This video is in no way affiliated with The LEGO Group and is published as an adult fan of LEGO (AFOL).
It’s always so great to here real insight instead of the sometimes misinformed afol echo chamber. Personally I though the style for the BTS set came across really well. K-pop fans near me loved it. Would be interested to see a video on Ariel’s underwater palace. Feels like there’s an interesting story or two behind that design, especially being one of the only versions of that location to include the light yellow arches that I feel the palace is known for. Also that octopus is very cute and simultaneously looks like a Zelda chu chu to me!
Wonderful! Thanks for making this set a reality. 😭
Thank you also for mentioning the simplicity of Jacob and I’s original submission.
Absolutely love this series!
Thanks for the BTS on the BTS Lego set design lol
Great BTS of the BTS set
2:20 Duckbricks used this technique from this set on lego masters
4:07 😅 this is pointed out by Jangbricks each time
I probably won't get this set, but it is cool
Please do the BTS (other kind) of Andrea's theatre school next
tbf I think the price is fair enough with the amount of custom minifigs and the brand
Love this breakdown, really made me look at this set I didn’t care for in a new light. Studying LEGO sets made for different markets than usual is always fascinating. Also 4 wide vehicles are so much fun (:
Next you should talk about the Combo Race Set! That one really flew under the radar for me until you tweeted about its comparability with a newer set. Made me take a long look at the design, and I really love it
Great video as always! I would love to get a more in-depth look at how the magazine gifts are decided and designed. Keep it up!
Truly Loved The BTS Set!
Thank you! It means a lot :)
Nice "bts" (behind the scene) ! Glad to know someone else like stickers :)
darn it I got beat lol
Maybe Lego could make a cheap sticker applicator? And better quality stickers. I think that would solve 90% issue
Yeah they all have a 1mm boarder so you should be able to come up with something that aligns it perfectly with a corner
I love your positive inclusive energy regarding the whole process of designing a toy.
Could you go into more detail of how the 'budget' of a model is set? Like, what are the parameters you have to follow on a model? How is its size set? Does the price of the model exist before you design it?
A lot of that stuff is either decided by people above the designers or a bit too NDA breaking for me to respond, Sorry!
I was unfamiliar with the music video, so once the set was revealed, I went and watched the music video. Did you play at all with the geography of the buildings? In the video the record store and disco house are in an L shape facing each other, but I'd imagine this wouldn't necessarily fit on shelves as well (and I'm not sure what you'd put in the big blank white space between them)
I'd imagine a lot of your frames (new colors/prints/elements) were soaked up by unique minifigure parts...
As far as colours go, were you mostly hamstrung by budget and available parts, or was it a creative decision to bring more vibrant colours in, rather than sticking to the more pastel palette of the video? The donut sign arrow back and the base of the donut shop look more like that same minty aqua green you used to flank the disco house in the video, but you mixed it up. That and the ice cream on top of the truck looks arguably closer to light nougat, but that might be too many recolors? That and the green Disco House door looks closer to Sand Blue in the video, instead of Sand Green.
You're right, the Minifigures did suck up most of the colour changes... ;P
I do not like this set, but I understand that I am not the target audience and I see why it was designed this way (I agree it is pretty accurate - the building, the figs). It just doesn't offer much to Afols. I am also sure if there was a similar set representing my favourite band I would run to the Store on day 1 :) (There was a 10k submission for Queen "I want to break free").
Well done - the set, the video, looking forward to your next video!
Welcome to the Black Parade made it to 10k and wasn't chosen and I will never forgiver the LEGO Ideas team for that ;-;
@@Tubeside you think it was due to the fan base, much lower than for BTS, or the licence and image of the band?
You should move your camera down a little so your face isn’t so low in the frame 😊
I did position it right but I then slouched. Teaches me to not have proper posture haha
I do understand the sentiment of the platform not being 'LEGO Finished Products' but imo the job of the designers at TLG itself should be refining, not making a set more or less from the ground up. If the quality of the fan model truly didn't matter, surely Ideas may as well be just a written list of IPs that fans could vote for?
Hey, that's a great idea! :D
;)
