Props to Jang for always doing his research for every new set reveal. Nobody else does it like him.
(The thought of Jang watching a K-Pop video is so funny 😭)
The Central Perk set had 43% more pieces and cost 40% less.
It’s BTS, that’s why hahah
This set doesn't have much of an audience outside of BTS fans, it's still going to sell insanely well. Like Jang said this is effectively band merch, this kind of stuff is always marked up in price.
This is definitely priced because they know K-pop stans will buy it.
Yes, 4 years ago. If CP came out today, it would be 99$ if not more.
Not a BTS fan, but I know their fans would pay any price for this, since the set actually looks pretty dang good.
05:22 I laughed at how the editors made the surrounding of the set more colorful in order to hide how plain the set looks.
I love how awkward you acted realizing you watched that music video 😂. Love your content Jang!!!
It's not too bad. I like what they did with the stage that double as a stand for the minifigs. And if you're not into the IP, that could still serve as a small shopping area in a city.
My point exactly! Ignoring the price, it’s a great parts pack, the minifigure parts are great for further expanding variety in one’s MOCs. The record store and donut shop are a lot more complete than LEGO normally does with their facades (but not unlike they do with their stage sets based on various sitcoms, since the point is to match well decorated film sets), and the colors would fit well in someone’s Friends collection or even LEGO city depending on the sets they use.
Aw sweet, a giant donut to put my iron man figure in (weird that it includes a bunch of other stuff and is $100 though)
This is cool for those who are into K-Pop and Lego, though I’m not sure how much of a crossover there is. I personally don’t get it but I’m happy for those that are interested in the set :)
The target market is not the x-over
The huge marketing scheme is to bring BTS fans into lego
I am a pretty big fan of Kpop, and while it's pretty cool to see Kpop in Lego form, especially for those who love BTS, I wish Lego would have chosen a different music video to base a set on. I know that probably the only reason this set was made was because of how hugely popular BTS (and especially their English songs) are, but there are so many Kpop music videos that are significantly more creative and aesthetically pleasing that would make really good Lego sets.
glad to hear you watched the source video and confirm the set matches it. BTS fans will probably love it, so that's fine.. but I hope all the stickers don't make it too challenging for those new to lego. this set is not for me, and i'm fine with that. thanks for the review
I have kids. They dont sweat the stickers. They think the stickers are fun and dont care if they are crooked.
They could have just sold the mini figs and a base plate for a fraction of the cost but they needed to make a cash grab. The rest of the pieces (stickers included) will just end up in the trash bin.
Yeah I always thought the original submission was very underdeveloped and plain, but I guess that is what the music video is like! Do feel a bit bad for the other ideas submissions that were passed over for a very underdeveloped one just because Lego knew BTS would sell so well
The set is just abysmal for most LEGO fans. But this will be a huge hit for anyone who is a BTS fan. And this set, while terribly priced, will likely still sell like hot cakes within the BTS community.
my girlfriend is not into Lego. until nouw. please get me one
How is it abysmal for us? I don't understand people's problems with the set
@@muddyblokjes9753 I’m in the same boat lol. Mine sometimes joins me when I build. I know she’s gonna like building this
@@NinjagoTheory Same here. There are plenty of $100+ sets for people who don't like this one, more than anyone could ever afford.
Okay, we got the BTS set. Now we need a LEGO STAR WARS VENATOR set.
I haven’t touched Lego in 40 years and I am feeling very nervous about the stickers. So jeering a seasoned Lego guy saying there is a lot of stickers make me feel a bit better. So it isn’t just me 😂 You are also the only review so far that mentioned how high fidelity this set has with the actual music video which is very 2D. Thanks so much
Finally time for Jang’s K-pop stan arc
Finally....wouldn't be surprised if his wife is a secret kpop fan.
if this happens i'm unsubscribing
@@nomadAKAskinfish do it boomer
I respect your honesty and your opinion Jang, always. IMO, even if this set sells well, I do not think that lego needs to do every IP they can get their hands on. I think themes that challenge lego builders and encourage creative building or celebrate building are more important than any set that totes iconic minifigures. I think this is the nail in the coffin for ideas fans who are tired of the sitcom sets and things like it. I have musical tastes, but I don't think most musical themes like bands and such make good sets. I did not buy the Rolling Stones or Beatles sets, and I really enjoy their music. I'm more likely to buy a lego set of something I do not watch or listen to, that totes an interesting parts and build experience at an affordable price
This is a subject of a set I have basically no interest in, BUT if it's a fun set that makes people happy I'm happy. What I'm most intrigued by is what looks like a Dark Orange technic ball being used as a Basketball. That seems like a stellar part for Bionicle builds in old colors!
