  • mybeatbuddy.com/product/beatbu... Welcome back to ProGuitarShop and ToneReport.com. Today, we're keeping time with the BeatBuddy Mini. The BeatBuddy Mini is a much smaller version of the original BeatBuddy, the groundbreaking personal drummer pedal that gives you real-time control of a virtual drummer without all the headaches of dealing with a real one. The BeatBuddy Mini contains over 100 songs from 24 different genres, so it's not just geared towards rock musicians. The visual metronome makes it easy to stay in time with your personal drummer. A single footswitch and simple commands let you add fills, transitions, verse/chorus changes and the optional footswitch includes slick momentary switches for seamless control over many facets of the pedal, such as pausing and accents, while holding down footswitch accesses secondary functions such as Genre, Song or Tap Tempo. The BeatBuddy Mini takes control to the next level with its connectivity; players can connect it to an amp, headphones or even a set of PA speakers.

    I'm a bit confused about why this has an input? It's a drum machine that doesn't alter what it's playing based on the input, but only the controls, right? So not like the Trio, but more like a drum machine and a dry/wet control combined?

    • @kevgamble
      @kevgamble Před 8 lety

      +Arthur Hagen I would guess just for the convenience of being able to put it into an existing pedal chain so its output joins that of the guitar being sent to the amp. It doesn't have any headphone out, and is mono, so in most cases its audio would probably go where the guitar goes.

    • @sdmc222
      @sdmc222 Před 8 lety +1

      +Arthur Hagen I just bought one of these and I thought the same thing at first. I actually used it last week for a small cafe gig and it worked surprisingly well. If you use another pedal(s) the beatbuddy goes on the end. Works for me cause im playing an acoustic into a zoom multi-effect, then into the beatbuddy to the PA. But it would sound like chit through an electric guitar amp. Definitely only for PA/Keyboard amp/or acoustic guitar amp.

    Why produce a top-of-the-range main pedal and such a poor additional footswitch? If you are thinking of live performance in semi-loud situations the footswitch is fine. However, be warned, the switches make an awful noise. I would not take them into the studio for recording. Their tech man checked out my video and said that the level of noise was 'normal' for them. You can hear the clunk of the switch as well as the squeak of the spring, all amplified by the enclosure.

    It beats having a smart mouth too loud drummer and sorry drum kit that takes 2 hours, its own van and half the stage space to set up. I'm a bass player/drummer for last the six months doing both jobs with my full range bass cab with the original Beat Buddy. It sounds even better with bit of compression I use with it, too. In fact I bought 2 just in case one breaks. That's the future for the average troglodyte drummer who can't keep a beat anyway. Its 2 for the price of 1.5 with none of the hassels, to the highest bidder from now on.

  • @scootergreen3
    @scootergreen3 Před 7 lety +1

    Don't buy the Mini. I ordered it and tried it. I hate it. Not enough basic rock beats. To many jungle beats that most would never use. Intros are too long. I am a professional drummer, guitarist and singer. The mini is Not worth buying. A Pain to send back to although it is do-able and you will get your money back. Guitar sells them now so you can try the BeatBuddy out for free. But who knows it may work for you.

      What do you reccomend, i dont see alot of other options for guitarists who just want a drum beat pedal on there board.

    • @scootergreen3
      @scootergreen3 Před 7 lety

      I don't see many good options but the Beatbuddy (not the beatbuddy mini) might be good that's the bigger version but after seeing so many worthless and useless jungle beats on the mini I'm sure the Beatbuddy would have a bunch of worthless beats too. I believe there would be more good beats on there though. I saw yesterday that Guitar Center sells them. I'm surprised but that's good you can try it out before buying but it costs $250. through the company. Maybe Guitar Center will sell them cheaper. I have looked at every option and can't find one. I can't find any foot drums that I like or they are too expensive. I would like to try a Boss DR 880. You can see some pretty good demo videos and it has beats that you would really use but they didn't show too many. It says you can make your own beats in it hopefully as a loop but this thing costs $500. and it's still not a guitar type pedal. I think this is well worth the money if you can afford it. (I cannot right now) but it has I think a guitar compressor, and lots of effects that you would really user including amp modeling if I remember right. The reason I said worthless beats at the beginning is because I am a drummer and guitarist. I have played in a lot of rock and country bands and for the music I like you just don't use all those what I call jungle beats.

    • @scootergreen3
      @scootergreen3 Před 7 lety

      Yes, I did at Guitar Center a few months ago. I didn't like it because it sounds artificial. I mostly didn't like the bass that follows your guitar. It reminds me of a Lowery home organ with a rhythm section on it that 80 year olds play. Maybe because I play drums and bass and I look for a more authentic sound. But I think it does keep the beat and sounds decent and it follows your guitar well. I don't remember the drum sounds much but I remember the bass sounds. Try it you might like it and it may work well for you. We all hear things different. I know what you mean about when you get the money. I have to wait almost two weeks when I get paid to buy a Used DR. Boss 880. It is the only good sounding drum machine that I have heard but I haven't tried it out yet. I've only heard it on CZcams. You can get them Used for about $185. US dollars but that's a lot of money for me too. I am taking a chance buying it hoping I have enough for the rest of the month and hoping there's nothing wrong with it. Ha! I have researched about 30 drum machines and I haven't seen any good ones except the 880. I wish you luck. Write back if you have anymore questions.
