Thanks for the shoutout! I mainly meant that Vesper moment of Bond finding his Solace, was more compelling and heartfelt than the entirety of Quantum of Solace! I agree with it being more heartfelt than a lot of the Madeleine relationship though. So the quote isnt necessarily false! We'll discuss it more in our collab coming up!!!

I watched it twice, last Thursday and Friday. I told my girlfriend I wouldn’t watch it anymore in the theater. She’s only seen 5 films from across the series; Casino Royale was her only Craig film. She said it seems like it wants to be huge and daring. She enjoyed Jeffery Wright’s scenes and the Cuba stuff. She thought Rami was a little too light compared to the other villains she’s seen.
On a related note, I noticed a mother had taken her two boys to the Friday night showing. At the end of the film they were asking her why NTTD had the ending it did. She gave them the ol’ “I don’t know.” And ushered them out of the auditorium.

It starts off so well, great intro, great first act with Ana De Armas. But once she’s gone… it takes a major nosedive. An overstuffed and underdeveloped mess, great plot points are started and never explored, and certain characters Naomi and Saffin just fade into the background. I mean Paloma gets more to do in ten minutes than Naomi does in the whole film. And then there is that scene, which IMO was either reshot, ir was a result of lazy writing. The first act is the only reason why NTTD misses out on being one of worst Bond films, but overall NTTD is IMO the most disappointing Bond film to date.

the film would have been ''woke'' if Lynch's character replaced him, humiliated him and took his place after his death. But none of that happens.

The dialogue always felt off to me when watching. Like really out of character in some cases, especially with Bond. Bond acts so unusual and strange in this film in the dialogue department compared to Skyfall and Spectre, where he is more quiet and reserved but still charismatic. It's funny, I also walked out of the theatre not really feeling much of a reaction, either strongly positive or negative. It was more like, well I guess that's how DC wanted his Bond to go out, a shrug, and I'm already ready to turn the page on the DC era. The Bond and Madeleine storyline didn't work for me because Vesper is still very much there. Bond still loves Vesper and her betrayal still haunts him. I wasn't sold on Madeleine being the love of Bond's life because it seems obvious to me that if Bond could have Vesper back, he would choose Vesper over Madeleine, no question at all about it. I think the writers made a big mistake in making the callback to Vesper too heartfelt, it really undercut the Bond-Madeleine relationship. If Bond had simply paid his respects and then walked away to show the audience that he had 100% moved on from Vesper, then maybe the film would have worked much better. And since the audience has to buy into the Bond-Madeleine relationship for the rest of this film to really hit home, it didn't do much for me because I didn't buy that premise. It's a good film, but I'd put it middle of the pack for the DC era and for entire franchise overall.

Another questioner formerly owned the DB5 that George Lazenby drove in The Return of the Man From UNCLE. He said how, in real life, the car was constantly being repaired. On one occasion, the transmission fell out. And that was when the car wasn't quite 20 years old. The DB5s in No Time to Die are purpose-built stunt car replicas. Daniel Craig told Prince Charles all about it while cameras were rolling and microphones were recording.

I mean I get how he got the DB5, and he’s kept that around as HIS car. It’s never established that he’s into his old skool vintage Aston Martins. All the other cars we see him drive around were more modern. Anyway, I’m not mad at it. Loved the movie. A perfect end and conclusion to the Craig-era. He’s my favourite Bond. Casino Royale to this day is my favourite
I’m hoping the next step for the franchise is 13-episode Netflix series where we explore Bond before he went on missions. After over 50 years, this is the only direction it can go, otherwise they’ll just do copy+paste, having to re-establish characters they have already recently rebooted. Get someone much younger to play the character this time for longevity. Explore him in the same way Casino Royale did

Not being a fan of Craig and his "Bond" films, I had the advantage of watching NTTD with my expectations as low as you can get and, with that said, the movie didn't disappoint me at all. As a film standing on its own it might be a good piece of work. But on the other hand, as a BOND film, it fails miserably. As per usual, the Craig Era continues its trademark of being melodramatic and as un-Bond as possible. That's where I disagree with you HS. The Craig Era was not a reconstruction, it was a deconstruction. Never before a Bond film was a vanity project of its protagonist. NTTD is the first movie it happens. Thank goodness that DC is finally gone and now we can have a real reconstruction of the series with a brand new Bond. Let's hope for the best.

