvis, even on this song, it is more about the style.
@@dezperez1998 The interesting thing about the recording of Crazy Little Thing Called Love, is that Freddie originally recorded the guitar solo as well. Brian just cam afterwards and he recorded over it.
Good to see you laughing throughout (as well as being in awe of the talent) - Freddie was very funny and Queen was often deliberately tongue-in-cheek, camp and gloriously over-the-top.
Queen doesn't cover other bands' songs. Other bands cover Queen.
They sometimes did some old timey Rock n'Roll stuff, though, live. For example, at Wembley '86, they did "Baby I don't care" by Elvis, "Hello Mary Lou" by Gene Pitney and "Tutti Frutti" by Little Richard. In the early 70s, you could see them live doing "Big Spender" (Shirley Bassey) for example. Not unheard of, but more a thing to mix things up at a two hour show. In a 20 minute set, they of course didn't. (You can find great footage from the mid 70s here: czcams.com/video/aHAWQhiNgaw/video.html ...)
@@fryke I was mainly referring to the songs on their albums. I could be wrong, but I don't think they ever had any cover tunes on any of their albums. I'm sure any song they DID cover was excellent also.
@@cl8onj388 Well, just take a look at the link I posted. :) ... On the studio albums, it was only "God Save The Queen" on "A Night At The Opera", I guess. ;)
@@fryke What the hell was on Roger's head? Was it silly hat night for the rhythm section?😆 Just as I thought. They could take even songs I don't like, and make 'em likable.
@@cl8onj388 It was a Christmas party concert AFAIK. They had blow-up sex dolls the audience bumped about (like balloons on other shows) ... I guess some nights with Queen were more crazy than others. ;)
I adore watching Live Aid over and over again, matter of fact I caught it 85 Live Aid of Queen when it first aired! Queen is my ALL time fave group they don't make bands like this anymore (everything is perfected in the studio) At least w/Queen what you heard was always LIVE! Freddie is having so much fun on stage I love his smile & his playful side, he has the audience in the palm of his hands. BEST FRONT MAN EVER! HE WAS ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS LOOKING!
all comments I've read sounds pleasing to me. thanks every one. Amazing Queen is always alive. trully a legend. NO OTHER BANDS can take their place. Miss u all 4 Queen guys!
Silly thing to state music these days isn't as good because they perfect it in the studio. When queen themselves did exactly that, only with the technology they had at their disposal back then.
I watch Wembley 85 concert OVER AND OVER,
At least 5 times a day.
I'm disabled, so I have a lot of time on my hands.
Then I listen to ALL the rest of their songs at least twice a day.
Cannot live without FREDDIE MERCURY/QUEEN..........!!!!!!!!!!!
The song was Queen's first No. 1 single in the United States. Queen frontman Freddy Mercury wrote the song as a tribute to Elvis Presley, and although Mercury typically composed music on the piano, he wrote "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" on guitar - and he did it in about five to 10 minutes.
Crazy little thing called love" is a Freddie song. He wrote to honor Elvis. He whrite in the bathroom in 5 or 6 minutes.
They also made Man on the Prowl in the same style, not a hit though. But its even better!
Graciela Honig Legend has it that Freddie wrote it while taking a bath and was inspired to by the sound of the dripping water from the taps.
Thanks dear, beautiful to see Queen-Freddie 2020 and on and on.....4ever icons!!!
At the time of Live Aid I was serving in the British Royal Marine Commandos in a refugee camp in Ethiopia. We listened to it on the radio. We were surrounded by the full horror of the Famine, but when Queen came on the radio those poor soles who were there even reacted in a very positive way. I remember that a lot of us Royal Marine Commandos were crying watching some of the children dancing along, I'm teary eyed just remembering. I looked around at men I had fought alongside, who were tough, hardened Royal Marine Commandos who had fought a life and death war against Argentinian's in 82. By the end of Queen's set we were dancing with the children. It went along way to help build their trust in us. The famine is only one of many terrible memories I have from 34 years of active service, and 2 years hospitalisation. But when I remember the smiles on the children's faces, and their laughter at the terrible way we danced always reminds me that humanity will always find it's way through even the worst of times. I only watched it for the first time last year, my son put it on the TV. A lot of memories came back and a lot of tears. My amazing Wife took me to see Queen at Wembley, U.K., in 1986 two weeks after I got back from Ethiopia as a surprise. I saw Queen live 6 times in all, they were incredible live. And yes, I am an old fart.