I feel like they’ve done that before, but if not, it’s questionable why LEGO didn’t do it sooner. Maybe one day we’ll get a printed version of that part with the rubber seams seen on normal basket balls.
For half a minute, I thought the truck was on the roof.
I appreciate the middle part haircut pieces. hopefully this set sells well enough to keep their price low on bricklink
That price, that's insane!
While I think you covered most of what you could say with a full review in this video (the build process doesn’t seem very enjoyable), I would love to see some of those stickered pieces in your city! (Of course, it’s definitely more worth it to get the sticker sheet after-market then dropping $100 on this.)
it's "supposed" to be a kinetic set : on the side you see gear ; they "dance" on the stange ...
For the amount of Minifigures I'd compare this to the Central Perk set, I think I paid €70 for that set when it was new. That's a big price jump in a few years.
5:49 I just realized the coffee sign has only 1 e instead of 2. Also, props to Jang for doing research before making this video.
Would love to see you review this! I agree that even it’s like a $55 set, I think $70-80 would be a good price point for this one. There’s obviously a big licensing price to pay for this one though. I think the set might have some decent building surprises that would be worth looking into and reviewing!
Not really into the music but I do love that it has a cheery vibe and boy does this world need that! I hope the fans will enjoy this set but wish it was a bit cheaper for them as it seems pretty overpriced to me.
Yes!! I want you to buy this :)) This set has to be reviewed by the best because it's not a common set!
I went to see the LEGO tweets just out of curiosity for the scale of the potential windfall from this set.
The teaser had 343k likes.
The reveal has 94k likes in less than 24 hours and getting a hundred more every few minutes.
I guess this is how they're paying for all those high value $10 sets lol
BTS member Jimin, did a live last week and got 5.8million watching him build a lego set! That set sold out in most places after that live 🤣 ( our sell out kings) And that's not the whole fandom!
I say buy it. I appreciate the international appeal of LEGO sets. All those stickers allow for someone such as myself to use the pieces and stickers anywhere, but I'm the type who had to really concentrate on placing the stickers on the parts for the FRIENDS theatrical school!😥😂
I think part of the problem with this set is that for anyone who doesn’t know what a BTS is, it just looks really plain, almost like a City set from a few years ago
I’d love to see you get your hands on this and see what its like
Am I gonna buy this? No, am I upset lego made This? No!! Do I want Jang to spend 100 real actual dollars to confirm that I don’t want to buy it? Naaaaa, save that money for Rivendell!!
I'm upset that lego made this; all the other ideas on lego ideas were better than this garbage
Love your videos thank you
From the best reviews of Rc cars to the best reviews of Legos he's still out here doing amazing work. Love to see it. Keep it up jang
The forest green suit and tie could work nicely as a manager for the Boutique Hotel - here’s hoping that torso will be on bricks and pieces. The rest doesn’t really speak to me, but I hope it sells well enough to cover whatever licensing they had to shell out for.
I was hoping some of the torsos might be useful but sadly only one without any flesh tone printed. I do need to get a sticker sheet - those record shop stickers are perfect for my record store MOC
Oh man, now I won’t be alone in my pursuit of the speed champions sets March 1. Normally there isn’t a line at the local Lego store on a weekday for day one releases, but now I’m scared. Looks like I’ll be having an early morning!
There's a couple of Star Wars helmets releasing that day as well, so expect quite a few people in line.
very interesting set. i think the set picture itself should’ve had the ice cream van in front of the building. it looks awkward floating with the trees in the white space lol.
