- Today is the birthday of Matt Braly, so I figured I'd make him something special! Let's go over the first season of Amphibia in ten words or less! Complete with my top 3 favorites and least favorites! Love the show as a whole, but a little critique never hurts. Plus I can't wait for Amphibia Season 2!

Can we mention Mayor Toadstools character development? He goes from being a money embezzling crooked mayor to...ok he still embezzles money, but he cares for the residents of Wartwood, even going so far as to carry some of the older and disabled frogs out of the crumbling Toad Tower. He even shows Anne respect by admitting that she deserves to be frog of the year at the end of the episode.
Wow someone actually notices, but for real he had great character development
but he says he's only carrying them because he said he needed people to embezzle money from, still though.
It feels kinda rushed
Now he embezzles money FOR the residents of Wartwood
The "Wally And Anne" Episode made me love Wally. I hope we see him more in the future, and not just for random one off lines.

"Well what's wrong with being me..?" That line made me like and sympathize with Wally a lot. Also with what he did at the Toad Tower too.
Retrospectively, since Wallys actually rich, I can imagine in Hop Popular, Wally actually was the one who donated the most to the new stand.
Probably was an anonymous “donate what you can” deal, so nobody found out, but you can bet the effort wouldn’t have succeeded without him.

Sasha is the best character in this show! She's not a one dimensional bully character, but someone who genuinely cares for Anne. Her crowning moment of awesome was sacrificing herself for Anne near the end and I can't wait to see more of her. And I hope future shows makes characters like Sasha.

Sasha's not my favorite (I think Sprig might be personally)- but she's DEFINATELY up there. Same thing with Captain Grimes- I would gladly watch a short series of mini episodes showing there antics. I genuinely am interested in how she and Anne will be at the end of the series.
The "Reunion" episode to me was pretty dark at the end. Sasha willing to commit suicide ( as Sasha while letting didn't know she was going to be caught) after realizing how she treated Anne is evident of much greater weight to how she treated her in the past. Or maybe I'm reading too much into this...

The shows definitely gotten darker
What i like about these episodes is that sometimes, they can be a unique twist on plot threads we commonly see in other cartoons. For example, every time Anne make mistakes and caused mischief in episodes, it's because she did stuff like that all the time with Sasha. So these plot threads contribute more to the story than you may realize. Now that Anne is around true friends who showed her the harm and consequences of those actions, it makes her reunion with Sasha all the more heartbreaking, thinking back at all the things she's learned and how she grew as a character, making her realize just how much Sasha was a toxic friend.
Very well said. That's one of the reasons why I like this show too. Just couldn't find the right way to put it.
I think a lot of people put aside the fact Sasha did not 100% “attempt suicide”, she was also doing it to save Anne and the frogs from falling to- just a noteworthy motive to her letting go, though I do feel that was the moment she realized how she had been treating Anne to and it deeply hurt her, and that Anne would be better off without her dead or alive
I really hope Maddie gets more screen time next season, I think she only spoke in 3 episodes.

@@chiefbeef6251 I would not go as far as to call amphibia better than toh, remember, owl house only had one season so far and amphibia had a good bit more. The shows are both very good and both comparably good, although I peronally am more into amphibia rn. But toh blew up online and amphibia hasn't... yet. It all comes with time... and canonical gayness

I surprisingly liked this show, even though I looked forward to Owl House a lot more. I liked a lot of the episodes you liked, and one of my personal least favorites is the one where Hop Pop used a mind control potion on his family just so he can get to working on his boat. It proves that if you get your children to do want you want them to do by brainwashing them, you're a terrible parent...

While I didn't binge watch the series. I don't do that because of my ADD, I am watching each episode weekly. I just love the animation style and the writing of Amphibia.

I think the reason why the “burst of popularity” came from the writers writing the episodes out of order. This is mentioned in It’s Rebecca Rose’s interview with Matt Braly and Dana Terrace, it’s better explained there.