The thing about QUeen's quitars is that Brian Built that damned thing as a teenager with his dad, so he knows it inside and out (literally), then Deacy (on the base) made a thing they cally the "Deacy Amp) that ads a uniuqe sound to Brian's sound. Add to that Freddie and Brian pretty much managed to sing together with voice and Guiatar.... you get the Unique Queen sound
That call-and-response bit he does with the crowd was a staple of Queen concerts.
Good to see someone young enjoying it as much as I did at the time!! You might have spotted me in the third row...haha. I'm 69 now and still love it all. Subscribed!
Welcome aboard!!! I really wish I would of been lucky enough to have had seen them live the way you did! it must have been incredible
Queen: we are the champion… of the world
That’s not just a song it’s a statement; they are the champions of the world
You have a point😎
The Status Quo reference was because they were the opening act and were considered 'old' by some people in the 80's as they'd been on the music scene since the 60's. Freddie used to bend over and show his backside/bum/ass as a message to their old manager who apperently wasn't very good shall we say?
Crazy little thing called love is a tribute to Elvis, written by Freddie.
I love your enthusiasm! It’s a beautiful thing to see a younger person such as yourself appreciating such a classic band! Good for you!
Brian May wrote "We will rock you" specifically because he wanted something that the audience could participate in.
Freddie really wants us to sing with him, that's what's best about freddie, the audience is happy to see them have a show
God Damn, Freddie you really were the best.
Queen wrote Crazy little thing called Love, and yes Freddie is playing the Guitar, Saw them live in 1980, in Toronto, Canada
Freddie's doctor told him not to perform or risk permanent damage to his singing voice. But give Freddie a challenge, and he rises to the top. I've never seen another person or band command an audience like Freddie and Queen. I'm sure every band has a couple of songs everyone knows and sings along to, but you mentioned many bands having Freddie's control over an audience. I'd love to see other ftontmen/women who do a call and response, or clap and raise arms when Freddie says,"everbody"! Please show those concerts, I'd love to see it. Oh, and this was not a Queen audience. Queen was added to the bill after all the tickets had been sold. So it's actually more impressive what Freddie could do with an audience that didn't come to see Queen! Lovely reaction, thanks!
folklore
Yes ive seen that interview...please check out the interviews with his PA peter who replaced paul prenter, the traitor, his closest friends and of course queen past interviews in order to learn more..its great watching those interviews, just so you won't be mislead of saying something you dont know...
Although stadium concerts are common place now, and there have been other performers who have demonstrated a command of the audience, Queen was the first act to fill stadiums for their concerts and the first to encourage the audience to be part of the performance. NO ONE has ever come close to Freddie in his ability to engage the audience.
@@linusromey561 The instrument Freddy played was the audience.
It is nice that a lot of people were exposed to Queen because of the movie. But hopefully people know that there was a lot of fiction involved in the lead up to Live Aid. Queen had just finished their very successful Work's tour 5 weeks before Live Aid, were they played for over 400k people in Brazil. They were a well oiled machine, and they had more experience then most of the others when it comes to playing stadiums.
Yes a lot of fiction right through the movie and people who haven't been Queen fans for many years tend to believe the movie
Like I've said to other reactor's, Queen was a late edition to the program. You are seeing 70+ thousand there, another 90+ thousand in Philadelphia PLUS over 1.2 BILLION around the world! Watched this when I was 30 and it still gives me goosebumps every time I see it! Do yourself a favour and watch the documentaries about how this event came about. The day rock 'n roll brought the world together.
Queen was a stadium band, every other group were concerned mostly with filling arenas.
Tony Preston got it on DVD
You can find "Live Aid-Against all Odds" in two parts on CZcams:
Part 1: czcams.com/video/h33i52ZtC8w/video.html
Part 2: czcams.com/video/xKee1XllWoo/video.html
They discuss Queens performance in Part 2
I've seen Queen about 6 times. He believed in audience participation. He was so much FUN.
You are So Lucky to have been there for even one Performance.
I wish I were you, I lived in rural Montana then, so All we could do is watch the live stream version. But even then, OMG!!!!!
My favorite concert is this one.
