Seriously as a Mozambican i have to give a HUGE THANK YOU, to Edmilson for not being afraid to tell everyone the real situation the country is in, many people have gotten serious consequences for it, democracy is truly a mirage. Thank you soo much for real content.
Means a lot, thank you! Edmilson is legend!

Democracy isn’t a mirage in most places.

@@Kachiko72do you guys have real heroin or is it fentanyl?
Being Brazilian, the people of Mozambique are a brotherly people. It saddens me to see so much misery and neglect by the government! But just like Brazilians, the people of Mozambique never give up!
Being Polish who bonded strongly with Brazilians during exchange semester in Paris I can tell that when visiting Mozambique, their vibe is strong, esp in comparison to depressed South Africa
Kkkkkkkkkkkkk
It always amazes me how people who don't pay taxes or dodge them however they can complain about a government. Who is funding that government to execute the plans they complain about? It's a neverending story.
@@plexoduss exactly and thats the biggest problem. there is no state without taxes, there is no fairness without taxes... most people are stupid and think the taxes are just gone... no you get the taxes back but indirectly. police, secutiry, firefighter, hospitals, streets etc etc...
Brazil isn't much better
Nick, I speak for many when I say we are happy you are back.
Thank you ❤
I’m from Mozambique and this video is great. Maputo has really amazing places but so much of it is neglected and in dire poverty. I just noticed though that in this video there’s a lot of mistranslation and miscommunication, and to be clear she does NOT earn $1.68 a month, that was completely miscommunicated. Even from what she says afterwards about her bills $10+ monthly, it doesn’t make sense and frankly no one earns that much, and it’s impossible to live on that a month. Almost all really low-income earners earn atleast $1.58 a day(3000mts a month), so I firmly believe that’s what she was referring to.
Thank you for clarifying. The UN defines "extreme poverty" as making less than $2.15/day, which approximately 9% of the world does. I knew there must've been some kind of mistranslation going on because $2.15/month doesn't make any sense whatsoever, even for the poorest countries on the face of the planet.
Também me pareceu que houve alguns erros de tradução.
I also agree, it's definitely not $1.58 a day
This guy is a clickbait king, he won't let some pesky facts get in the way of selling his videos.
There's a cut in the video after that question. She says esse lugar something, then I lost her. 100mt wouldn't buy the flour to bake bread for a living
I am from Maputo and watching this video was so emotional and I thank you for bringing an open third person perspective. @3:50 The guy in the wheelchair, I knew him. His name is Fernando, I met him a long time ago and throughout the years my mom became friends with him. It all started by bringing him water and food whenever we saw him. Then my mom helped him out however she could, with electricity bills and everything. One day he told my mom he was going to be a father, he met this young girl that loved him and they eventually married. My parents went to his wedding and the wheelchair he has now was their wedding gift. Thank you for bringing me the memory of this sweet sweet man. I learned so much with him
@ 3:36 ?
it would usually be the one pushing the wheelchair who'd talk, but that's actually pretty cool ngl.
@@wowowoweeee8156 yeah exactly that minute! Yeeah true his cousin would do most of the talking but he Fernando was able to speak in his little own way... truly amazing to just find this on youtube

Thank you! :)
I thought that only Venezuela was like that.
Venezuela is the most rich country in south America, with plenty of oil for everyone that makes them as rich as Saudi Arabia.
Yet they voted for the wrong government and people don't get anything.
All the money goes just to a few rich families.
Venezuela is the number one capitalist country.
All people poor, few people have all the money.
Now I see Mozambique..
Ehm.
So they have a lot of money for everyone but only few people get it and all the rest is poor .
Another capitalist paradise.
The people have to be really not intelligent if they serve a few rich people.
Its why they keep them drunk ..high & killing themselves! Its all part of the evil plan!
@@RasarelVenezuela? You mean the left wing centrally planned authoritarian Venezuela?

Thank you and great to be back!
I can’t say this makes me want to go there but it did leave me with a positive image of Mozambican people. Even in their hardships, they find smiles and kindness in their hearts.
The first guy being interviewed was a paid actor. Full set of teeth and as sober as a priest. If he was smoking weed laced with heroin two hours ago from the interview he'd be asleep. Or he wouldn't understand the questions due to be heavily sedated.
The "Black" Market isn't a black market. Black Markets aren't publicly available. That's not how it works. I'm sure there's loads more wrong with the video (haven't finished it) that I haven't seen yet. But this kiwi is a shiteater who's got a punchable face and vocals that deem him deserving of gang rape.
I was part of the crew that did the investigation drilling up north in Palma in 2011 for the gas plant and it was a real shock when I heard what happened as it was a quiet and peaceful town but as always when industries gets into a town like that it always brings the good and the bad with it. Having driven all over Mozambique for work from south to north, east to west i realy fell in love with the country it has truely wonderful places on top of the not so good places. With my travel's I found the people of Mozambique to be wonderful and extremely helpful people.

I really love how you treat everyone you speak to with respect, despite of their background. Also, I've been waiting for you to go to Mozambique, so I'm SO excited for this series. I don't know what happened to the Save the Children chapter there, but they suddenly wrote me one day and switched my sponsorship to a child in Niger (who is also great). @@IndigoTravelleri couldn’t honestly say I truly understand. I live a simple life in an off grid cabin surrounded by nature. A few milk goats , a pack of dogs, and little to complain about. People who know some of the painful things I’ve gone through in life sometimes send me messages of sympathy. I laugh and send them a video from you. Some panicked mothers and malnourished babies with flies on their faces. Beautiful women selling themselves and men so overwhelmed they abandoned their families. I don’t cry often but I usually do watching these videos. I wish I could adopt a whole village of these children. For yourselves being totally immersed in this country after country, it must be like getting spiritually beaten . The good thing is you actually help them, so I pray for blessings upon you brother.

Man, as a Brazilian, this hits me hard. The BR and Portuguese governments should be helping more through the cplp agreement, but we all know how burocratic this things get. Muito amor e abraços para todo o Moçambique!
I am Portuguese and I totally agree with you. It is not fair that one of the countries with the largest gas reserves in the world is so corrupt and does not make its people benefit from it. Portugal and Brazil, with their international influence, should push for this to change. But, for obvious reasons, Portugal has to be careful and cannot meddle in their domestic politics. Really breaks my heart to see that people live in this conditions. Um abraço a todos os irmãos e irmãs da CPLP.
Ajudar a minha PIKA isso é da conta deles! Tanto o Brasil quanto Portugal tem que cuidar do seu próprio povo
@@NB-yt9ew Governments are always crazy. Huge gas reserves and seaside for tourism could make enough money for these people to live good, the rest comes easy.
It did in the past, when Maputo didnt exist and was called Lourenço Marques. Now, it is a shadow of it's former self, the old jewel of africa is gone.

Small correction; Without context this quote is very false. Democracy in places where democracy is actual democracy is not a mirage (some corruption more or less will always exist in all countries, so that can be taken out of the equation), but in countries like Mozambique democracy is definitely a mirage.
