You are the most delightful, weird and interesting speaker building CZcamsr I’ve seen. How you balance taking the technical and craft of your builds serious work while not taking yourself too seriously is refreshing!
Thanks for the input!! And for watching!
God tier! Your massive recording and editing wasn't a waste it made the video engaging! Very nice speakers!!
Thanks for the feedback! And thanks for watching.
Your closet looks like my dream man - cave: everywhere drivers, amplifiers, stuff to build and so many possible projects
Hahaha. That’s right! I want more!
Your woodworking and metalwork skills are simply fabulous, my friend! 🖤✨
Thank you! I’m glad you liked it.
@@sonnoradesign I’m a newbie. I’m working on a set of Swan 3.1 diy’s. Love the way you accented the speaker cabinets with the plywood sides. Is there any reason I’m not seeing to not use solid walnut for a similar look? Thanks for taking the time
Mate, this was informative, entertaining, educational, funny, helpful, discombobulating, this is the content that I was looking for! The perfect dosage of infos and length
Hey there my friend! Thanks for the input!! Really discombobulating! Haha
You are a very funny guy, you make the geeky side of speaker design and building fun and entertaining. Keep these videos coming! I’m learning a lot from your videos and will be building my own soon
That’s great to hear man! I’ll keep it coming!!
Best diy speaker build video on the internet!!
Thanks For the input Derek! Let’s keep them coming!
I am very much interested to learn about this hobby. But for me, you’re the most entertaining but also informative youtuber on this hobby. Thanks for making my day.
Thanks Jun. I hope you have as much fun as I do!!!
Excellent video . This project is superb . These boxes are as solid as a rock !!! Next time you come to Brazil bring me a pair of those beautiful speakers . Congrats Bernardo !!!
Thanks Man. 100 lbs for both of them but I’ll bring it!
I use the 180's in my vehicle, they sound spectacular in automotive applications!!
Cool. I’ve seen people using the smaller ones like the rs-100s as mids. That’s great!!
What a great video. Thank you for taking the time, I learned a lot while laughing!
Thanks John! That’s great.
Amazing video. I am gonna keep coming back for more.
Yeah!! I’ll keep making more!! Thanks Zubair!’
Just found you. Excellent work and great presentation. Oh yeah, amazing curve on a DIY speaker that doesn't break the bank!
I’m glad you liked it!! Thanks for watching!!!
Hello, and thank you for the video. I just purchased the Parts-Express Samba kit with Baffle only. It uses the paper version RS-180-4 and same tweeter, and I have to build the box. First time for me, so I will use your video for tips and also convert their design to a front slot port because it looks Elegante!
It’s gonna look so Elegante!! Enjoy John. Thanks for watching and let me know if you have questions during the build.
Another awesome video!! Great looking speakers!!! He is like a mad genius!
Thanks Bro!!
Thank You for this lesson! The best men I've seen on yt.
Hey there Nick! Thanks a lot my friend!
Wow... Good reference speaker!!
👏👏👏👏👏...
Thanks for watching!!
Good job! Beautiful boxes! 😍
The joy after the mission is 🎊
Thanks for watching!
You make it a joy to watch you design and build. I’m not good with crossovers. The only thing I have done is putting a cap on the tweeter. I’ve been out of it for awhile but I have plenty of drivers to play with. I will hopefully building soon when I get my woodshop sorted. Keep up the fun work I just subscribed.
Hey Brian! Thanks a lot my friend. I’m working on a series of crossover videos for that reason. You are not the only one!
From Argentina!!! I just made the same speakers following your indications. Sounds great even using a very cheap Sanyo speakers!!!
Great work and very nice finishing!
Thanks!!
Demais brother! Vídeos estão profissional e engraçado! Arrebentou!
Valeu! Obrigado por assistir!
Subscribed on personality alone....and then there's the build .. 👍
Thanks for watching Jim!
"Elegante" é pouco... Foda demais!!!
Woohoo! Valeu
They are a set of beasts.... sounds amazing bro...😀
They do sound good! I loved this built!! Thanks for watching my friend!!
I'm really excited to start a build with some of the reference series speakers but I may use a different tweeter. This build is great! nice work, nice video.
Thanks Capra!!
Nice dance.. Awesome speaker build

Thanks my friend, I appreciate your support!
Haha you're videos are class dude! Keep it up. Great craftsmanship 🙌
Thanks for watching James!
