- Piers Morgan Uncensored is joined by former First Minister of Scotland Alex Salmond, CEO of anti-monarchy group Republic Graham Smith and lawyer and TalkTV contributor Paula Rhone-Adrien to discuss the recent conversations within the SNP of a potential future decision to distance themselves from the monarchy and become a republic.
Piers asks Alex if he would have made the same announcement during his time in office. While he thinks abolishing the monarchy could be a good idea, he believes it would be best to trial the reign of King Charles III for a few years first.
Graham heavily criticises the monarchy, suggesting that no one wants the Royal Family around anymore and people are becoming less interested. However Piers heatedly insists that the late Queen was the most respected person worldwide. Who do you agree with?

I never thought anything of the monarchy, until we lost the Queen. The public were never reminded enough of what a woman The Queen was, that’s why people didn’t know her enough. If people took the time to see how much turmoil and at such a young age, she handled everything with grace. She had no choice what preceded her. the country has not been the same and I feel like something is missing since she passed.

It would be more useful to highlight the huge funds the Royal Family brings in through Tourism, the enormous funds their philanthropic patronages attract and the people they help, the unique diplomatic skills and the relationships they maintain with other countries that cannot be replicated by any politician or celebrity, instead of just focusing on respect alone. People who don’t get it need to understand numbers and benefit to the regular public

American here. I love the “comfort blanket” (as Piers M described the RF) of the monarchy. People all over the world look up to the RF. There is a lot of meanness in the world. The RF is kind and dignified, supporting wonderful causes and charities. I think the UK is lucky to have the history, traditions and civility of the monarchy.

4.6 billion people are not a fantasy. 4.6 billion people watched out of respect and grief for a woman they knew their whole life. She was a comfort to many people. People lined up for days for that 1 second of seeing her laying in state. Many people had the same answer when asked why they were there. They were there for their parents and grandparents. That alone proves the respect and loyalty the queen showed to people. These people did the same for her. She spent 70 years looking out for people and they were willing to wait day's to show her the love she gave them. It isn't a fantasy. It's loyalty and respect.

As an American, I think that a monarchy couldn’t work here in America but it is a great system over there. It allows the politicians to focus on political things and the royal family to handle the social requirements of a country. They also do a lot of work for charity. They bring up “what if Andrew was oldest” but he isn’t. Charles is. And then it is William and there is no sign that he is an Andrew. After that is George and time will tell how he turns out but how about waiting to cross the bridge of an “Andrew” being the one to inherit till that time comes about. You’ve got about 75 years of reign in front of you without a sign of a bad head of state

I'm also an American and I 100% agree. I would NEVER support a monarchy in America, but Britain isn't America and America isn't Britain. The British monarchy is over 1100 years old and in modern times is almost entirely ceremonial. There's no point in having an elected head of state if he/she has no real political power, especially in a country like Britain where the monarchy is such a vital institution. It's also important to our alliance with Britain because as an apolitical institution, they serve to bridge the gap between our government and the British parliament in a way that creates unified support in both countries.

I'm an American, and while I generally prefer elected heads of state, I think it would be a terrible mistake for the British monarchy to be abolished. It's a vital part of British history and culture, and it's one of the things that sets them apart from us. In addition, because the British monarch's role is almost entirely symbolic, it makes little sense to replace that with an elected head of state whose role is also almost entirely symbolic, especially when it requires the scrapping of an 1100+ year old institution. In a parliamentary system, there's really no difference between a hereditary head of state and an elected one, at least when it comes to their role.

Jamaica is the only commonwealth country that isn't even allowed to visit England without a visa. Modern infrastructure on the island is done through deals with China to build the highways and a Mexican company runs and maintains the airports even though they're all the property of the Jamaican government. Your Royal Monarchy has survived for over a Thousand years for a reason. Don’t give up on it now just because of a few bad apples it has in the family. The RF does wonderful work for the people. Look Piers, as a Brazilian who leaves in England for the least 24 years and have 2 British Citizens sons, I can only tell you that my only hope it's that YOU can start a revolution to kick out everyone who is against the monarch, who it's against should be out of the country... British people should reinforced the meaning of British traditions... who are these other nationalities to tell British people how to leave???... Britain is for British people and any other nationality who comes over should respect and walk together with it...

Jordan Peterson eloquently states the best arguments for a monarchy. This Republic fellow is not near intelligent enough to understand the political importance of the British monarchy.
Since Mr. Smith has never been to the US, then he can't possibly fathom how shaken this country would be if suddenly the British monarchy went away. Truly, we probably wouldn't know what to do over here. It has nothing to do with whether we fought to *not* be ruled by a monarch, it's such a constant in an ever-changing world that losing it would be almost unfathomable to most of us.

Part of the reason I want relocate to the UK is for the Monarchy. I don’t want to live in a Republic. It’s far too divisive.
I believe PM's and Presidents have agendas as they come and go! If there is a leader such as our late Queen who spreads compassion, peace, understanding, wisdom, dignity and grace...at the same time being apolitical yet a constant comfort, and we all need that of our leaders! As a Canadian I will still love the Monarchy and I'm patient and willing to see what our new King brings to the table!
I'd like to give Charles a chance since he hasn't really had one yet with all the division that Megan has brought to the UK, commonwealth and the RF!
I just wish all the leaders of all countries would stop putting money into these climate change (in the future) fears they try and push!

As a US citizen, I have more respect for Queen Elizabeth than almost any other leader in my lifetime. She set an example the whole world should follow.

I enjoy Piers when he acts civil. I don’t like shouting matches. Nobody truly wins. Watch piers being interviewed by Ben Shapiro 2 days ago and even though I am aware they share similar views on the subject of H and M it was nice to see a civil discourse with Piers involved that I could listen to without cringing. When he adds Tessa Dunlop to his commentator panel it becomes almost unbearable. I can tell he enjoys sparring with her and others who support H and M though!🤣🤣 Just my opinion and even with that opinion I will continue to watch when he covers HM and the Monarchy as he speaks what I believe is true.
It’s a spurious argument to say “What if it had been Andrew or that it’s a lottery”. If Andrew had been the heir his upbringing and preparation would have been entirely different, just as Elizabeth had an entirely different preparation than her sister. Careful preparation for their future role has, almost entirely, been very effective in assuring that the future Monarch will be well able to occupy the position. Perhaps with the sad exception of Edward who was simply a weak individual and whose abdication, after the fact, was widely recognized as a fortuitous event , he would have made an abysmal King.
My problem is that the royal family get to live royally well beyond the means of millions of others just bc of what?
