      Totally agree.
I’ve always felt that Rathbone’s interpretation of Holmes was true to the stories by Conan Doyle.
But the portrayal of Watson as an idiot and a buffoon was not at all true to the original character.
The movies were entertaining, but the portrayal of Watson by Nigel Bruce was cringe inducing for fans of the books.

I'm not sure just what it is about a crime thriller set on a moving train, it's something I've never been able to put my finger on it, all i know is that there is something undeniably "relaxing" (for want of a better word) about these classic movies, they Never get old. Black & white movies by their very nature are so calming especially during the horrible wet & cold weather we are blessed with here in Britain, a nice warm fire, wrapped up in a fleece blanket and a classic black & white crime thriller/horror movie and you're guaranteed a warm & cosy hour of sheer entertainment. I have this fantastic Sherlock Holmes series of films starring the brilliant Basil Rathbone already on dvd but when i saw this on youtube i had to watch it as it's been a few years since I've seen these. THANKYOU SO MUCH for uploading these classics, im sure many others will enjoy these....THEY NEVER GET OLD!!

You are 100% right, Sherlock Holmes will always be Basil Rathbone the same as Sean Connery will always be James Bond. The old Hollywood did come up with a few other good detectives. It's too bad todays Hollywood can't create another 00, 008,009. I guess the "suits" don't want to take a chance on anyone being creative. They only want to go with repeating old stuff. Only one problem the new is rarely as good as the original.

These great movies were cast with many of the same supporting actors in multiple adventures. The math professor, the teapot thief, the conductor, the train attendant, the casket maker, all appeared in others. Pull up the cast lists and compare. Lot's of repeats. I guess when you've put together a compatible and versatile team, you go back to them when the studio calls for the next project.