Ive used these Dayton reference 7 for several builds but the paper cone version sounds so much better. I am getting a few more of the paper cone to play with.
Good to know. I had those drivers at home though but I wanna try the paper one sometime! Thanks!
@@sonnoradesign Check out the SEAS Prestige paper cone drivers. SB Acoustics too
How’s the low end on the paper cone in comparison to the regular reference cone? You find much of a difference?
@@billymurphy3 they sound very natural and warmer than the aluminum cone. smoother in the mid. Surprising bass response and very fast.
Hey Soniclab, can i get in touch wih you? I need a crossover design for a too way with RS paper cone...
Damn! Those look sharp.
Thanks for watching Mark!!
Ja, ja. Me gusto mucho el video y la bailada al final. Eres todo un artista! Great job on the speaker build.
Hey Daniel! Thank you my friend.
Great video and the "reference" drivers are cool .
They are. And sound cool! Thanks for watching!
Alson , I would like to add, that your woodworking ,and fabrication talents are amazing , 1st video of yours, for me and I am impressed enough to subscribe , I have a good feeling that you have alot that I can learn from !
Hey Mike! Thank you my friend! Hope you enjoy next videos!!
Great info, great content…glad I found your channel. How about a full home theater speaker build, center, fronts, and surrounds?
Hey Brad. Thanks for watching! Yes maybe in the near future! Thanks for the suggestion.
Just came across your channel, Love your personality, Sir you've got a new subscriber!
Woohoo! Thanks Francisco.
Excellent work
Thanks for the input my friend!!!
Love your channel, glad your youtube channel is growing. Would you consider doing a video on woodworking and finishing tips?
Hey Toby. Thanks for watching! Let’s grow this thing together so I can make more tech videos! 😆 I will post more on wood, painting and finishing for sure.
I like your design very much
Thank you for watching!!
Love the design. Love the presentation. I will be using it for a build for a friend, but as a finishing touch, I am going to use black leather instead of paint (similar to Sonus Faber) and veneer the edges. One of my takeaways from this was the trick with the veneer that you used to make the cauls (why faff around planing an angle..)
It’s gonna look great! Good luck my friend!
Bernardo just came across you on the Tube , you are crazy cool . Luv your style , make more videos !!!
Thanks a lot for the input! I’ll keep posting.
Amazing work and video.
Thanks Felix! Good to hear.
@@sonnoradesign your very welcome.
These are just gorgeous speakers. Do they sound as good as they look? keep up the great work.
Hey there my friend! Thanks for watching. Yup, they sound pretty good and articulated. I’d like to have more bass and power, maybe a 2 woofer version would help.
Good choice of drive units. I've got the paper-coned version (RS180-4P) in the front doors of my car, along with RST-28A tweeters. Woofers are actively bandpass filtered between 80hz and 4KHz, tweeters are high-pass filtered at 4 KHz. Sounds awesome with massive midbass. Aluminum dome tweeters are detailed without being harsh or fatigueing. There's no car audio marketed speakers that can come close for the price of these puppies.
I really liked those drivers. I’d add a second woofer if making this box again. Get more SPL and bass. The tweeters are really clean and articulated. Good choice.
One downside of the Dayton tweeters is that the plastic holding the spade connector deforms very quickly when soldering cable directly. They are not easy to tin without the plastic deforming.
They really look great, I used some of those rs180-4 in a recent build had a lot of trouble with the xover keeping the nasty metal cone ringing(from 4~7Khz), had to cross them very low(1.65Khz) 3rd order ended up needing a tweeter that could handle going that low(without spending $500+), ended up using a Wavecore TWO30W11-1(Fs 410Hz) it seemed to model better than the RST28F-4.
But yours turned out to measure great... wished I used them dayton tweeters now would've saved me a lot of phaffing about and some coin too as the Wavecores were double the daytons in price and by the looks a few less xover parts! The boombox I put them in is pretty beefy with a Dayton RS265HF-4 sub between them gets pretty loud only using one of those Dayton DTA2.1BT2 amps(50w x2/100w x1).
@YuccaReptiles I tried 2nd order but the ringing was still measurable and with the large dia tweeter being strong at these frequencys it boosted them even more so I upped the order which tamed it without having to use a notch filter
@YuccaReptiles The acoustic response is probably 4th order, when factoring driver roll-off.
