WHAT IS THE ATHEIST EXPERIENCE?
The Atheist Experience is a weekly cable access television show in Austin, Texas geared at a non-atheist audience. The Atheist Experience is produced by the Atheist Community of Austin.
The Atheist Community of Austin is organized as a nonprofit educational corporation to develop and support the atheist community, to provide opportunities for socializing and friendship, to promote secular viewpoints, to encourage positive atheist culture, to defend the first amendment principle of state-church separation, to oppose discrimination against atheists and to work with other organizations in pursuit of common goals.
We define atheism as the lack of belief in gods. This definition also encompasses what most people call agnosticism.

Adam sounds like one of those “stealth theists” who wants to claim he’s an atheist because he knows it’ll give him more credibility than admitting he believes in childish fairy tales.😂
He's a non-stop talker!!! Geeeeez!!!
Sounds like a complete tool. One of the dull, seldom used ones.
Exactly what brought me down to the comments. The more he talks the more clear it seems to become he’s a secret theist.
Not even secret - just a theist wearing a paper mask of a strawman atheist.
It’s kind of amazingly dumb.
These two are a perfect combo.
I agree! Martin with Matt was also another great combo!
Jeff Dee and Matt Dillahunty: the dynamic duo of the Atheist Experience!!
Jeff was one of the only co-hosts that Matt didn’t trample over.
John, please go change the battery in that smoke detector.
lol he called into another show and his smoke detector was chirping then as well
What be a battery?
That’s his Everything Is Okay alarm.
@ConfusionFusion
Just say Amen next to it. Isn't that Christian for abracadabra?

The U.S. was founded to be a Christian nation? Oh really? Let's see how far we can get with that. The first commandment: Tho shalt have no other God's before me. The first amendment: Freedom of religion. Well we didn't get too far did we?
Rapists should not be jailed according to the bible. They should pay 50$ shekel, whatever that is to the father. In fact, the word jail appears 0 times, so why does France, Germany, Estonia, Canada, Israel, USA have jails?
Nobody obeys the jewish god, not even the jews.
America was formed because Europeans wanted to get away from the strictly enforced Christianity in Europe where Catholics and Protestants were savagely butchering each other in the name of their "loving god". Look at America now. Religion is like fuckin herpes.
Old Scratch US law is reminicant of cannon law ... Which is catholic , latin writings .
That's not really true. A huge portion of people were leaving to america were going there to establish a religious utopia.
@@_Somsnosa_ America was actually formed to continue the horrible practice of slavery, because that institution was being threatened in Great Britain. The merchant class did not want to give up what was lucrative because GB was initiating an abolitionist movement out of necessity. In the end, it was about money and imperialism. Puritanism and those religious revivalist movements just came for the ride and were used to justify slavery, expansionism, conquest, imperialism, etc.
Adam must be a troll...
listening to adam's nearly incoherent babble and seeing Matt's gradual frustration is hilarious to me.
Adam is the most annoying human being in human history.
+Caligula Caesar
LOL! What was he trying to convey? Is he against outspoken atheists?
He's that athiest who feels there's no point in making any effort at all and doesn't seem to understand why other atheists do... Also, he was boring AF!
The title of most annoying person goes to dr. Dino Kent hovind
I sincerely thank AE for the work they're doing.
I suspect Adam NY (16:40) was not an atheist.
Same here.
I'd bet folding paper on that one.
He thinks too much b4 saying anything.
Bring back the Dee!
The Dee-zler meister?
Albert Guilmont why should anyone believe you?
@@AlbertGuilmont You're an idiot.
@@AlbertGuilmont who did matt kick out? And what would Jeff of all people disagree with him on?
@@AlbertGuilmont and how do you know any of that? "Its history" is not a citation.
"Albert Guilmont ate mac and cheese for dinner".
Saying things doesnt make em so.