At the very least kudos to Daniel Craig for giving us a grittier Bond who is an actual 3 dimensional character that bleeds and has internal conflicts.

The way I look at the Bond franchise is that if the film works more than it doesn't (given that no series has ever remained an 'A' picture series this long, or even close) that's as much as can be expected or hoped for realistically. In any case, this is not Fleming's Bond or EON's classic Bond, but its own alternative mini-series drawing parallels with the classic EON films at most. With the sale to Amazon I believe the franchise could become truly fragmented, tailor-made to multiple media platforms and to specifically targeted sections of the general mass audiences.

And both audiences I saw it with were also silent at the end - just like yours was.
Which is definitely NOT what Producers and their Studio want to see at the end of their big blockbuster Movie.
Which is just a real shame since there was just SO much really GREAT classic Bond elements in there.
First of all - the film was nowhere near as “Woke” as we were led to believe -
if anything, the marketing department that pushed it made a giant tactical error that probably cost them millions at the box office because it turned so many people off.
We were all afraid of Nomi making fun of Bond and being set up to take over - but that did not happen at all.
Her character was just great and worked beautifully with Bond throughout the movie - Bond was NOT put down in any way so no issues there either.
Madeline was also terrific - much better than she ever was in Spectre.
I really believed their romance this time - when I didn’t in that movie.
The story, action and directing was fresh, polished and lightning paced - I did not feel it’s 2 hours 45 minutes at all.
But boy…..that ending just pretty much crashed the whole movie.
Second time around I definitely did like it better though - so maybe this will age well .
    We’ll see.
One things for sure - after what they did here -
They have definitely made it much more complicated to do the next one!

I asked my friend a while back who isnt a bond fan, which bond is your favorite, he said, brosnan, goldeneye, and i was like there are other bonds, he told me i can only picture brosnan as bond, he looks the part, i cant picture anyone else, at that moment, i felt of that makes sense, since a casual bond fan may think there was only one, and the others are imitators, and thats okay, i think the consensus is who you grow up with, i think that craig, has some interesting merits and facets to teh character, but his look of bieng hadnsome fades to me i find him less handsome as time moves on, like a mixture of ed harris/gurt frobe/ robert shaw/ blonde henchman/ the guy from modern family and all love and marriage frank sintra song family show i forgot the name but i have to finish watching that show at some point, sometimes i dont want to look at him, but i guess that felming in a way of not looking that great, but other aspects are great i feel like vesper is his tracy, in this carnation, and it made ssense, and i liked that grave scene then the for your eyes only one, where they also battle blowfeld, in both but different methods of doing it, i like the action and chase seenes, the db5 was so good visually entertaining, but yes teh arch of teh db5 in this had to retire, you can bring it once in a while, but give it a rest, we blow it up in skyfall, thats when it should have ended, if anything why not have a different olor db5, maybe black or grey, that would make more sense, alot of blwoing up which i hated, i just dont want my dad to watch this, who is fan sine h watched the thunderball in teh 60s, i think this can change his view on life you know when your older, what i got from this mvoie, is that people were scared, in a time where we had world wars, tech giants, drug dealers, and missiles going to the wrong hands, bond who is the symbol of secret services like Mi6, CiA, NSA, Massaud, any of those security, he symbolizes them, and bodn can help alleviate those tensions, but when it comes ot a virus, bond couldnt even defeat it, sometimes the villian, wins which is interesting, i wont go into spoilers in this lets just say i would loved this film, if the YOLT elements were alluded to like inception, like did bond have this did he have that, you know not to give anything away, when they show it, its to much to process, cause. ithikn of the influences, like the marvel movies, and F9 which F9, was abysmall, but marvel had its own sotry, its not tryign to be something else, i wish craigs bond was different but it went to much to not find its own bond identity, and thats what i hated, yes the soap opera drama i hated it first was shown in TWINE, but i do like the aspects of secrets, i thin that lot thread, i really liked, safin. isfleming and loved him, i wish he was more mencing, maybe howing how many people he killed, not physically since he gets rampaged by bond, lol, but menacing, i mean see james bond radio, they talk more in detail, and its better for it, the ending wasnt a big fan, i would have loved if tehy just didnt have an ending and it happened abruptly missles are coming doesnt hit the plany yet, it just faes to black as bo dcloses his eyes, the end of his name being bond jame sbond, felt so bad to me, like his name guys is bond james bond, not james bond, the line he uses to greet peoolle is his name, so. ican do with out the ending, and alec was right in goldeneye about bond. I wil letyou thinkk about what he said when the scene happens here, craig fihgt against sean in sharky series. harkum back to OHMSS to much, and it wasnt deservied, it should have been the caisno oryale themee, if anything, it felt ike these bond films were different alternative timelines, and he nods OHMSS, whic i apprecaiate that recoginition that movie deserves, inspired die hard that says something, also first christams action film, and the best one in that, if craig drive the car with teh casino royale theme, that would make more sense, italy looks great in the time we werre there, but overeall aspects to like about it but as a whole to lazy, i will watch it again its last days, in theater, which i dont know, but i just wont watch teh ending, im gonna leave once he is in teh ladder portion going up, i think i liked htat i hated teh bond james bond line harkumin g back to casino, but just didnt fit, it felt like an indian writer wrote that ending his name isnt bondjamesbond, like she said it fast its james bond, come on, that possed me off, Die another day, took out the conventions of what bond would be,, it felt to hollywood, adn this was a mvoie to show taht bond should change, but im scare of what the future might hold for our baby whihc is bond, when our baby, is aorund movies like avengers, and dark knight and dont use them well, you get this,

