  • Made this for my aspiring artist son. Used walnut and oak for the box, and cherry, walnut and maple with bamboo pegs for the inlay. All the hardware was made from brass. Thanks for watching!

Amazing work as always. Those little "bar clamps" are those traditional Japanese style clamps? I've never really seen anything like that here in the States. They may be common clamp for a different hobby/vocation, but I've never really seen them used with woodworking.

I think so, when my father was still alive he would always by a couple to bring home when he came to visit me. And, I've never seen them in the States. Really handy though for small boxes, etc.

Wonderfully done!! How did you glue the inlay pieces side by side like that?

Thank you! It's a little hard to see in the edit, but if you watch the first part where I'm making the inlay you'll see I lay alternating pieces of cherry and walnut in a line. I'm actually gluing them to a strip of maple that's underneath. I then put the weight on the top to let them dry, plane the blocks to get them even and then glue another strip of maple to the other side.
