This is a Van Morrison song, The Band brought in all their fav's and friends for the Last Waltz and did play lots of other's songs...Van, Dylan, Clapton, Joni Mitchell, Muddy Waters, Neil Diamond, Ringo, Neil Young...kind of astonishing really! Van Morrison started out as jazz/blues sax player, so if you go down that rabbit hole, the pacing and instrumentation and poetry and his voice are all a freakin' treat!

Van is THE Man! This song is totally his, and I think that most all of the guest artists do their own stuff. This whole concert kicks ass, and I have seen it at least a hundred times. When it came out our local theater had midnight showings every Friday, plus we had it on VCR. Remember VCR? 😅 This is one of my absolute fave Van Morrison performances. It really shows his passion. Huge fan! This song is on his Moondance album, almost every song is great!
This song was written by Van Morrison, I think all of the guests are performing their own songs at this concert. You should do the Dylan songs.

Van Morrison moved to Woodstock shortly after Dylan and The Band. They sort of hung out together around there.

Just a tip if anyone else is singing from The Last Waltz it is that singers song. If The Band has the lead singer it is The Bands song.

Actually they got back together in the mid-1980s and recorded three more albums, but Robbie Robertson didn't rejoin.

@@bella-xp7qd "Jericho" in 1993, "High on the Hog" in 1996, and "Jubilation" in 1998. The first of these is the strongest and is definitely recommended. "Hog" is weak but "Jubilation" is not bad. (Richard Manuel did rejoin but died before these albums were released. However he made a posthumous appearance on the first two of these.)

The Last Waltz is epic, but it doesn't really do Richard Manuel much justice. Richard is easily one of the most underrated singers in rock history.
In the Last Waltz' performance of "I Shall Be Released" Richard only sings one verse, but he cuts deeper than anyone else on that song.