If they can do BTS than i want, no demand a Jackson 5 set. This would be a cool lego theme/replace what vidiyo was supposed to be imagine your favourite bands turned LEGO and there's some far more iconic than BTS.
I would like to see you review this! It looks like a pretty straightforward build, but I'd like to see a full review regardless
I'm not a BTS fan but my mum is and she's 61, she follows them on the Internet nearly everyday. Will definitely buy this set though, it has got some old-school classic Legoland Town vibes to it especially with that 4-stud wide van 🙂
I don’t think the price is too bad. Good ratio of price to stuff I feel. Also, I’ve never seen anything BTS but I just watched the dynamite video and I get it now
I would love to get a similar thing with a wide variety of music and I'm sure that would happen or be considered depending on how well this dose.
7:45 there’s a gear under the stage that appears to be a play feature. Does it spin the singers as shown toward the end of the video clip you played?
I like the figs just for the different prints and hair pieces. That is all. I wouldn't want you to pain yourself building it but I think there could be useful parts you could use in your city so I am torn saying buy or don't buy. Thanks for your honest opinions always!
At 5:52, it looks like the stage contains a mechanism to make the figs "dance." I feel like that's added value. Maybe not the difference between $75 and $100, but something extra anyway.
Whilst I'm sure the BTS fans will buy this set (provided it is marketed to them properly), I foresee many instances where the minifigs with stage will be on display, the other bricks are sitting unused in the box, and the ruined stickers have gone in the trash.
6:12 "If you don't like it, that's okay, just accept it. It's a fact."
- Jang, spittin' facts
I think I may just get this set to make my own thing with it, that said i would like to see one of your reviews for it
Maybe Gnaj could buy and review it.
Ask him and see what he says.
I got this too even though I'm not really part of BTS Army. I am supporting the BlackPink Lego Ideas though. But yeah, I got this because this is a historical event as far as representation in Legos (Kpop and Asian). You're right with the stickers though, I wish it was actually printed on the bricks.
!haha, I acKTuaLly watched the Dynamite video to prepare for your thoughts video:) It was a whole new world. The set pretty much is what it is, very straightforward, and I feel that watching you build and review it would not give me any additional information, but you might get a whole slew of Kpop fans and their parents flooding into the Lego review channel to check it out. Thanks for your thoughts on the set!
Thanks for your review. Please buy the set so we can get a full and proper review. I'm surprised you didn't mention that the stage has gears in it and can move the figures. That's gotta account for something. Anyways, I hope this does super well so Lego will consider making set for other bands, including Twice.and N'Sync.
I just got that new A-Frame Cabin, and it’s missing 3 bags of parts, combined with this, I don’t even know where I stand with Lego right now.
Looks like there are gears beneath the stage? To make the minifigs dance?
Possibly opens up LEGO to a brand-new audience the set is spot-on from the music video which I also watched for the first time definitely not for me but appreciate the Lego ideas team expand into a new audience
For sets like these I really feel like Lego just needs to admit that almost everyone only cares about the figures. This could've easily been a half or a quarter of the price just with a tiny build
That song is nauseatingly catchy. I also watched the music video to understand this set, and I cannot get it out of my head.
Try watching some of their other music videos 💜 It’s nothing like this and some of it is incredibly beautiful (except butter and permission to dance- those are… just like this lol)
I noticed that it looks like there is gearing in the stage to actually make them spin.
Please do a review of it. It's 48 studs wide and nobody's talking about how much bigger it is than it looks. Also it has 14 new and exclusive face prints which is the most of any set ever
This set will definitely bring a lot of new potential Lego fans dipping into the K-Pop/BTS demographic. I feel like a lot of new lego fans (myself included) start with seeing something they are already a fan of made by Lego and buy it which then opens the flood gates to other lego sets. For me it was the UCS Batmobile Tumbler. I can imagine the BTS fanbase getting this set and going “Wonder what other Lego sets I might like?”
Due to it's simplicity it looks like it was built in the 90s to early 2000s and it should be priced accordingly, so I agree $40 to $50 dollars.
But LEGO inflation is also partially to blame for the $100 price tag.
no way they actually did this :o
Does it come with alternative torso and leg pieces in camouflage colours so you can transform the boys into their military service personae?
