Step by step instructions on how to take apart the VR Set. This will help you with any repair requiring opening the device and replacing parts.
If you can't fix your laptop you can sell it to us sellbroke.com/sell-broken-vr-...
Recommended process: Remove the two headband brackets first, then cut the sewn portion on the bottom where the cover is joined. Use a heat gun to help remove the entire fabric cover. Once this is off you will have easy access to the screws and covers holding the headset together. Usually the best process is found after the first disassembly, so you will have to jump ahead in the video to find the removal process for the headband. - Věda a technologie
Had to repair my Quest today. Your video is really detailed and helpful. It's impossible to find any other info on the Quest repair online. Thank you.
No problem, glad it helped.
mine won’t take any charge
U know repairing quest is much more harder than knowing how to disassemble it.
@@0509080190 I would say that SellBroke is really trying to show us how to execute this difficult task at hand, so rather than giving him a hard time, perhaps thank him for his time.
Been waiting years for someone brave enough to do this procedure 🥴🥴 thank you 👍👍 you made my day and new subscriber 👍👍
Mistake you made was not taking the head strap out ASAP. Gets more access to the plastic :)
Of course, the first time you take something apart you learn these things.
@@Sellbrokedotcom PLEASE rename video - to WARN ppl NOT to cut the cover at least!!!
if you remove one side of the strap -2 screws only .that enough to keep the cover intact.
NO NEED TO CUT ANYWHERE AT ALL.
also you dont need to take out the bottom part at all.22:20
you can rip another cable or damage its slot if you do so.
just remove the 2 screws , leave where it is.
@SellBroke DO THAT MAN!
Thank you very much for this video. I was wondering if I could just take out all the fabric to make it more light weight, clean and more ventilated. Cheers!
Good to see that the USB port (+cable) is easy to remove and possibly to replace. Very handy when Quest has a broken USB C port.
Do you know the part # or something of it to order?
i need to do just that, but this thing is freaking hard to dissasemble
Thanks for sharing this! Would have really loved to get a better look at the battery and any numbers that were on it though. Thanks
To remove the headstrap without dissasembly, there are two clips with wide open slots on the inside of the headstrap assembly. Feed the first bit of the strap through the front hole as far as you can, then depress on the holes and gently begin to pull. It should start freeing itself fairly easily.
The tech in there is amazing
Awesome video! How did you go about removing the velcro on the side brackets? On my Quest, the right side bracket for the headband is popping loose, and I need to see if tightening the screws will fix it.
That is def a pandoras box of mini problems. I am glad you are doing it, too bad there isn't an easy wifi antenna extension hack through the faceplate. its nice to know how and where everything is. TY
52:37 Well, not LCD, but OLED
Can it function without the fabric covering? Does it serve any structural integrity purposes or light blocking purposes?
Greate video, thanks! Not much information on repairment Oculus Quest. In my case headset is just hanging in 5-10 minutes (or restart)... (((
Any ideas what to check first? And where get the replacement parts?
Same here....my quest battery got down to 3.4v and wouldn't charge, it appears to pulse at ~17mA but even left overnight would not recover. disassembled top cover only to access battery plug and force charged it to 4.1v, then reassembled and all is good now. Cutting the top fabric made it a breeze. Must remember to leave my quest attached to a charge lead!. Many many thanks.
Yeah, I'd imagine cutting the fabric cover is NOT that big of a deal for ease of access.
Great you were able to jump start the batt. I'm guessing you have a reconditioned?
I'm here in 2023 because my Quest 1 battery isn't giving me the play time it used to. I'm amazed by the tech and design of this headset, and now find myself wondering how soon AI powered design and manufacturing will take our tech and miniaturisation to whole new levels.
Never really thought about it like that
now put it back together! :)
Thanks. Looks like a real bastard to take apart. I'm getting a fan disabled error, bit of a worry.
Great I was looking to repaste the cpu on a quest.
Just wanted to add 1 note the correct torque size is actually a t6 the t5 will work but t6 is the size that fits the best.
Questions, I bought your charge port and to be honest I skimmed the video to get an idea on what I was gona have to do but we had a baby in the in between so I still haven't watched the full video or had time to work on it yet. Can anyone tag some key points of the video? I found the comment about the head strap and want to try to figure that out first. Any help is appreciated greatly.
Wow i wasn't expecting it to be so complicated on the inside
can you show how to fix the voice audio on the head sets
you suld take apart the oculus quest 2 next
Or the 3 now lol
yah lol@@KingTwizz
Came here to see if I could lighten-up Q1.
