you do realize they dont intentionally try to starve their chilren ? Most times they dont notice that what you're feeding your child may not be enough. I was an overweight child at some point but my parents loved me like hell, does that mean they abused me ? No lol they just dont know much about nutrition like most parents
NOTE: i feel like there is a misunderstanding in what i was trying to say prior to a year ago, in no way am i saying this is a justification for child neglect. Nothing can every justify that, however, it is an explanation as to why this may occur. I am soley trying to give out a reason as to why this happened bc truly i dont believe that most people have the heart to starve or overfeed their children, and this couple in specific i dont think intentionally tried harming their children. Repeating once more, it doesn't have a justification for the underlying issues, and I'm not trying to side that what they're doing is okay

@@cai3886 sometimes things go unnoticed. You never know until its too late. I had a friend who got diagnosed with diabetes as a kid. Im sure as hell their parents wouldve tried to prevent it if they knew what was going on. Symptoms at times arent shown and thats the scary part. I believe that if we have kids, we should be taking care of them properly and such but cant you be at least a little understanding that not all parents are evil bc they dont always notice their children are lacking in nutrients and minerals. I mean c'mon most westerners dont care about nutrition and what they feed their children yet we still give them the golden pass solely bc of "culture"

At least an updated nutrition information. Now, my high school didn't require home ec, but did require us to take a health class for a semester (where the other semester would be gym) were we did talk about "proper nutrition". The problem with their lessons though is that they were extremely outdated, using videos and text books from the 80's and early 90's and this was 2009 when I took health class. A lot of the stuff that we were taught were also inaccurate like saying the BMI charts are accurate for everyone. Also, from what I gathered that my high school's home ec class taught, weren't even really healthy recipes. A lot of the times they were cakes, pasta dishes, casseroles. So, it's not just about having these classes available but also making sure there is accurate and updated information in these classes.

In Finland nutrition is taught appropriately according to age to children. I remember learning about the plate model and the food pyramid when I was a kid, about 8 years old maybe? Home economics is taught for one school year (7th grade, kids are 13) for three hours a week. In home economics kids learn how to plan a proper meal, how to cook, how to clean and how to manage a household. In home economics class they also make vegetarian meals and talk about vegan meals and how to balance them. In Health ed. class you also learn about nutrition amongst other things related to health and well-being.
I am really grateful that I am receiving this kind of education.

Monami mentioned that her daughter's favorite food or meal is rice with ketchup, hence why she eats it so much. That's like giving a child dry cereal for breakfast because they love cereal but they are fussy and don't like it with milk. It's not a complete meal but I've seen many parents do it and I'm from a Slavic country where nutrition is very black&white. We have a big "grandma" culture a.k.a whatever granny gives you, you eat and you don't question how healthy things are because most of the time it's fried, "soul" type of food that's high in fat or sugar but if you dare speak about that or judge the food that it's given, it will be viewed as very disrespectful. My granny used to give me and my little brother HALF A CHICKEN with corn and fries for lunch when we were little and now that I'm vegan she and my grandpa still give my little brother things like frozen pizza, candy, chips and soda and when I tell them it's not healthy they say mind-blowing things like "but having soda is like drinking water and having pizza is basically eating 2-3 slices of bread". My point is: 95% of the population is fed a diet that is probably not nutritionally adequate but we are still somewhat "healthy". Kids in Asian countries eat rice with veggies for lunch, breakfast and dinner and that according to their country is considered a healthy meal. If you didn't give the child rice for a meal it would be called child abuse. She has a burger place, I'm sure Gabby eats there very often too so she has her "favorite" meals at home.

Second, stop with the vegan dick measuring contest. Every vegan seems to have it out for everyone else to judge how vegan they are, how they're not good enough etc.
Thirdly, many children love meat. Many children lack the desire to give up meat with their level of understanding. What you're suggesting is shocking them with gruesome stories of animal abuse to scare them into veganism, which I find cruel and manipulative. As a parent, you can control a child's perspective.
She feeds her kids plant based/vegetarian, but she doesn't control every aspect of their life, like of they're at a friend's house and have to tell the mom they can't eat anything. This'll help them grow up socially much better.
It's okay to let your children decide. If you believe in "conditioning to eat meat", then how the hell did most vegans choose for themselves to become vegan? Controlling a child isn't good, and if this is how she chooses to let her child grow up and make their own choice when they're older, you have no right to act like a condescending judge.