When you said children of the spore is Fungus Among Us done right, as someone who has Phineas and Ferb as my favorite Disney show and Milo Murphy’s Law at third (second is Gravity Falls), my heart cracked a little
i love this show so much and im glad i found this video because i havent seen enough people talking about this show, i feel like it deserves so much much MUCH more attention then it gets. like everyone on the planet should watch this show
I think I need to re-visit this when I get some free time.
I've got a headcannon that some of the episodes that seem out of order literally are. They took place during the days when Anne and Sprig were trying to share his room and were being skipped over to not mess up the flow of the episode and that's why character development that should have been there wasn't.

I thought of something that could have made Planter's last stand a lot more interesting. What if Anne didn't lie and the episode is more about the hop pop going insane in what he assumes it can do.
Long story short I had a BAD vitamin D deficiency, I mean to the point that I had constant migraines and slept nearly twenty for seven. Not only that but the way I clogged the machines when donating plasma would suggest that I was at a high risk of a heart attack. For the record, I am only twenty one and this all happened. What if that super juice she told him to sell is just based on a story like that so she is selling them like vitamins. I mean if I went to a medieval society and told them this story they might assume that I took something magic that saved me from dying so hop pop would more realistically go over the top if he heard something like that about fruit juice.

@@Ropoid Gravitz falls is a masterpiece in comic-mistery cartoons, nothing can beat it, you can just like a show more then it. And Adventure time is a show that grows with time, teach about morals and deep stories with emotion, it has mistakes on other compartments, but it is a perfection when it comes to "lore".
I appreciate your focus on the characters and comedy that really shines in Amphibia. A lot of reviewers tend to punish season 1 for being episodic even though that's exactly what season 1 (and most of Amphibia) wants to be.
I just rapped up season 1 of Amphibia and I had a blast. Can’t wait to watch seasons 2 and 3.

I started watching this show about 2 weeks ago and holy damn, this is really good! I was already sold enough with S1 even with some of the repetitive slice-of-life formulaic episodes and themes, but man S2 is really getting up there with the emotion, action and excitement! I just got done with "Friend or Frobo" and it just makes me love Polly even more! Still gotta get through S2 and then finish the show in the final season so don't anyone spoil it for me! It's hard enough having already seen some spoiler visuals out of the corner of my eye when searching online!

I personally think reunion is pretty overrated. don’t get me wrong it’s an amazing episode and the ending is perfect but I think people give it too much attention and don’t give other amazing episodes attention but I do get why a lot of people give it a lot of attention

Honestly, aside from reunion, my favorite episode of Season 1 was probably Toad Tax. It does everything a good twenty minute episode could do, but it manages to perfectly fit it in Amphibia's signature 10 minute standard.
Also, *0:25* Ahh yes, aibihpmA, my favorite show! I know, you had to invert the episodes for *copyright reasons,* but it's still hilarious.
I thought prison break was better honestly. Both are fantastic episodes though.

I also hate cracking Mrs. Croaker. It made sit through it thinking, "Can I watch Prison Break now?" My main problem with the epiosde is that it's basically a much worse 'Nobody Doesn't Like TJ' from Recess. When the show started, it felt like it was just redoing overused plots. I am glad this show found its identity

Okay, but after the whole series, I appreciate Mrs. Croaker's episode more. It tells us some important things about her for later on. And goddamnit, Reunion and Prison Break were perfect episodes... at least, by the standards of Season 1. And the moral of that Croaker episode isn't to not judge people... it's that people ARE GOING to judge you no matter what you do, so I think it doesn't clash as much as it seems with the "don't judge people" moral.