I'm thinking of removing completely the cloth cover,
and moving the battery to the back of the headset strap, or even onto my waist belt.
Not sure if removing the front panel and the fan would do any big of a difference in comparison to the protection and heat dissipation they provide.
3:23 actual work begins
4:38 work continues
7:30 work continues
10:40 work continues
Will update soon.
I just want to know one thing...Can I swap my Quest 2 strap out for my Quest 1 strap?
Where can I buy the front cameras?
I tried to repair a Quest 1 that doesnt charge nor boot. I used your video to open the Quest and disconnected the cable to the battery, hoping that I was able to boot the Quest. Sadly no luck. I did check the power usage when the battery is connected and it uses 0,12 watt constant. (not enough to charge the battery) Pushing the power button while battery is connected does not do anything and power use is still 0,12 watt.. I then reconnected the battery and noticed that pushing the power button and/or the + and - volume buttons also showed the Quest using some power. it jumped from 0,1 watt to 1,1 watt and everything in between. But still no screen/boot.... Anyhow, I guess my quest is beyond repair, so i'll keep it for spare parts for my 2 other (working) Quest 1 headsets. Anyhow, thanks for posting this video.
I’d like to know if they are able to expand memory at all?or upgrade to solid state memory for faster workings
No, neither the Quest or Quest 2 have upgradable storage/memory of any sort. You're stuck with whatever it's got.
The Quest already has solid state memory (SDHC) :) It ain't got a hard drive spinning in there, that's for sure.
Is it easy to replace a broken lens on oculus
quick question, does anyone know where i can find spare parts like lenses with
displays?
That's what I'm wondering
Oculus Quest 1 Headset Battery Replacement, where can i get the full new original battery for my headset?
Probably nowhere... You can always just get a battery pack and put it on the back so it provides some extra balance as well.
is the wire coming out of the front cover matter ?
You mean the wire for the face sensor? I would imagine so.
It's a proximity sensor or a photo sensor. If you disable it the quest won't come out of standby or function.
Really needed to get one of the headset strap connectors off, but you put that off until almost the end and then didn't do it. :). Do those things come off?
Sorry! On the first disassemble of anything complicated, you find the best way AFTER you learn. Yes they do, you have to peel back the velcro to get to the little fastener holding it on.
@@Sellbrokedotcom awesome. So they are removable from the outside without having to have it totally apart? Of course Oculus doesn’t have any service parts so that knowledge only helps if I can 3d print something.
@@stevenpalm9484 After you have removed the velcro part, the strap connectors are hold to the headset by 2 screws. they are inside the circle (that can be seen behind the velcro strap). Unscrew and it can be removed. Very easy to do.
Hello.
Are there common errors and their causes?
My Quest 1 can no longer be switched on.
Even after several hours on the USB charger, this is not possible and the status LED is never on.
What do i do my parents took my vr i went to get it a couple days later and water dripped out of it alot
what about the quest 2
So I'm wondering its sealed but I see a cooling fan so the hot air where it's going?
@Adam's cars and stuff 2 you sure about that?
I figured it just exhausted to the face side.
It is only fabric.
This is why I figured Kiwi design made their face bracket vented... 🤷🏻♂️
where is the battery?
Next do a repair on a Oculus Quest 2! That would be very popular! 🤔
On Quest 2 battery replacement is a nightmare ! 😢
I know this is an old video, but of someone can PLEASE respond with an answer. For some reason my quest 1 will power on and play the music as well as work as it should. I can get a few minutes of game play and then it goes black for a while. It does this constantly.
Also, the left controller was dropped and cracked right in the center of the ring right between the oculus logo. Any help out there?
Just thought you might like to know those are amoled displays , not lcd. Quest is led, but a full panel. Also the word preface is pronounced
" prehfuss". Not being condescending, as Im 45 and I only found that out last year. Lol.
uuuugh, I'm 49 and only found that out right now :/
there is a video of how to remove the lenses? I have a lens defect that needs to be removed and polished
есть видео как снять линзы? у меня дефект линзы, нужно снять и отполировать
I’m the same , I have cleaned my lenses but on the inside there is smudges I can’t get too and is very irritating when going on it
@@joshchannel3389 how the heck did smudges get on the inside of the lens face?