Congrats man! That’s a great build. I wanna try the Wavecores sometime. You are right there is the high cone break up noise and I had to do the same. Go lower on the crossover point. It worked well. I still wanna work a little bit more on the crossovers on another video. I just tried to keep it simple with less components.
Thanks for the info!
Hi! this is pure gold. im from a country wich is terrible for buy anything from outside (Argentina), and i not talking about drivers or amplifiers, i just meaning buy a manual for construction of enclosures, so the theorical materials found in internet is absolutly diamonds for us who love good sound.. and a part of the same, the drivers and amplifiers, we have only two ways: Car audio drivers(nasty) or just wait 2 or 3 months an aliexpress buy (the only online global shop allowed with a internal tax fee of 110%!!), so in the most cases we delight in what is seen behind the horizon.
best regards and thank you. sorry for my bad english i just learned from movies ajajaja
Hey my friend! I totally get it. I’m from Brasil originally and we have a similar problem there with imported products. I remember working on car audio a lot when I was younger.
Thank you for your videos, they are awesome! The picture, lighting are top notch, but please get a Lavalier mic.
I know right? I’ll check that mic. Thanks for the tip!
That video was very 'Elegante' my friend! :-) Great job!
Haha! Thanks for watching!
Elegant video man!

Thanks for watching Nidhins!! 😎
you are marvellous
Thanks for watching Tony!
These look great and pair well with your amp/tube preamp build.. I'll be looking to build these but want them on stands with record storage underneath (like the wharfedale linton)- any suggestions on how best to do the stands?
Keep it up love the vids
Hello Daniel. Thanks for watching! Those speakers are big and heavy. Keep that in mind and if you wanna add 13-14 inches under it might be too high. One option would be to make a smaller box, closer to a regular size bookshelf or reverse the tweeter with the woofer which looks good to me. Another option is to extend the side pieces all the way down and use it as record storage and stand.
since you like flat easy to use drivers, try the tang band w4 1720, and w5 1721, along with the w4-1052sd for super small bookshelf builds.
That’s right. I’ve used tang band before. The W-5’s. I like them. Probably gonna use them soon.
Great design. Wondering if port aught to be a bit higher up...
Hey Chinmey. Maybe. Getta do some measurements but if it’s turned to the back it would probably increase bass response in room.
@@sonnoradesignoh I like it on the front, I mean the port being a couple inches from the bottom might look nifty or if the sides extended lower maybe idunno six to ten inches. Just aesthetic ideas; unclear if it would sound better or not. Just less reflections off of floor or desk. Impressive video and build tho I wish I could buy them or trade you for a painting/ fine art artwork!
Haha! Right? You should make one pair!
do you still have
these?@@sonnoradesign
Oh yeah!!
@@chinmeysway
Fantastic
Thanks man!
I liked the personality you added in to your Video. I dont know if you are always like the portrayal in the video but it was friendly and entertaining. The boogy music a nice addition. The info i just soak like a sponge. I was mainly interested in your thoughts on the Reference drivers. Thanks for your efforts.
The Latin Jazz at the end was was that Pancho Sanchez? I was encouraged to go ahead and use the Reference drivers. Your cabinet design and work execution was excellent.
Hey Richard! Thanks for watching man!! I really appreciate it. Those drivers are pretty good. Clean and articulated highs. I wanted more bass though. I’d probably build something with 2 woofers next time.
You rock man and love your builds learning a lot from you 👍🏽🍺😎
That’s great to hear Jason! Thanks for the feedback!
All very good and well done on the build, the only minor criticism is when you described the Vas parameter you were relating it to the actual box size. As I understand it it represents a theoretical box that represents the behaviour of the cone suspension. I might be wrong as I’m not an expert but I wouldn’t want anyone to construct an enclosure to the Vas volume and waste time/money. But kudos to you on your build 🙏🙏
Thanks Ricardo! That’s right!!!
The dude is mental.
Haha! Ai ai ai.
I built a pair of “Modula MT” designed by John marsh in like 2006 and still use them as my main speakers.
Cool stuff!! Thanks my friend!
It's like the retired Italian mafia boss version of Mr. Rodgers , after tripping acid through the entire 60s and 70s , not a bad thing , just adds flavorful spiciness to the mix !!
Hahah!! Right?! Let’s do this!
Hey. I’m having a go at building speakers to yours. I do have a question. Why isn’t the tweeter in its own seperate section of the cabinet?
Hey Start. Thanks for watching! The tweeter is shielded, it doesn’t interfere with the woofer.
