  • Most people who play Pokemon game just spam their Pokemon's strongest moves and pay little to no attention to Status moves. What if we did the contrary and played through Pokemon Heart Gold with ONLY Status moves and never used any Physical or Special moves?

      how about a full on pacifist challenge, where you are not even allowed to attack the opponent.
      rules:
      no moves, only trowing pokeballs at the enemy,
      {you are allowed to use a cheat that gives 999 "cherish&Heal/safari/luxury balls" }each meaning you have about 4000 rounds before you have to re-enable the cheat
      {those pokeballs are not allowed to be used when catching wild ones} {since these pokeballs are useless and have no "extra" effect they are perfect for the challenge} when compared to the normal pokeballs
      otherwise this challenge is impossible
      you must beat the opponent by having him run out of PP and use struggle. so you must buy potions yourself. these are not allowed to be cheated in.
      {for easier pacifist}
      you are allowed to have 1 full stack of oran berries [999]. {these are the worst healing items} and are only to be used in a emergency at the start of the game, till you are able to hold your own when battling pokemons,
      {so stock up on that sweet metapod EXP}
      speed hacks are allowed

    What an awesome challenge. This caused you to play pokemon the way it was intended. You caught and trained pokemon to help out in specific fights and had to really use your whole team to succeed. Normally you just need to select the move that is super effective against your opponent and once you faint your opponent's pokemon, get a free switch to whatever pokemon can repeat this against the next pokemon.
    What you stated at about 23:30 is so correct. Gamefreak doesn't need to keep implementing gimmicks like Dynamaxing to make pokemon interesting. They need to embrace the deep systems already in place.

      The thing is that video games have a target audience. Pokemon's target audience is children.
      You know what appeals to children? "And you can make your Pokemon grow MASSIVE and do SUPER COOL SPECIAL MOVES!!!"
      You know what doesn't appeal to children? "And if you look up the table, and compare these two rows, you can see these two moves interact in a really interesting way that might really boost some Pokemon's usefulness!"
      If you want deep systems to be enhanced and focused on, you're going to have to move on to Pokemon alternatives. Or at least support them and help build a market where they are financially viable.

Ninetales' Will-O-Wisp is both DoT and halves attack, making Walling most Poison/Steel Types child's play, and removes the reliance on Toxic Spikes vs Flying Types, but Vulpix is Version-Exclusive and the only other options require either the Safari Zone (Shuppet, Duskull), Breeding (Gastly, Koffing) or TM61 (which isn't available until the Battle Frontier).