@@BendApparatus no idea 😔
@@joshchannel3389 damn, I imagine your only recourse would be to scavenge a lens module from for parts defective set or a 64gb headset only from eBay.
mine were the same. now more than 2 years old I thought I might just try to remove them, if that fails well at least I still have the reverb g2 but it would be such a shame.
That’s the second oculus 2 it’s got cameras or sensors on it
I just broke my oculus quest 2 and there is a line going across when I look inside what do I do because I have bad anxiety and I had a freak out I am currently weighting this while having the freak out
The Quest 2 uses a single LCD panel, so it might just be going bad or damaged from a drop. I know it's easier to tear down than the original, just go for it what do you have to lose? There are videos for it on CZcams.
If you do anything, make a video !!!!
holy crap I just want to get to the battery xD
I was thinking on replacing thermal paste and dust cleaning my oculus
I now think that dust is part of my Oculus
FYI the Quest 2 does actually have a mechanical IPD adjustment. It's just not continuous like Quest 1 but limited three discrete settings. Here is a video showing a user adjusting it.
czcams.com/video/xnfuMcakBEw/video.html
Those aren't really 100% mechanical, they use a single LCD now instead of two individual screens that can slide apart. The lenses just aim at different portions of the LCD when they slide. This is one of the many cost-cutting features to get it down to the $299 price point.
@@Sellbrokedotcom It's mechanical. The lens physically move and that's the really important part of an IPD adjustment. You can slide what is being displayed to the screen in software to compensate for the screen not actually moving. That has the same outcome as moving the screen with the lens. The only downside to a single screen is you won't have optimal panel utilization because when you move the lens there are parts of the screen you can no longer see. So you either have variable FOV (which is what the Quest 2 does) or have larger parts of the screen that go unused than if you used two displays.
The Rift S and some of the WMR headsets use a purely software IPD where the lens can't physically move at all.. Quest 2 has a physical IPD it's just not a continuous adjustment.
@@Wescotte1st "That has the same outcome as moving the screen with the lens" That's not what I heard from multiple Q2 users. The screen is centered for the middle IPD setting so if you use the biggest IPD setting you will see nothing at the edges of the screen, as far as I understand it can be quite annoying. Headsets with real mechanical IPD (screen moving with the lenses) don't have that issue.
@Alternity666 It's still a proper (albeit slightly limited) mechanical IPD adjustment. Yes, because it uses a single screen the max possible FOV is artifically narrowed for setting #2 and #3. However, not everybody actually notices the reduction as it's depdeant on your face shape and how close you can get your eyes to the lens.
You are correct no other headsets have this specific issue where FOV is linked to IPD but it's not super uncommon to see the edge of the screen on other headsets regardless of IPD. So it's not like this horrible flaw only Quest 2 suffers from. If you hate seeing the edge of the screen you can simply insert the glasses spacer (or use a thicker foam insert) to move your eyes slightly further away from the lens preventing you from seeing it.
Yeah, Quest 2's IPD has limitations compared to two screens with a continous IPD but it's not that bad... Certainly much better than no mechanical IPD at all and there are plenty of headsets out there with no mechanical IPD at all. The Oculus Rift S, Oculus Go, PSVR, and most WMR headsets (exception being Samsung Oddyssy and HP Reverb) all use software only IPD adjustments.
For people who fall outside of the optimal IPD on those headsets it's not a matter of less FOV it's they can't really use the headset at all. Palmer Lucky (The creator of the Oculus Rift) wrote a blog on how he can't even use the Rift S because it lacks an IPD adjustment.
palmerluckey.com/i-cant-use-rift-s-and-neither-can-you/
@@Wescotte1st I have used a low quality WMR headset with a very small IPD (54 using the first gen of the HP WMR headset), I know all about how it sucks, but it still was useable, I wouldn't say that I couldn't use it. I was still a top10 player in Audica, a game where aiming is extremely important for scoring, using this headset.
I was merely correcting that the Quest 2 IPD system is not the same outcome as the normal IPD system where the screen moves with the lenses, saying that is a false statement, according to a lot of people who did experience both the Q1 and Q2.
Just looked for this to confirm I heard a fan
Bro you stressing me out by undoing it all with just the bit like isn’t it fiddly enough
Stopped at the ribbon... Im just trying to fix my right earpiece.
Huh, so the Quest 1's lenses are each attached to half a screen, where the Quest 2 lenses are facing a single full screen. Interesting.
I don’t understand why not take the strap off at begging?
31:39 Meeeow ^^