I'm a new non believer and I've only seen 2 episodes with Jeff Dee (typically, I've only been watching Matt's episodes because he's the head honcho), but I think Jeff is hilarious. His frustration with some of the callers goes from zero to 100 super fast, and I like it when he just tears into their asses! I really like the Atheist Experience and I"m already getting crap from friends (even my friends who are not religious and are not Christians) saying Atheist don't know a damn thing about "anything".It pisses me off that they are naive (just like I use to be) about atheism/agnostic free thinking. I want to learn how to educate more about free thinking but I think i have years of studying to do before I can do that. Thank you AE for all you guys do!
He inspired in me a new line, “Prove it or go away”. If you’re convinced of a thing that you say you CAN’T !3 wrong on; prove it or go away.
Adam's question about why they do the show reminded me of the old proverb "A society grows great when old men plants trees who's shade they shall never sit." If we all acted upon only in our own interests for short term gains, we would have an incredibly shit society with virtually no infrastructure.
Callers who say " i used to be an athiest" are flat out telling a lie
Most people that premise their argument with that are about to state an argument from authority fallacy
Jeff doesn't take no shit
Yah he needs to chill a little :-) lol He's great though
I believe the correct grammar is 'Jeff ain't take no shit, Biatch'
happinessrunns as well as he shouldn’t lol. You ever notice he has like a grinch type demeanor when he’s just sitting and listening to callers?
boy. That Adam was rambling on without making a point. I don't get why he got all that time on air. As you can see: atheism is not a belief. Just a position on the god claim. Adam is not a person I would feel comfortable with.
I suspect Adam is actually a theist. Whether he knows it or is lying is another matter entirely.
Adam is a weird @$$ idiot.
My ears bled and my brain ached with that atheist Adam of new york. I wonder why the hosts wasted time on him.
What were they supposed to do???
@@BolasDaGrk Move on to another caller. They do it all the time when a conversation is going no where.
Adam is killing me.
He made no sense
@Mike Smith There might be an "a" too much there.
Right. He wants to come out and say he’s scared to be an atheist but he’s too scared to say it. Lol
9 years! How the time has gone! So refreshing to hear Jeff and Matt bantering together.
I first encountered them on the ACAs Internet talk show, “The Non-Prophets”. Then TAE got me hooked.
This will be a great re-listen.
Smoke alarm beep was present during John from Chicago's previous call on a different day.
Is it possible he in unaware of the beep's source? That pitch/volume is virtually impossible to ignore, so there has to be a continually-reniforced decision to do nothing about it for the duration of silence, until the subsequent beep and decision to do nothing again.
I am far from excitable or reactionary -- an old friend once remarked if I were any more mellow, I'd be in a coma -- but I lasted about 5 minutes at a beeping clients' house before I took off to purchase a 9volt to make it go away.
I can't comprehend enduring that sound for weeks on end. How bloody committed to laziness can one be?
Oh thank you for explaining the fire alarm beeping! I was in the shower and kept hearing it. Thought damn it. Gotta change my battery? I just changed it last year!
I think he does it on purpose, like it's his "signature" so he'll be recognized
JP Till you ever heard of sensory adaptation?
At least there is a battery in it low or not :-)
Lol i thought it was my smoke alarm
The two best hosts
Every minute listening to Adam resulted in more brain cells gone...
Indeed. What an idiot.
does anyone else think that Adam wasn't really an atheist but more of a theist fishing for believes he thought atheist hold
did anyone notice that he cleaned write papers and be college educated but then Matt had to explain to him how science work
frankos rooni ?? trousers
Does anyone else think Justin should put the S on 'ATHEISTS'?!
FOR BELIEFFFFS HE THOUGHT ATHEISTSSSSSS HOLD.
Cleaned write papers? How science workSSSSS! Damn
I think Adam just called to hear himself talk on TV.
Joseph was in a bar with his friends Matthew and Luke. They were concerned, because Joseph looked worried. "What ails thee Joe ? You look downcast." Enquired Matthew sympathetically.
"My girlfriend, Mary, says she is with child ! " replied Joseph, "and her father is gonna kill me ! "
So the three friends mulled over this tragic news, then Luke offered a solution.
