What did the business owner or employee do wrong? I can't see it. None of this would have happened if the robber never decided to come into the store, and thief probably would have taken the money and run if the plaintiff hadn't thrown the bottle, so it was the plaintiff's choice that put himself in harms way. Nothing the business did caused him harm. However, from a moral viewpoint it probably would have been nice of the store to have offered the plaintiff something as a thank you for trying to protect their staff, or even started a gofundme page to help him raise the funds.