I feel like I can see this for $80. The reason why is because I just bought the Animal Rescue set with the white lion, and felt that the volume of stuff was kinda low for $100. So I can see this BTS set for $80. $100 is a but much.
Here are my thoughts. First, the elephant in the room, it’s overpriced for a LEGO set, HOWEVER if we consider the licensing deal, BTS needs to get their cut of the profits, and the set would likely have been $80 at LEAST on a good day where LEGO are feeling generous, and you also consider the special stickers, the new prints that are going to be limited time and not reused (thus wasting time on setting up the machine to do those prints for a limited amount of time only to never do those prints again), the possible limited time colors for certain pieces, and the price doesn’t seem all too illogical. LEGO is expensive. They need to make a profit at the end of the day. They have a lot of people to sign paychecks to, thus a lot of mouths to feed. Our issue should be quality control, how they decide which sets retire and which themes they focus on, as well as designs (such as the sudden increase of 5+ sets or sets that are so basic that older sets of similar piece counts or prices appear complex by comparison).
So the price is high, but understandable. Will I get it? Maybe not. It’s a nice sticker pack, part pack, and minifigure pack, but not for that price. If I were a BTS fan, then absolutely. This is clearly meant for them, so let them enjoy it. It’s a shame it’s expensive for them, especially for any that aren’t hugely into LEGO but love anything BTS, but that is the cost of hobbies and collecting.
As far as the set goes, it’s actually great. It feels like something you’d see in the Friends line or even in City as a set to buy with the Downtown Diner or Corner Garage. The fact that LEGO’s usual facade play set style works perfectly with film set facades is great! It reminds me of the sets based on the film sets of FRIENDS, The Office, and the others. The prints are fantastic, I love the new hair mound and hope it’s a permanent addition (more hair styles, LEGO, please! Also more faces would be great). The figures are compatible as any ordinary minifigure, and their parts are wonderful additions for any MOC builder or any LEGO city. The ice cream truck is a little odd in its compact design, but I get it, and the melted ice cream on top is a cute and clever build. The record shop and donut shop are a lot more fleshed out than what LEGO normally does with their facades, which is great and makes me almost want this set just to mod those two into one single Modular as connected shops for my city. Overall, the set is a nice one. It’s the price that’s the problem, but any God fearing individual wouldn’t curse LEGO for pricing it that way. It makes sense, I’m just not buying it. Hopefully it doesn’t flop, as that would be a shame for the designers, a waste of money and time for LEGO, and a loss for second place who could have had their IDEAS commission designed. That being said, if it happens to go on clearance in the future, I’ll be grabbing one for the parts, and one for my cousins who both love BTS but don’t have the $100 to throw at something so small.
Edit: Oh, and Jang, if you read this, my vote is that you shouldn’t bother reviewing it. The photos show plenty, and unless you would make good use of the parts and minifigure parts after filming the review, I doubt enough of your viewers would care all that much (at least from what the comments look like). BTS fans that would pay $100 for this are going to get it anyway, and see it first hand. Your review of the photos is plenty, so unless someone pays you to review it, you should just save your money. There may be a BTS LEGO fan out there who will review it instead, and they would have a more reliable understanding of everything about the band and set, for anyone who cares about any of that.
Just here to say that as buyers we shouldn't give a crap about licencing fees. Licencing is just a business deal between two multi-billion companies trying to negotiate percentages and maximize profits, not my problem. If they can't offer me a good product for a fair price then I just won't buy it, end of story.
IIRC LEGO distributes licensing costs across their full range of products. The only reason some sets are more expensive is because they believe people will pay more for certain products. It's like the Boba Fett or Spider-Man tax at Hasbro; they charge more for certain products because they know they can.
love the new hair pieces i can finally make an accurate sig fig as I have curtains.
Holy balls! Its Jang! From UltimateRC! Been a while since ive seen videos of yours!
I would like to have some of these stickered parts to use for other builds that I would like to have in my Lego town, like a proper record shop. But I don't think this set is for me really.
Because of you... I watched the music video! You're right, it fits the optic. I thing I heared the song on the radio in germany??? Sounds familiar. But! Is it a boyband? I'm confused...