"Why don't you say that she was visited by a man in white apparel ? "
"You mean the milkman ?" said Joseph. "No, don't be daft Joe. The Angel of the Lord, of course."
But Joe was sceptical, "He'll never believe that nonsense". Matthew said, "Trust me, he will ! "
He did. And that's how it all began. Honest.
Wow, the true story of Christmas is so beautiful, especially the way you tell it. Didn't Jesus have the mange, or something like that?
@@jameswest8280
I want a time machine for Christmas so I could go back and find out what really happened.
@@tedgrant2 here's how to do it. Bury a time capsule containing a note that gives the exact date and time you're burying it. Tell them, if they have a time machine, to travel back to the date and time in the note. Thousands of years in the future, when the note is discovered, they will be able set their time machine to rendezvous with you while you're standing there waiting, you shouldn't have to wait long. Then they can take you to any time period you desire. Let me know how it goes.
@@jameswest8280
Ok, I'll do it.
Now.
Wow, as soon as I buried it, an amazing squid-like creature appeared in a red machine.
See you later (or sooner).
@@tedgrant2 BRB, I have something to attend to. Let's meet up at Charles VII coronation and maybe do lunch afterwards.
I suspect Adam is actually a theist, claiming to be an atheist. Dude can't articulate 1 coherent thought in line with what atheists often believe and asks some really dumb questions i commonly hear from theists!
Jesus Christ does Adam ramble -_-.
you took the words right out of my mouth! I was just about to post the same thing
I think Adam is a Christian pretending to be a an atheist.
@@imacrapface2-781 yeah. If Adam's an atheist, I'm a pineapple.
John is hopelessly thick.
Jeff ," We don't have to skulk around town avoiding angry Christians", I had to laugh out low on that one.
Adam is the most theistic sounding atheist I've ever heard... 😂
If Adam never calls in again he probably died in a house fire.
I love the Matt and Jeff combo!
" we don't care " , years later , never gets old.
Disbelief is not a belief, just like "off" isn't a TV station.
"a lack of belief in deities makes me religious in much the same way my lack of playing sports makes me an athlete"
BRILLIANT! please give me permission to use this....
I am a linguist and word usage is important to me. No one believes in everything that someone else does. I just accept that, I didn't know others would not. I didn't realize that Criteria=Ideas in so many people. Not just SpaceFrawg, many others. Smart SpaceFrawg hung in there long enough to get confusion sorted out!
God, listening to Adam is like flossing my goddamn ears with sandpaper.
Great show. Thank you for your clarity and willingness to share your thoughts
I love being able to comment. They need to bring back being able to comment. It is what makes CZcams great!!! Jeff Dee is awesome. This is a powerhouse duo.
i really enjoy your show...:) I wish I could watch you guys live :(
anyone else go a check their smoke alarms? Damn it!
This show will go down in history as an important step in the right direction.
Just like Galileo, Darwin and Popeye.
In about 5 days, this video will be 10 years old.
YES! Dee and Dilahunty, my two favorite hosts... Ok I'll go ahead and watch it now...
Jeff is magnificent. I bet he's a brutal DM.
guys, please bring back timestamps if possible on your newer clips as well! this is brilliant for skipping calls you already saw!
I've learned so much from this !!!!
Kevin is so brilliantly British it's awesome (I'm British, I get where he's coming from)..."Sometimes I watch religious TV to get the blood pressure up when I'm feeling down."It's SO British...."I'm not feeling great so I'm going to watch something that annoys me, that'll cheer me up!"
Yeah but he does ramble on a bit - look at the bored irritation on Matts face when Kevin is ranting.
Love Matt and Jeff together. Dynamic Duo
Better intro than current one
i like hout you have the time stamps in the description, thanks a ton
A lot of rambling callers in this one. A lot of talking over Matt and Jeff. A lot of talking in circles.
+Timothy Edgar So...more like the good old shows then?
Next week , John will present a list of 50,000 people who can prove the Earth is flat. Can't wait.
This show is so valuable!