Did anyone tell my parents they were immoral for continuing to press us to eat it? No. Everyone has a 'refused to eat broccoli' type of story. For a lot of vegan "influencers" and the most vocal vegans on the net, it's not about health or ethics. It's about control. They need to feel like they're in control of their bodies and their world, and controlling their food is a way to do that. It's why so many are borderline anorexic, because anorexia also has a control component. Labeling it Vegan lets them hide their issues and insecurities under a veneer of moral superiority so they have a ready response to people who are worried about them. Getting informed and learning about proper nutrition is out of the question because it forces them to put themselves into question.
The enemy of veganism isn't anti-vegan meat eaters, it's both these "Vegans" and poor mental health support and education.

Some of it is mental illness, like she says, but most of it is due to high levels of narcissism. You see this often in health guru's, therapists, and clergy. They project an image that is beyond reproach, but in reality their stance is less based on fact, and more based on their desire to be right, in control, worshipped, and trusted without question. It has very severe consequences on naive people, which is why I encourage everyone to do their own research, not with opinion pieces written by self-proclaimed guru's and influencers, but written by impartial research firms/colleges.

I once commented on a Monami Frost video about what she ate in a day while pregnant. I told her how unhealthy it was to eat so much sugar and carbs crammed into so few calories, and how her unborn baby was taking the brunt of her poor choices. I suggested more avocados on her toast and some pea protein powder in her smoothie bowls. Things that are both vegan and incredibly simple to incorporate into her regular diet and I was attacked for it by vegans who said ‘it’s just a day, mind your business.’ She even disabled the comments on that video and then made a separate video afterwards ranting about how she’s fine and we need to leave her alone. Yet she’s literally putting herself out there as a vegan role model. The whole community is so toxic and so willing to turn a blind eye to obviously inappropriate diet choices because they’re too proud and ignorant to admit they need to go back to the drawing board and actually learn about balanced nutrition.

IAmAgainst well, like I said, she puts herself out there as a vegan role model. It is, quite literally, her job to do better. If she’s going to put something up on the internet that’s unhealthy and unbalanced, then she’s going to get backlash from people who actually know about nutrition, vegan or not. She gives herself and the community a bad name when she’s eating an incomplete diet and then broadcasting it like its okay and normal. That gives anti-vegans all the fuel they need to do what they do and it also opens the doors for competent vegans to criticize and make suggestions. Because at the end of the day, she’s a popular face of the community and she’s promoting a harmful way of eating.

IAmAgainst First of all, I’m not a vegan, so you can miss me with that attitude. I’m not even a vegetarian. Second, the whole point of my original comment to Monami was to give her advice about eating a more balanced diet while pregnant, because I’m tired of seeing starving women on social media who know nothing about nutrition taking it upon themselves to spread misinformation to their followers. A vegan diet can be balanced with the right supplements, but you never see it because most of the popular faces in the community just want to sit on a beach somewhere with their ukulele and eat fruit all day. It’s their JOB to be a vegan role model. They signed up for it. No one put a gun to their head. And most of them aren’t doing good enough. Go to any of their comment sections and you’ll see people as young as 11 or 12 saying they want to go vegan and save the animals and be healthy, but since these role models they admire so much aren’t giving them facts and data and proof that their diets are safe and whole, these kids will just mimic what they see and the cycle will repeat itself. That’s why I’m upset. Not at veganism, just at vegans.

For anyone who doesnt know, cheek piercings need to be done by an experienced professional piercer cuz if you get the wrong place you risk piecing a saliva gland, not to mention how much tissue you have to go through, placement with gums, and just the fact that you need multiple follow ups to check on the healing and switch the jewlery to accomidate swelling.

Yes! Love unatural vegan and her logical, scientific approach, but at times I can get frustrated with how she wants you to basically become a full out researcher for nutrition or see a dietitian. Many cannot afford to see a dietitian, don't have the time, resources, or education to properly research (with all the missinformation and illegitimate sources out there this can be a very difficult task), or simply do not understand or cannot grasp wide nutritional ideas. Nutrition can be confusing, even for well educated and scientific thinkers! I would love if she did a series where she breaks down our nutritional needs for adults and kids, what fulfilling those needs does for our bodies, and how you can fullfill them (generally or vegan focused). I know shes not a nutritionist and I love that she makes sure to stress that, but because she isn't one she can often make the information more understandable to the general public. 😍

