    That Boyds Stock is the Barracuda. They call it a "skeletonize" stock -- light weight, free-floats the barrel for better accuracy. Very cool.

    I also went with the Volquartsen target hammer, but that was after I bought a 18 Bull Barrel from Eabco and a cheap plastic stock to accomodate it. But the first thing I did was a 3-10x40 Tasco scope mounted on the stock rail. The final improvement was a 20 MOA pic rail from Tactical Solutions. That really stretched it's legs.

    Thanks for the comparison. I am starting to build a target 10/22 from a 30 year old stainless model. I have the first gun I ever bought a 1981 Ruger 10/22 that I have to leave original, it has always shot great with the original iron sights.
    Going to buy a good scope this weekend, then going to gun show to see if I can find a good stock (the original stock on this stainless model is plastic). Really appreciate the trigger comparison, I feel I am a good shot with factory trigger but for about 50 bucks I have to try the trigger job. I know I will end up with a bull barrel, but want to build in stages to see the improvement. Great video for what I plan to do and lets me know i am on the right track. For anyone who doesn't have a 10/22 just get one, you won't be disappointed.

    I appreciate so much quality information in this video. I finally decided to buy another.22 rifle. I’ve been plinking with my Ted Williams 3T since I was about six years old 😂 I’ve always wanted a suppressed .22 and I finally jumped on a can. Honestly I was expecting to get an AR platform but when I was checking out a local outdoor range today I stopped by the shop there and found an older 10/22(still all metal) at a good price and was owned by the owner, gunsmith of the shop. Even came with a Weaver D4 4x from the 80’s that is in great shape. My first upgrade obviously is going to be a barrel. It was hilarious when your peacock cried out. I have them in my neighborhood and it’s mating season, I thought that it was one next to my porch when I heard it.

Got a houge stock with built in foldable bi pod sticks. I use that one for hunting. Archangel precision FDE stock for serious shooting. Got volquartsen titanium trigger job at 2.5 lbs pull.

    • @guslulu4126

      Most people aren’t skilled enough for the expensive aftermarket parts to be worth the cost or make a noticeable difference. For the few that are highly skilled, highly accurate precision shooters, the aftermarket parts do make a difference. They allow them to squeeze that tiny bit of precision, control, and accuracy from the platform. That being said, a lot of us just love to upgrade our firearms. It’s part of the hobby that many derive a lot of enjoyment from, whether it makes us more accurate and effective or not. I’ve become a trigger snob and for my rifles, I prefer a 1.5-2# pull, that breaks like a glass rod, with a reset that’s short, tactile, and audible. If I shot the same gun with a factory trigger and then an expensive, after market trigger, I doubt my accuracy would be significantly different. That being said, I would would derive more pleasure and enjoyment from the experience when using the better trigger. And for me, having fun is an important factor in the equation. The practical aspects of owning and shooting firearms, such as self defense and preparedness for those worst case scenarios we like to think about are of greater importance, but if I’m not having fun, I probably would end up with less trigger time, less practice, and I wouldn’t be as prepared as I could be. Everyone has their own reasons for owning and shooting and there are different aspects of gun ownership that trip their triggers. Do whatever gives you the greatest satisfaction and you can’t lose.

    TG200 volquarsten hammer and green mountain target barrel, Boyds stock. am I missing anything? I have a MK5HD I want to put on it. do you think its too much scope power right now(5-25x56)? its a weaver base if im correct they're smaller than picatinney right? where are your links to get these parts
    ? am I missing anything to get the ultimate tack driver out of this. Its a semi auto put im trying to make this almost as accurate as my ruger precision rifle .22lr.

    Nice video for bang for your buck. A solid non fluted barrel will be more accurate as with a floating barrel. As someone already mentioned the front mount screw is the magic key. The torque on that screw will effect the harmonics of the setup and accuracy.
    On another note, if you want something amazing, go all KIDD after market parts. It's expensive though. What may shock many is KIDD is better than Volquartzen in fit and quality. Their triggers put all other triggers to shame as their barrels also.

    how do you lock the bolt open with an extended magazine release like that?

    • @guslulu4126
      @guslulu4126 Před 3 lety +2

      The mag release has nothing to do with locking the bolt back. There is a relief cut on the side of the mag release that allows allows access to the bolt hold open mechanism that sits in front of the safety mechanism. If you haven’t done it already, remove that bolt hold open lever and grab a little file or deemed and remove just a little material on the right location and then, when the bolt is locked open, you can pull back on the bolt and release it, and it’ll drop into battery without having to touch the lever again. There are plenty of videos on how much to remove on the part to get the desired results. If you don’t want to mess with modifying the factory part, you can buy an after market part that comes ready to drop in and gives you the same results. However, I thinks it’s a waste to purchase one if the after market parts because doing the mod yourself couldn’t be much easier and it’s really hard to screw up. Get online and look at the shape of the opening on one of the aftermarket parts and remove material on your stock part so it’s similar to the aftermarket part. It doesn’t have to be exact, just similar. Basically you need to remove the section of metal that comes to a point, and round the area out a little bit. It’s almost impossible to screw up.

    Does no one teach the scientific method any more? Pick ONE and ONLY one variable. In this case, take a shortcut and start with the original stock gun, shoot say 3 groups. Then switch the stock. 3 groups. Then trigger, 3 groups. Barrel, repeat. The US military has already done the testing for scopes so we know the average effect will be a 50% reduction in group size. LAST step, because it is barrel specific, is to try different ammo. Now you can say definitively which upgrades made the most and least difference and what an optimal configuration looks like. The rest of this is just fluff and fun for the shooter but about as informative as flipping a coin.