I personally think reunion is a amazing episode but i think other episodes are better than it.
Wally and Anne- gotta agree with you there. I wanted to be friends with the guy at that point, and I'm not able to live in amphibia.
I will say I didn't mind Planters last stand just because it started an arc for Hop Pop and I consider Hop Popular to be one of the best episodes of Season 1- just because of how it shows the poor guy standing up for what he genuinely believes in.
I also find it kind of connected to him being a failed actor: What is acting, if not lying, after all? So he probably could have either been too honest to be a proper believable actor, or he probably gets too carried away into his deal.
Also, given what we find out about Wally in Season 2: I kind of imagine him secretly donating a lot more then you'd think to getting the Planters stand back. ;)

@@zoom27dragonsnake80 I think Flood Sweat and Tears and Taking Charge are ok, just kind of normal in terms of tier. Hop Popular works best paired with Plantars Last Stand, since the two of them are bookends to that arc.

That song has been associated with deep grief, in my mind. To me, it's always been about dealing with grief and accepting death

Contagi-Anne is great but not the best in my opinion.
I think the biggest problem with Cracking Mrs. Croaker is that it tries to tell us that not everyone is going to like you, which is a good moral, but the execution was bad. If someone doesn't like you and is actually rude to you simply because they don't like the way you look, that is not fair. I think it would've been slightly better if Mrs. Croaker actually acknowledged Sprig, and just didn't make an attempt to be friends with him, but she was friends with Anne, Polly, and the other townspeople. This way it wouldn't just be Mrs. Croaker being mean for no reason, but rather Mrs. Croaker not being all buddy-buddy with him for no reason. I don't think this would've completely saved the episode, but it would've made Mrs. Croaker slightly better here in my eyes.
Also, to add on to what you said about Sprig not being portrayed as a helpful town favorite, literally in the first episode, Sprig told Anne about how he didn't have any friends because he was considered the weird social outcast character. I think polly shouldn't have said Sprig has always been something of a town favorite, but rather, Sprig has become something of a town favorite, at least that way we could've at least assumed that something happened off-screen that made the townspeople like Sprig more, again, this wouldn't make the episode exponentially better, but it would be better than them just outright ignoring what was established in earlier episodes.

Why only those two episodes you gave your opinion on
Episode 1-2 Good introduction to the world and characters. I'm really not a fan of eastern Isekai when the main lead doesn't try to go back home. thankfully that is what Anna wants to do from the very beginning.
Episode 3-4 We start to see the flews of reckless attitude, its entertaining and important characterization.
Episode 5-6 Pizza was fun. Tripping balls was hilarious. My personal favourite.
Episode 7-8 The world of anna mixed oddly with amphibia CATBUG? Also, a supercharged phone is one way to fix a plot hole.
Episode 9-10 even horses have a history that was a surprising story beat. Oh, and politics are always simpler in fiction... sigh.
Episode 11-12 Mix up the character focuses to stale for time, I understand.
Episode 13-14 Honestly I think sprig should go with Meggie but I know I'm in the minority. also, the camping episode was almost a Halloween episode.
Episode 15-16 The covid really is everywhere! Oh and they threatened to make this gravity falls, why didn't they?
Episode 17-18 More anna background culture and if hop pop lost his stand WHY is he still growing crops?
Episode 19-20 More elements of the world come to the small town. Then we get to see how the alpha of the three girls survived the savage land.
Episode 21-22 I forgot the bug hog existed. I'm glad hop pop got a girlfriend.
Episode 23-24 I find it amazing that these two episodes are referenced over and over again throughout the series.
Episode 25-26 Good monster of the week episodes the anna's bushy hair joke was perfect.
Episode 27-28 is less entertaining without the whole town to talk to. Also by the numbers respect your elders' lesson BLAH.
Episode 29-30 We Need more one-off episodes without the main cast.
Episode 31-32 Romance and LORE I'm all for it!
Episode 33-34 This episode has Meggie so instant 10/10 for me.
Episode 35-36 I was really HOPING that el frogo would be a new addition to the cast. oh well
Episode 37-38 The is just the last of us but better and I love it ....suck it, Druckman.
