    I think waist is cintura o talle and hip is cadera, but maybe since it is in the same area they could be used interchangeably? Thank you so much for your videos, they are great help!

      @hiko77 Před 2 lety +3

      The etymology of “cintura” comes from Latin “cinctura”, meaning, to hold with a belt (cinto/faja, ceñir (verb)). However, the area that “holds” the belt is actually the hip, called in medical terms “cintura pélvica” (which is not used in regular settings). That is why most of the time the common rendition (in terms of medical reference) for cintura is “cadera”, since it is the pelvic area that can “support” a belt. Cintura is also fine and less common.

      @hiko77 Před 7 měsíci +2

      Allow me @zuletacuna7293 to clarify in terms of medicine: many people do not know the difference between common referential terms. The etymology of waist comes from the Old English term /wæstm/, meaning “middle part of the body”. As such, this area corresponds exactly to the hips (by the context), since this area controls the transversal plane. As a matter of fact, the Latin word for “cintura” (cinctura) has a totally different correlated English word, which is “girdle”, meaning, the part of the abdomen situated between the torax and the hip (a totally different area). I know this might sound new to you, but when you really check many etymological medical terms, you will find that most of them do not correspond to the actual usage that is given in Spanish. This is one of the main issues linguists are correcting right now in RAE (Real Academia Española). I hope this simple explanation satisfies your inquiry. :)

      @Caribe78 I would appreciate you do not make judgements against my knowledge. The fact I had a minor mistake in terms of patella does not entitle you to say how little I know. Second: learn how to punctuate right in Spanish. Third: I checked your profile and it seems your orthography is very bad on several different places. Please be more respectful for this channel :)

      Please sir Jose do not write more reaction comments. This is not professional nor look good. Making an error is natural, and human. Everyone does. There is no need to offend the other persons orthography this is not respectful. Please be mindful. This is not a correctness or perfection battle. This platform is here to share knowledge and be respectful. Thank you! @hiko77