Favorite songs are:
The Great Pretender,
Barcelona,
Love Me Like There's No Tomorrow,
Somebody to Love,
Don't Stop Me Now,
Etc,
Etc,
Etc,
Etc,
For context: This concert was simulcast in the U.S., the U.K and all around the world. During Radio Gaga, 80,000-90,000 people in the U.K... and nearly the same number in the U.S. and countless more in stadiums and watching on TV around the world were ALL clapping in unison... AMAZING!
Wow! That's is absolutely incredible!
Crazy little thing I love is a Queen Song written as a tribute TO Elvys Presley.
I think Elvys smiled that day from heaven. Damn who wouldn't want to get a tribute like that. A tribute from a legend to a legend.
Freddie plays four instruments 1. piano 2. guitar 3. vocals and 4. the audience... he is the best performer EVER with his 3 dudes on his side, they making the best band EVER. Rest In Peace Freddie Legend Mercury. i love you. and your fans love and miss you very much buddy!!!
Somebody back stage started saying " THEY ARE STEALING THE SHOW ' and everybody started saying back stage, they are stealing the show, over and over again as long as Queen was on and after !!!
Queen the greatest band ever, Freddie Mercury the greatest singer ever, Brian May the greatest guitarist ever. Queen's music and Freddie's recorded singing will always make me proud to be British. Freddie will always be a icon and his music will live forever. Freddie is alive in our hearts and minds for ever. For us Queen fans he still lives with us and in us. RIP Freddie we will always love you. 😢❤🎤🎶🎵📻💿🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
I have been listening to Queen since 1972 , the best band ever and Freddie is amazing ❤️❤️❤️❤️
The name of the song is HAMMER TO FALL
"Hey hey hey Hammer to fall" was a bit of a clue.
@@baylessnow I didn't need this clue to find it because i'm a real big fan of this band. But yes that was easy to find.
@@baylessnow Or the fact that RIGHT before the song, Freddie shouts "Hammer To Fall!". As if he wanted to tell the audience the title of the next song. As some singers sometimes do.
I’ve seen Live Aid when it first. It’s so amazing to watch a new generation react. Well done 😊
Freddie was dancing with the camera man
lol yeah. having a blast with him
Freddie wrote this crazy little thing called love sitting in the bath...best frontman ever..best band ever 🌹
I get that on my nose if I wear my glasses too long. I also wear lenses and it goes away if I wear them for a bit.
That other song is called “Hammer to fall”. It’s on the Works album.
Crazy Little Thing Called Love is definitely a Queen original.
No crazy little thing called love is a Queen song
wrote in a bathroom, he drag his piano to compose the song
@R&T M yes but it's Freddie Mercury after all
Written by Freddie as a tribute to Elvis
That piano you heard in Crazy little thingthing called love was being played by Spike Edny. He did all the piano when Freddie wasn't playing it on stage.
Well...not really a reactionnif you'll sing the whole thing. But, enjoy. ;)
70,000 people at Wembley Stadium...and I would've loved to have been there. Lots of acts at that daylong event, but, Queen stole the show that day.
"Ready Freddie!" His tribute to Elvis.
Thank you for your react, the «Elvis-song» is made by Freddie as a tribute to Elvis. Queen never coverd any other band or artist. This day it was 72.000 there on Wembley, 94.000 in Philadelphia and 1.9 billion tv-wiers……and Queen play all of the outher band out of the stage!
Freddie wrote crazy little thing called love in 1979. Elvis died in 1977.
Yeah I read that Freddie was a big fan of Elvis so it was like in honor of Elvis. Freddie just so damn fantastic just everything about him --- yeah i have a HUGE crush on Freddie since Queen debut.
I’ve heard he wrote it while in the bath tub😁
Name of the song as Freddie said before it starts Hammer to Fall. One of the few songs of Queen that became dated to a certain extent. It was about the cold war going hot. Nuclear war. But it has become fairly current again in recent times. Queen never did covers. Freddie in later years would solo the best known of which is Great Pretender. If you want to hear something very different look for Barcelona, which he wrote.
Keep watching ,they came back on.