@@kiernanscanlon8965 sorry for this novel... but, unfortunately, it's not really practical or fair to ask her to essentially summarize a minimum of 4 years of formal education into a [series of] video[s]. Not only is nutrition confusing for educated folk, but what we learn about it changes... well... basically all the time. Adding a vegan component to it actually makes it even trickier since there is not as much research for every nutritional component in the same way there has been for a traditional omnivorous diet. You have to start understanding concepts like bio-availability and ditch everything you know about RDAs, because the amount of iron your body absorbs from plants is not the same amount of iron your body absorbs from meats, despite being labeled as having an equivalent amount, or that you should be consuming sugar with plant-based iron in order to increase bio-availability, or, again, how much your body can actually use (2013 Christides, Sharp). The human body is just way too complicated, and there are so many nutritional related problems that can happen (sometimes, it is what you're eating, sometimes, it is your genetics making your body not use it right), that it is impossible to cover everything. Just listen to your body. If you feel healthy, you are probably doing something right. If you aren't feeling healthy, you either need to research what is ailing you for yourself, or talk (AND LISTEN) to a professional, even (I can't stress this enough...) if it means (temporarily) abandoning your diet/lifestyle to get achieve good health. If you can find the solution in a standard diet, figure out how to get there with your preferred diet. Also, recognize and respect that what might work for your body, might not work for others. Health is not black and white; vegan or omnivore...

Yes these diets can be wonderfully healthy but it is so important to get properly educated and so many people don't want to put in that effort. Of course with any diet it is important to be educated but especially when you are taking away most peoples staple foods for certain important vitamins and proteins. I didn't even know a few years ago that there were different types of protein until I was doing research on the vegetarian diet.

I just started watching your videos s few months ago and you are amazing. I was vegan for about 2 years to help my mom get healthy and help her lose some weight- so I started getting creative with what I cooked. I made almost all her food meal prep style (shes actively ignorant when it comes to learning how to cook lol so I’m figured it’d be easier to just double what I made her and eat that; so I was an incidental vegan but ended up really liking it)
I cooked her favorite flavors and recipes and made them all vegan with a bit of effort. I did all this in my mid to late 20s in my own kitchen then drove it 30 mins to her house twice a week when I went to see her so she’d have healthy and delicious food. I love my mother and it was fun learning about substitutions and cooking new menus and figuring out how to make everything healthier and pack it all with all kinds of nutrients, if can do that and work full time and basically support by boyfriend, how can someone not do this for their own kids? I just don’t understand? I get sometimes you’re in a rush or can’t cook or you’re ignorant about what is healthy, you learn becasue you love someone. The woman that wrote the article is half right, neglect is neglect, but like you said this kid starved for the parents inane beliefs that they’re foisting on their kid. I understand it is more pricey sometimes, but I didn’t spend a ton of money, I was able to budget pretty damn well and it was a bit cheaper not buying a variety of meat- aside from what my boyfriend wanted- it’s about how your prioritize. If the parents can afford the diet then they can afford to give the kid something balanced.
I don’t have a child yet but there isn’t a single belief I hold in this world that I wouldn’t break for my kids, really any kids, health, safety, and well being.
That being said, I did all this nutritional research and my vitamin D levels still tanked (I have kidney issues too so it wasn’t solely diet, my levels weren’t great to start but they got so low I was on 10,000iu prescribed a day) yeah it’s hard to balance everything. When it becomes dangerous is when you have to sacrifice your bullshit and worry about the life of your kid instead of if there is dairy in formula. I just can’t imagine a growing child that’s being fed basically potato water (which is like the least nutritious food on earth) being able to function or their brain to function, it’s disgusting.

I don't know how far this would go, but I strongly wish that my education featured a detailed and lengthy course explicitly revolving around nutrition and went into detail not only about standard nutrition, but about vitamins, allergies, various diets and dietary restrictions and how to do each and every one of them in a safe and healthy way--at least the ones that aren't so crazy restrictive that they can't be done in a healthy and safe way. Maybe a part of the problem is that education on diets is so heavily ignored in this country where I can't even remember a nutrition lecture in any of my health classes. We also don't really put any emphasis on dietitians to the point where I've had conversations with people who didn't even know that was a real profession. I mean It's complaining about something that will probably never be changed whereas at least your discussion could possibly reach some of these influencers, but if there was a bigger emphasis on diet education, then hopefully more people wouldn't see some 98 lbs woman raving about the newest 8-bananas-and-an-almond diet and think for a second that this is something perfect for a 6 month old toddler.