I loved you on SNL. You got tired of television and became a carpenter?
I love that shirt
Thanks man!
You’re so weird, I love it! Awesome video, new subscriber!
Hahah! Thanks Mike!!
Really entertaining video..like the combination of technical and investment advice maybe I should look into buying blessy shares.. thanks again for taking the time..
Hahah! Right!! Thanks for the feedback!!!
Hi there I have build a 2 way speaker with a mundorf tweeter and a 5" scanspeak and will now extend it to a bass box below with 2 x dayton 225 alu ( lower part of the Bordeaux speaker ) do you have any experience with this or suggestions to design? or should i just round the corners? I have an idea that i will make the sides 2 cm to high, to enclose the small 2 way speaker, to make it different and still not to advanced! love all you do btw, keep it up young man :)
Hey Janras! Thanks for watching! I haven’t worked with the 225’s yet. Have you tried to work on WinISD software to calculate the box? Maybe there is some info on Parts Express.
Complimenti dall'Italia
Grazie!!!
Great bro
Thanks bro!
Awesome build, thumbs up! Had to grit my teeth to make it all the way through, though.
Hahah!! Right Ole!!! Thanks for watching man. Appreciate it.
Very cool speakers. Question. Cane the box size be altered a bit if the volume stays the same?
Yes. Usually shape interfere on the results. Try not to make it an even square.
wooooowwww haha.. good work
Haha!! Right! Thanks for watching!
Very nice. Hey what's the clear coat you spray on before the primer? Do you only need one coat of it?
Thanks
It’s sanding sealer. I apply 3 thick coats and sand it down to seal the mdf. Then primer, paint and matte clear coat! Thanks for watching!
always beautiful works my friend! What do you use raw of the gray primer on MDF? What is the name of that transparent product that you then sandpaper? Thank you!
Thanks Giovanni! That’s sanding sealer to seal the MDF before primer.
Gloves are a bad idea around all of those tools. Nice speakers
That’s right! I know I shouldn’t be using it sometimes. Thanks for watching!
Oh yeah baby 🐥
Woohoo!!
Remind me of some KEF's from the 80s
I love KEF designs. Good looking speakers! Thanks for watching.
Awesome build....can you do video just on crossover parts selection please?
Hey Vic. Thanks for watching! Yes I’ve been working on crossover videos! Coming soon
Dry nice work sir, I have a few questions; 1) what mic are you using to check the curves ? 2) what software are you using to check the curves ? 3) what software are you using to design crossovers ? Love your channel
Thanks my friend!! 1-I’m using the Umik from Mini-DSP. 2-REW 3-I’m using XSim.
Wow you're really talented with woodworking! How long did it take you to learn all that?
Thanks! I started working on car audio in the 90’s. It’s been a while and I still have a lot to learn! I just love woodworking a lot!
Good vid. But would have been more informative if you could have provided info like what grit sandpaper used, how you got rid of edge seems on yhe front panel, primer used etc
Hey my friend! Thanks for the input. That’s good to know.
@@sonnoradesign welcome :)
This design appears to be an extremely cost effective offering that will blow away commercial offerings costing a whole lot more. I hope that people aren't put off by your antics and realize that some very serious design work is going into these projects which all seem to be "big bang for the buck"!. The series cross over type seems to minimize component cost and keep the overall project costs low You might want to look into the SB Acoustics drivers offered by Madisound. Great work.
Hey There! Thanks for watching. That’s right! Im using SB Acoustics on other builds. Really like the results.
Hi man, really enjoyed looking your video! Great job!!
I would like to make my Klipsch RF62 ref2 more "out of the ordinary" looking.
Before to see your video, I thought about making similar cabinets for the 2 woofers and take the Tweeter "out of the box", suspended between 2 lateral braces about 50cm higher, higher than the one you just built, and maybe replace the horn by a wooden one...
I was thinking about using the original baffles and crossovers...
Do you think this could kill the current sound quality or improve it?
Thanks in advance for your advice.
Please keep enjoy us 😉
Thanks for watching Stephane!
I wouldn’t change the box design or move the horns up. That would change how it sounds. I’m not familiar with those speakers but maybe you can work on better crossovers and internal materials; brackets, sound damping….
@@sonnoradesign but I like the sound but not a real fan of the look 😉
@@stephanevanrompaey5110 got it. Well, let’s make new ones?!