This is a Queen song, written by Freddie in15 minutes in the bathtub as a tribute song to ELVIS! 3 years after Elvis died. Good ear young lady! 👍
ooh wow that is so cool! the song does have that Elvis feel! thank you for telling me the story behind the song 😊
Freddie Mercury was the greatest singer and showman of all time, there will never be a singer again like Freddie. Also Queen was the greatest band of all time and my all time favourite band. RIP Freddie. 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
that's what the band and Freddie Mercury wanted most of all is to have audience participation they loved it. And apparently so did the people that came to see him you saw how many were there and that was just a small part of the amount of people that actually saw the Live Aid we love you Freddie always and forever you are the best of the best fly high Freddie fly high
Freddie wrote Crazy Little Thing Called Love in 1979, as a tribute to Elvis, who died 2 years previously in 1977. Rumours are he wrote it in 10 minutes in a hotel bath! The other song, was Hammer To Fall, written by Brian May (lead guitar).
Not a rumour...freddie and brian told it in a separate interview...you may check the studio verse/mtv of queen, freddie wore black jacket no mustache yet....queen sang their own songs of course, even all of performers at live aid...
It’s good to see young people appreciating the music I grew up with.
YES being there was crazy.............being part of this is without words.....love your reaction and emotion...
not the full set, freddie and bryan returned later in the evening to perform another song "is this the world we created", all youtubers should look for the real full set !
RAZ63 also during Crazy Little Thing that beautiful guitar of Freddie’s started screeching and wouldn’t stop. They’ve wiped that awful sound from the videos but I think that’s why he lifts it over his head like he wants to smash it but thinks better of it. Great control of his temper. ❤️🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Freddie truly loved the audience and performrd with such joy that spread to everyone who is within hearing range. I don't think the film captured his charisma and that joyous love for performing, but Rami did a good job in the film
Yes, there are some who are good at connecting with an audience - but no one comes even a little bit close to Freddie. There can be only one. 😊♥️
I could give a damn about his personal life, Freddie is unreplacable and left us wat too early.
As many have commented they eere asked to do Is This the World We Created at the end of the show. Its just Freddie & Brian with his 12 string. It’ a beautiful performance & they were asked to do it specifically bc it’s theme was so relevant to the concert.
You get a copyright strike it you upload Is This The World We Created, from Live Aid. You can post the one from Wembley, for example, but you cannot post the Live Aid version.
**Zenobia** I did not know that. Thanks.
Crazy Little Thing Called Love (written in 1979) is a Queen song. According to Brian May, originally they would've recorded this in a regular Queen style, but Freddie Mercury wanted the song to be a tribute to the King (who died 2 years earlier), hence, the Elvis-Presley-Styled-Original-Queen song, "Crazy Little Thing Called Love"
The song is Hammer to fall.
Honey and lemon for his throat.
Freddie wrote this as a tribute to Elvis in 10 minutes. He wrote it in 1979.
Crazy Little Thing Called Love.
Crazy Little Thing Called Love is a queen song.... also, yes he played guitar, piano. bass, harmonica among other instruments. but if you could ask Freddy what his best instrument he plays.... he'd say "Oh the crowd darling" also. if you're not familiar with their songs, just type queen songs in youtube search, you'll find alot of them. i think you'd like "don't stop me now" from them most
That song was called Hammer To Fall
Great performance from a great group and the greatest performer
Even in Philly Stadium they were clapping at the same time by the Song radio ga ga 🇪🇸✋😊
FYI 'WORKS' was the name of their newly released LP during the concert, hence the banners held up saying QUEEN WORKS
Freddie wrote Crazy Little Thing in about 10 minutes while he was taking a bubble bath. Elvis never sand it....it was released 2 years after Elvis passdaway.
I have just finally watched the movie a couple of weeks ago and I can't get enough!! I have literally watched it several times since then and watched the First Reactions from numerous YT people, and have watched the side by side comparison of Freddie at Live Aid, vs. Rami in the movie countless times!!
Same here ! Well not until now saw the live aid lol but I think the movie was very well made. And I'm so glad they made it because even though not everything is down to a T its bring new audiences to Queen's music and not letting that music stay in the past .
This video is a masterclass in how to be a showman and Freddie was the ultimate showman, This is Music as it should be no Autotune no backing tracks just sheer talent.
Thanks for your reaction i appreciate it 🙏🏽
Last month Australia held a Live Aid contest to help with the devastation left by the forest fires. Queen recreated this exact set for that concert. Can you imagine - 35 years after the first live aid concert, they did it again. And with exactly the same crowd reaction. They're an amazing group, aren't they.