These guys are awesome. Keep up the good work!
Hillary Quiroz If everyone learns to think logically and critically, and they learn to apply that skill to everything, religion will be eliminated automatically. "Eliminating" does not mean force, or legal measures. It's like saying that educating everyone will eliminate ignorance. If everyone has good knowledge, no one will be ignorant. It's the same concept.
Education doesn't eliminate the possibility that gods do exist. Education just helps us to stop taking claims that gods do not exist or exist seriously without due evidence or facts.
That's why sceptics don't make god claims, like atheists and theists do. Sceptics are generally educated, and search for answers, not take atheists or theists word for it on faith alone.
Jan Hald
Atheists (the vast majority of them) are skeptics (and know how to spell it). We make no claims about gods except that we don't accept any god claims as truth. Some, like myself, will go a step further and say that certain religions are clearly untrue. And some (myself also included) will say that in the same way that I would feel comfortable saying that leprechauns don't exist, I will say that generally of gods. However, the word god is thrown around so loosely, that one cannot say that it doesn't exist, because the word barely means anything. There are deistic god claims, and pantheistic god claims, and religious god claims, and polytheistic god claims and they can't be falsified, so are not worthy of consideration. However, if it is not unreasonable to say that they are no pixies, and no monsters who come out through childrens' closets at night, and no reptilian aliens running the government, it would be intellectually dishonest not to group the concept of god in with those other fantasies and say it is not real, as long as one is willing to accept evidence to the contrary if such is ever found.
Pat Doyle I've never met a true sceptic who is an atheist.
I've met plenty of pseudosceptics who are atheists though, and you most likely are one of these.
I just think your religious beliefs and personal opinions of atheism are not based on any scientific reasoning, or even any valid logical reasoning for that matter.
I imagine you are one of these pseudosceptical atheists who quotes unicorns and pixies, as equivocation fallacies to preach your new atheist gospel.
Give us true sceptics something more substantial than pixies please, we enjoy hard empirical evidence, not new atheist fairytales. If I want to hear atheist fairytales, I'll read a Dawkins book :)
But do go ahead, surprise me with some good facts to prove that gods do not exist.
Jan Hald
I never said, as an absolute, that no gods exist. However, if you understood logic (which you clearly don't) you would understand that when the emotional baggage of religious culture is removed, ALL supernatural claims stand and fall based on evidence. So comparisons to fairies or leprechauns are legitimate, in that they are supernatural beings, once widely thought to exist in certain cultures, and still thought by a few today to exist, but there is no good evidence for them. Just like every god claim every made.
However since you are not a skeptic, but are instead a "sceptic" this makes sense, because your reasoning comes right from the sceptic tank.
Pat Doyle So you believe gods may exist :)
I understand logic alright. Thanks for your concern though, it was touching.
What troubles me know is what scientific evidence you base your belief that gods may exist on?
As I'm a sceptic I like people like you to back up their beliefs with some hard peer reviewed empirical scientific data.
Your supernatural beliefs need some backing up it seems.
So please tell me what evidence you base your belief that gods may exist on?
GO GO GO!
Sartre's best quote was, "Hell is other people."
Jeff Dee is the Clint Eastwood of atheism
"Go ahead, make my day".
If I had to choose between listening to Adam talk for an hour straight or piercing my eardrums, I would choose the latter.
Please don't do that, he is not worth it.
@@albergan3174 Supergluing Adam’s lips together would be better ;)
Did Adam say all Iraqis are evil murderers? How does he know that? Oh right, his Christian Preacher told him.
This caller has a very hard time getting out a sentence without repeating words."I think-think-think this or that. I mean I mean-I mean" on and on. Slow down man and put a sentence together even if you have to write it down. I apologize if the caller has a speech impediment such as stuttering that he can't help and I am not making fun of him but it would be nice if he could utter a sentence and say every word only once.
I love Jeff Dee's facial expressions during the first caller. lol.
I want an incredulous Jeff mask for Halloween.
Adam, the babbling rambler.