NT2D is great . Watched it twice. Will watch it a third time this weekend. It will be remembered as a milestone like OHMSS and LTK in some years. People had problems with LTK and OHMSS when they were released because they broke new ground and did something different. NT2D is just the same. My only complaint: Saffin was underused and underdeveloped. . There wasn´t a stand-out stunt or action scene ... but I did not miss those (nor do I miss stupid gadgets). This movie is more about tone, athmosphere and character. And I have to say that the movie did some things that I wanted to see in the Bond franchise. It is a brilliant sent-off for Craig´s Bond. Compare this "final movie" with Connery´s , Moore´s or Brosnan´s. Ranking: CR, NT2D, Spectre, Skyfall, Quantum of Solace

God this comment is total shilling....
Look, Killing James Bond is NOT innovative. It's a last ditch effort by Craig himself to torch the franchise and run because he's sick of playing the character. You NTTD fans are such sheep, aren't you?

    • @Germaniac77
      @Germaniac77 Před 2 lety

Torching the Bond franchise? The Craig era nt onyl brought Bond back to it´s roots but it also brought it back on track after the abysmal Bosnan-era. I prefer Bond going out like this than seing him getting his balls grabbed by a girl half his age like in AVTAK. This was a fitting ending for a / the Bond character. Does anyone really think that Fleming´s Bond would live to see his pension? There is no happy ending for this guy.

@@Germaniac77 Yes, BUT THE ACTOR GOT SICK OF PLAYING THE ROLE.
Isn't it possible for you to accept that sometimes, a piece of media begins as one thing and then ends as another, worser one? I mean, yes. Casino Royale and Skyfall are classics, and Quantum of Solace had good moments (notably the ending). *BUT* the moment they decided to turn it into an ongoing story with SPECTRE, Craig's tenure ended on a more sour note. And the decision to dedicate an entire film to killing Bond and other characters shows that by the time Bond 25 became No Time To Die, the people behind it, notably Daniel Craig himself, were just sick of the whole ordeal and decided to strike the match and burn it all down, complete with a dash of "Subverting Expectations".
Look, if you like No Time To Die, then you like No Time To Die, but to act as if it was a revolutionary masterpiece when it was really a clear case of too many cooks and attempted torching of the franchise is just.... WRONG.