It is somewhat ridiculous to just copy the legendary Live Aid set again.
Queen and Queen+ Adam Lambert are not the same thing. Queen ended in 1991 and they did it just once.
He's a great Showman
Watch how Freddie brings the songs to a close. He is a true bandleader. The song you asked the title of is hammer to fall.
Realize two things: This is considered the best concert performance in rock history, and seeing Queen live was 10 times better than watching a video.
yeah I bet it was! watching a video of their performance gives you an idea of what it was like. But you will never fully understand how it really felt to be there.
@@TinyMA Thanks. As you probably guessed, I am speaking from experience. I had a royal audience with Freddie, Brian, Roger, and John in November, 1978 at the Richfield Coliseum outside Cleveland, OH.
Wow that must of been an incredible experience! I'm a bit jealous haha. I'm someone that listen to what is consider classic rock so it really suck I will never be able to attend those concerts. But I love hear stories from people that did have that chance. 😊
A queen song with Freddie paying homage to Elvis.
That is why queen were and always will be the legends
Love love Freddie ❤❤❤❤
When Freddie goes on stage he carries a mic in one hand the audience in the other.
Queen didn't mess around, they came out said "We will rock you" then proceeded to do exactly that.
His good friend David Bowie was the guy to follow them. Was on the Mighty Ducks 2 movie lol
Yes, Crazy Little Thing Called Love is a Queen song. But Freddie is channeling his best Elvis impersonation during the performance.
I can tell! the song does have that Elvis feel to it
8:39 ..... Crazy how the MASS can unite in tune for a single purpose!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Crowd in THE PALM OF HIS HAND.
The best live performance ever
Freddy write it in the bath tub in honor of Elvis. Brain built his guitar with his dad. Deacy built from scratch the deacy amp which is giving Brian’s guitar the sound you hear. Their sound was theirs and theirs alone
Important to note this was not a Queen crowd ,it was live aid with multiple bands ,but as you can see Freddy and Queen had the crowd in the palm of their hands . Amazing !!!
Love of my life at Wembley 1986
Hammer To Fall is that song. It was the huge hit from their album at the time Queen Works. That beautiful guitar ,The Red Special, is still Brian’s main instrument today. He and his Dad built it when Brian was a teen. He’s been using it on their Rhapsody Tour. Amazing. Now watch the same set done by Queen and Adam Lambert done at the FireFight charity concert in Australia. Wonderful.
the song is Hammer to Fall..... another fact from that event. This performance was broadcast in the US and they also all clapped at the same time they did in the stadium.
Watching these reactions in amazes me all the "isn't crazy little thing called love an Elvis song?"😂
😂😂
the name of the song is Hammer to Fall
The song you asked about was "Hammer to fall" and what you saw in this video was possibly the best live performance by any band ever.
Brian May built his own guitars and returned to university some years after Freddie died and resumed his studies. He now has a Masters in Astrophysics. Have heard he does do some research in it as well!
Crazy little thing is 100% a queen song, Freddie wrote in less than a hour I believe.
whilst in the bath.
maybe a Elvis tribute, but definitely not a elvis song.
Crazy Little thing is 100% a queen song, it was written after the King died, by Freddie. Legend has it in the bath.
I was 12. I grew up listening to queen. When the news came Freddie and the band were getting back together for live aid was major news for us. 10 miles from the stadium we gathered around the tv in our front room waiting for queen. Turns out, the volume wasn’t needed! Amazing memories ❤️
My girl I really enjoyed your reaction. They played another song later that day entitled "is this the world we created"; an acoustic song only Brian and Freddie. I suggest you to check it out :)
I will defiantly be checking out ! thank you :D
@@TinyMA You are welcome :D
Song : Hammer to fall
If Freddie's not in Heaven, then I ain't going!
lol same
The song you didnt know that you liked is called "Hammer to Fall" from the album called "The works". and reading between the lines the songs about growing up during the cold war and watching all the bomb testing. Might be wrong but that's my guess. And yes it's one of my fav Queen songs.
I know it is a bit out of date but I just found this video, thanks it's very good. p.s.your hair is great.
God I love freddie so much ugh 💓
