@@raptunoc787 Exactly, just because Jeep has a history of having indestructible cars in the mid 20th century doesn't mean they're indestructible. The demise of this engine was probably due to owner negligence considering those 4 liter Jeep inline 6's are known as not only one of the best inline 6's(second only to the Ford 4.9) but they are some of the best engines in general ever made, period.
I've had a lot of good luck with inline sixes over the years (Ford 300, Chevrolet 250, Chrysler 225 slant, and International Harvester "Black Diamond"). Simple to work on, and ran forever. Probably why they quit making them- they weren't making anything on repairs, and not selling enough new vehicles to suit them. 🙄
YTDC EXPOSEDX2 no the owners never got an oil change causing it to have issues with the motor if he continued this for much longer it would have thrown a rod completely ruining the engine it isn't a neutral safety switch it's a busted rod and possible a timing belt
we service our own vehicles and do most of our own repairs. even Our 2003 ford windstar runs like a top with over 350 thou miles. other shit is going bad but the engine is still very strong and runs quiet.
Also it’s wildly entertaining how mad you was getting at the engine for not staying cranked, as if it wasn’t completely grenaded on the inside ready to throw a rod out the bottom.🤣
That 4.0L I6 is a beast, has enough torque to chirp the tires from a dead stop and it can easily get to 200k miles with just simple tune ups. That engine can take some abuse, because mine overheated numerous times due to a bad radiator and a worn out water pump. And when it overheats it shuts itself down and when you restart it it sounds like a train because it runs on like 3 cylinders, it can be driven for like half a mile like that at the most.
funny thing about it is if they detail the shit out of the interior and get a new key made from the dealer, they could still sell this truck for at least 1100
The same thing happened to my dad's Jeep Grand Cherokee with the inline 6. That noise that engine is making is rod knock. :D It developed at about the same mileage as the Jeep in this video too. From what I was told, there was casting problem at the factory with a certain run of these engines, and no matter how well you took care of the engine, it'd eventually develop rod knock.
My 04 has 267k on it when we sold it and never once had this issue but my neighbor we sold it to didnt put oil in it and fried a head gasket and seized it up.

my oldsmobile blew its 3300 v6 motor the other day. it was always a PITA to start, but this time it backfired like a gunshot. got out to see smoke coming from all around the intake and one valve cover. the backfire was so strong it blew the intake and somehow the valve cover gasket. now it sounds like that jeep when I try to start it... kind of tries but just wont catch

at least the engine light wasn't on