      @gosia9631 Před 5 lety +10

Lack of nutrition education is a big problem in most countries, so I don't think the US should beat itself up too much on this one. A lot of reasons cause that, from simply lack of interest on the government/education boards side to big companies lobbying to fear of parents being mad that their kids are taught that what they eat at home is trash. It's also unclear when such education should take place as our food habits form really early, but most people start caring about nutrition in their late teens if at all. On a personal side: I'm currently in med school and will have a total of 0 hours of nutrition classes before I become an MD, so a big change is definitely needed. I feel that as of now it is expcted that everyone just somehow becomes interested in nutrition and stumbles into the correct info.

A lot of people, including myself, grew up with really bad nutrition advice that just keeps getting repurposed and repackaged. There's a process of undoing that bad advice and it has to be based in a fundamental understanding of why we do these things. It's much easier to call bullshit on bad diets when you actually have a firm grasp of why eating 20 bananas in a day isn't nutritionally sound. This isn't just a vegan thing. This is a human thing.

They had the means to provide their kids with the best and most nutritious food, to take them to the best dieticians and paediatricians in the country - many of which are within a 5 kilometre radius of their suburb. One of the two major children’s hospitals in the state is located just a 15 minute drive away.

My mother was (is) the best intentioned.
I was born at home. I was taken to the dentist, but never to the doctor.
I wasn't immunized. My mom believed that doctors were only for emergencies.
My mom took amazing care of me. We had a variety of foods, much of it garden grown. We lived in poverty so suffice to say, most children in well to do scenarios did not receive the care that I did, vegan or not.
We weren't plant based. We did not go to restaurants or eat fast food, we were fed meat. I asked to be vegetarian when I was 3 and my mom granted that desire despite our limited means, because she respected my moral stance.
My mom made a lot of mistakes despite her good intentions. But she fed and nourished her effing children.
My mom had no money, no resources, not even a high school education and she was painfully young. But she nourished us. She did breastfeed, which isn't required, and once we were given solid food she was diligent in what we were given to eat.
My point-people can be out there and my mom was (is). They can be terribly misguided, but that doesn't equate to total ignorance and neglect.
These people are clearly popping out "vegan" babies with no knowledge or regard to the care of a child. It IS a vegan issue. These people call themselves vegan and they're ignoring basic physiology and science BASED on their veganism. They're following dangerous vegan pseudoscience and applying it to the care of their infants and children. It IS a vegan issue; people need to stop being more concerned about veganism than the health and state of these neglected children. Yes, children can be raised as healthy vegans, of course. But that ideal should not take precedence over human lives. Come on.

The first two years I just wasn't getting enough nutrients because of the way I was eating and it took a toll on me.
Once I became concerned about my nutrition, I made changes and saw great improvements. So initially, going vegan had negative impacts. Over time, extremely positive. But that's because everyone needs to focus on nutrition.

you're right, many vegans have no idea what they are talking about. a vegan diet can be healthy and you can get all the nutrients your body needs as long as you know what you are doing and the problem is people don't spend the time to research or learn about being vegan.
this is the first video I have seen where a vegan actually explains a proper vegan diet in a helpful way.

Sickens me when some vegans are like "but what about parents who feed them McDonalds for all meals?"
Gonna burst that bubble right there. Aside from saturated and trans fats, three Happy Meals a day is far more nutritionally adequate compared to a rice and oats diet. Still lacking... But at least it provides more nutrients.

If you need any help, you can ask me. I've been vegetarian all of my life, vegan for some of it. I know good recipes and such, if you need help. Just fyi, legumes and beans are a good source of protein, nuts and seeds are a good source of healthy fat, fruits and veggies are good providers of vitamins and minerals, grains are good carbohydrates. That's essentially what you need in your diet. Variety is good, don't just stick to the same thing over and over again. Best of luck, enjoy your diet and life. :)

@@piiinkDeluxe this is not actually true though. kids end up preferring bland food because we THINK they prefer bland & sweet food so that is what we start feeding them from birth (post breast/formula feeding). But the truth is, kids (and especially babies) do not taste the way we do. They do not have preconceived notions on taste of foods. You can see this plainly as many kids will start eating a bowl spicy salsa off of the table while no one is looking. Kids generally end up "liking" bland food because that is what we believe they like from birth and is what we feed them. If we were to feed them well seasoned foods and not shy away from flavorful foods like sauerkraut, kimchi, arugula, lemon, unsweetened (preferably homemade with real bacteria/cultures) yogurt/kefir and pretty much just any food we eat, they would not infact like bland food.