Obviously this set won't be for me, but at the same time I'm not opposed to this set existing. If nothing else, a lot of these parts look really good for mocmaking. I guess my only concern is whether they'll be enough of this set in stock to meet demand and not sell out day 1.
Have heard of BTS but never saw their videos. So after this one, went to take a look and in the backdrop of their video all I could see were Lego bricks LOL - how the mind works :-) Guess it would be a great set for a BTS fan.
Lego twice next hopefully
Seems expensive for little more than a simple facade and a tiny truck. If it gets down to the price of #10291 Queer Eye, I may pick it up for the parts I suppose despite the overuse of stickers.
I'm not a K-pop fan, but I could imagine picking it up if it goes on clearance. I think it would fit fairly well in a city.
This sets not really for me kinda think it's hilarious that it exists. However I'm sure there's at least one person out there super happy about this so that's cool.
There will be more than one for sure, there's a lot of BTS fans
I think you will be surprised how many people (BTS after all has the biggest pop fandom in the world) would be super happy to own this. ☺️ Sure, it won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but it will definitely sell out. It might even introduce a whole new group of people who will discover the joy of owning and building Lego.
Loved this latest installment of "Jang tries to wrap his head around modern pop music"
investors and scalpers are going to go crazy over this set. if you think $100 dollars is bad just wait till these people try and get $500 dollars
I really need to see the sticker sheet for this. 😂
Looking at the amount of pieces and the very basic figures, this is a $60 set. Lego probably charges $1per sticker additionally. So a fairly reasonable price...
I am not a BTS fan, but did listen to K-pop back in 2012-2013, when it was a bit more niche in the western parts of the country. I am going to get this set, just to support the idea of LEGO and music working together.
Save your money Jang. Your thoughts from this preview video is enough since there is not much to this set. I’m not a BTS fan but I do like this Dynamite song. I’d buy the set if it was on a very steep discount but definitely not at full price given poor value. But I do hope this set does well so that it opens the gate for more non-traditional IPs with Lego like anime.
I did not know that ideas designers made a profit on the sets - I mean it makes sense! But is it proportional to how well the set sells or is it just a commission? Should I just start submitting loads of half baked ideas based on extremely popular properties?!?
Am I the only one who sees bts and forgets they're not a model of Cadillac between the Ats and Cts? Like some sporty version of the Eudm BLS
$99? Man, the figures are REALLY useful for MOCs, AND they got the Levi Ackerman hair.
I heard legos tweet about this set was their most liked tweet ever.
cool how the minifigs on the stage can dance
funny how it's easier to tell them appart in lego than in the actual video
It obviously isn't really for me, but it looks nice for BTS fans and Lego is going to make so much money off of this.
I could go for a Slayer concert set 🤘
You should buy it! it looks very interesting
Lol so random that they use that 2x2 radar tile with the blacktron blip from the Galaxy Explorer set for a record label in the store
Why didn't they use Vidyo prints in the record store?
They better make an Iron Maiden set to balance whatever this is out
I am so excited, my favourite Lego channel and my favourite KPOP group BTS in one video.
This set will be sold out in minutes, doesn't matter the price. If you want to buy I think you need to be the first one in.
I predict this will become a heavily discounted parts pack for 90% of the people who buy it, just like the Queer Eye set.
Jang Im actually getting this set as.a 4th generation famiy of BTS fans. Im an adult fan of lego and one of your patrons. Im a little upset about price point but ok for what it is. Ill be more then happy to lend you my set for review so you dont have to buy it. Jang also thank you for always doing your research before hand.
You should review this
Not my thing at all, but maybe this means there’s more of a chance now at getting a Daft Punk set, which is something I would definitely buy
I think you’d have to give this 2 reviews almost, one from a pure Lego build and one from a BTS fan Point of view - the obvious target market. Some of BTS are also well known for their own AFOLs & have Lego build streams.
I’m sure they’ll release the figures as keychains in a year or two
If Lego was going to use actual names like Rolling Stones, Spice Girls and now BTS, then why did they let Vidiyo fail by not tying it in with actual artists?