Watching Matt slowly melt down getting interrupted and trying so had to be nice and not use the hold button is like watching a bomb timer get slower as it gets closer to one. It's maddening to watch, so he's gotta be seriously in control of his frustration. I would have hung up like 30 seconds in...
Dealing with these people, I imagine Matt goes home with extreme headaches on a regular basis.
Thanks for upload
i love when these two hosts are on
Okay, I'm 13 and an atheist. Around the age 9 I started really studying the bible. All of it felt like the same bedtime stories Mom read at night. My family is baptist christian, but my parents are more laid back. I just think religion is another way to tell people to shutup.
(Ex.) Kid: "Mommy, where do we come from?" Mom: "God. Now hush."
This show has helped me very, very much. It's certainly not a vain exercise.
I just started watching and they are amazing :D
I love that you bring up "non scheduled theology" (Lenny Bruce said that)
Jeff is like me. Firebrand.
I tuned out about 2 minutes into Adam's incoherent babble. Can someone tell me what the actual fuck he was trying to say?
Props from New Zealand! :D

the Terminator returning after so many years to protect John Connor must be my favorite.

I agree with Matt , i'd never heard of Col R.G Ingersol until he mentioned him , now i can't get enough ! , he was just so ahead of his time , his eulogy to his brother is one of the most moving tributes that i've ever heard and that anybody could ever wish to receive ! , what you do and leave is very important .
It's clear that the callers can't hear the hosts while the callers themselves are talking. When are they going to fix this it's so annoying
The callers have a hearing or more likely a listening problem.
is it just me or that guy's t-shirt logo look like a Halloween pumpkin?
Jeff and Matt: My favorite hosts :D
Uh oh, Jeff Dee AND Matt Dillahunty?? Any theists are going to get slammed... Let's see how this goes...
+DontStealMyFish Ironically it's an Atheist who's the most annoying
In what way are atheists annoying? Did they push anything down your throat with the threat of he'll? Did they pass out collection plates? Did they bother you with their constant bombardment of bible verses? What about Christians? How many TV, DVD, podcasts, churches, Jesus camps, radio shows do they have? Who's bothering who?
slumberzzzz If you are talking to me I meant one particular Atheist in this show...I'm an Atheist so you didn't need the rant, which I totally agree with btw..
I agree with slumberzzz and I would add "if you don't want to get slammed be prepared or don't call in" which seems pretty straight forward to me
ZaPaTiStA was referring to Adam, the claims-to-be-atheist-but-thinks-religion-gives-morals Atheist.
Ah, yes. Before they took down commenting. A darker time indeed.
I like the comments, they stopped them to increase traffic to their site, it's a nonprofit so they gotta grab it where they can
Atheist experience has been a very informative show; it is one of few Intellectual shows that have forced me to think about my religious views and led me to help me get out of theism by having me confront my views.
Atheist experience is really Philosophical, especially analytical Philosophically, so I think the show is very useful and brings about change.
Just started watching this and yay, crazy Egypt dude is back!
If we develop sufficiently intelligent AI-s, Christians would try to convert them xD
djole94hns There's already preacher robots (thouh obviously it's pre-programmed).
All things considered, an AI capable of learning and rational thought would only be capable of staying a Christians if it were infected with a computer virus or intentionally programmed not to question it.
djole94hns Well we could legitimately claim to be its Creator. So to it, an intelligence having a creator might be acceptable. But describing our supposed creator...to our creation...to paraphrase Barnum, "This way to the Regress >>>"
Damian Freeman Yeah, how can you tell the difference between the robot and non-robot preachers?
+djole94hns We could make the robot only accept visual evidence. xD
Then it won't ever accept a God.
+Estragon17 Non-robot ones are creepy.

John still needs to change his brain battery because that chirping sounded like my smoke alarm again.
What a fitting theme song. Brilliant.
John sounds like he went to a C or U that’s been H B. You know it as well as I do, whether or not you’d like to admit it.
And I guarantee that the people in his church think he’s a genius.