@@NebLleblLOOOOOL! Connery also got sick of the role and sleepwalked through his last movies because of that. Craig kept up good performances. ... and do you really think that it was Craig decision to kill of Bond and that Broccoli/WIlson weren´t the ones who were seeing an actor leaving the role as an opportùnity to end his tenure this way? Godzilla died several times, Laurie Strode died several times, Sarah Connor died and came back,. None of those deaths were meant to "end a franchise" and neither the creators /producers/actors torched those franchises with that nor did they had the intention to do so. . Those characters all came back, in different incarnations/timelines ... same will happen with Bond. If you think that Babara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson aree sick of their franchise then you are out of your mind. You know that Bond will be back and you know that they will not give away the rights anytime soon. They had the opportunity to end a Bond movie with a bang!. With the entire Craig-era they avoided to make the movie too "formulisic" and make the same movies over-and-over again (which happened in the Bronsan-era) . They concentrated on characters and arcs and that is what make the Craifg-era stand out

EON should pack it up and call it a day. I wouldn't mind. It's been a good run, but Bond, the real Bond, is too "problematic" for today's sensibilities. And I think EON really diminished the value of the franchise with this movie, especially with the ending.

The movie isn't bad or incompetent. It's just really generic and unmemorable. I saw it yesterday and I only remember the great intro, final scene with Felix, the god awful race joke with Lynch (You know what I'm talking about) and the weird ending.
So yeah... Pretty generic, uninspiring Bond movie. They should've ended it on Skyfall.
P.S. Ana De Armas can do no wrong.

The problem with the 2nd half is it should have been the final 3rd. In fact the "North Woods" sequence should have been cut entirely. That's roughly 20 minutes or so that should have been left on the cutting room floor. They set it up as a totally false "Bonding (pun intended) experience" that actually destroyed the pacing. It would have been better if he'd simply arrived too late w Madelaine already adducted and an instant of revelation as he discovers the 2nd bedroom w all it's implications... At MOST he picks up a photo he stares at for a few moments in route to the final confrontation. Let the audience make all the leaps and build in an added level of suspense/anticipation. It's a premature over long interaction that for roughly 20 minutes stops the movie. Let him kill the State Dept traitor in an ambush fight leaving the house or a preliminary kill upon reaching the island.. Hell, better yet have the female 00 do it to save Bond on the island after the guy get's the drop on Bond... Thus avenging Felix and (no pun intended) completing their "Bonding".

I hear a LOT of Bond fans use phrases like “like a classic Connery Bond” or “like a classic Roger Moore Bond” whenever discussing a Bond film - with history we get different BRANDS of 007. No two brands are *exactly* alike and all of them have at least one that breaks the mold, but only a little. So now we have “A Craig Bond” brand. From here on out we’ll hear things like “this felt more like a classic Connery than a classic Craig”. This whole “not Bond” thing I find arrogant and preposterous. Because they did something different? The Craig era has people who love it and people who don’t rightfully so, but I’m kinda sick and tired of the gate keeping. We had 20 Bond films with virtually the exact same formula, but this 5 film arc seems just too much for some fans to handle. This era, for me, shows a willingness to be ballsy. For better or for worse. I’ll take him falling in love and having a child, and dying a noble sacrifice than another Tidal wave surfing scene.

    • @jamesfleming9837
      @jamesfleming9837 Před 2 lety

There's nothing wrong with being ballsy. It just has to pay off.
With this movie... It didn't pay off..
And it doesn't feel like a bond movie at all. The plot is too convoluted, manipulative and predictable. It takes itself way too seriously and it doesn't have a style to it. Like Casino Royale or Skyfall had (Hell, even Spectre was stylish as hell and it was a bad movie). I LOVE Craig's Bond and NTTD was kinda disappointing to say the least. I liked the first scene, Ana de Armas was great, Craig himself was cool (although the dialogue was weird) but they could've made much, much better final film for Craig.

President Kudsi Because it flips the film's famous conclusion around. In OHMSS Bond's wife had to ultimately die because settling down was not compatible with Bond's nature as a character, whereas in NTTD the character's function itself, along with him, was wiped out so a single mother could be raised to the pedestal and a new, "diverse" MI6 could emerge. This is the height of so-called "wokeness."

    • @JesseBrown-qf6zp

President Kudsi No. The point of the daughter/single mother aspect was to erase the established character. Now the franchise will be rebooted with another another male, but highly "correct," Bond. Ana De Armas will be the closest the franchise ever gets to having a female Bond in her Paloma spin-off film(s), which are surely coming given the popularity of the character.
