And to think of the skill and versatility of The Band knowing how to back each of the legends that came to play with them that night. The musicality was simply unmatched.
This is so outstanding, an amazing performance from 1976, while making the concert film, The Last Waltz, featuring Eric and The Band. A collaboration of extremely talented musicians, having a fun time and making a masterpiece of great Rock and Roll. 🎶🎶🎶 Delightful. Groovy and great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Scott. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
The greatest backing Band in the history of the 11 dimensions of space out there ! Their musicality to this day is unmatched . There's no one could hold a candle to The Band as far as brilliant musicianship is concerned ...no one !
Thank you Harri for this wonderful reaction to the Band and Eric Clapton. The “ Last Waltz” is considered the best Music movie/documentary ever, directed by the great Martin Scorsese. Most of the music legends were present, from the Staples, Muddy Waters, Dr. John, Neil Young, Van Morrison, Joni Mitchell, Ringo Starr, Emmylou Harris, Paul Butterfield, Ronnie Wood, Ronnie Hawkins, etc,,, to the Band of course with Bob Dylan and his Rock’n’Roll kick ass song : “Baby let me follow you down” just after “ Forever Young” and the finale with all guests artists singing “ I shall Be Released”.
Well not exactly, Clapton went to Woodstock to meet with The Band. When he introduces Robbie into the Rock and Roll Hall of fame, he confessed he actually went there to ask to become a member, but didn't have the nerve to ask. Thats when Robbie was wondering did he want to take his place or was he suggesting 2 lead guitarist. Clapton never answered.
Eric got his wish for a night and joined The Band! this is all part of one of the single greatest nights in Rock & Roll..........The Last Waltz these days Eric gets that look when he's either watching or on stage with Derek Trucks.
a lot of great music in that movie of the band. (that was Muddy Waters leaving the stage before Clapton) Also Dylan, Joni Mitchel, Neil Young, Van Morrison, Dr. John, and of course , The Band
At around 02:30 of your video you can see Robbie catch a big residual sniff followed by a euphoric head shake and WOW did Marty ever bring the good stuff! Kid in a candy store indeed
Both Eric and Robbie used music as an escape. Of course they were both talented beyond belief. Both had less than ideal childhoods. Robbie grew uo with a very physically abusive stepfather, he would beat Robbie, Robbie's dog (which Robbie never forgave him for) and his mother. Robbie wrote in his book, I would escape to my room and listen to and play musci, my isolation felt good to me. When he was 13 his mother had enough of the abuse and divorced Jim Robertson that is when Robbie learned his real dad, who was killed before Robbie was born, was Jewish, Robbie's mother was Mohawk and Cayuga. Eric Clapton grew up thinking his grandparents were his parents, and his his uncle was his brotheer. When, I think as a teenager, he was aware of who his real mother was, he asked her if he could call her Mom, and she answered, we better leave things the way they are, he was very hurt by that, he had half siblings, and felt very rejected, although he loved his grandparents and felt they did the best the could, and I think they were supportive of his musical ambitions. Robbie stepdad was not, but his mother was and later on when Robbie got a job playing with Ronnie Hawkins, some of the guys would stay at Robbie's mother's house, she charged reasonable rates and apparently she was quite a cook. His stepfather told him, when Robbie talked about his ambitions, 'that don't happen to people like us", Robbie resented that, had it not been for his mother's encouragemeent we might not have know of Robbie Robertson! Although I do believe music was so much in his soul he would have found a way one way or the other.
I saw a video of a concert with Stevie Ray Vaughan. A guitar string broke on him and an assistant came in with a whole new guitar and strapped it on him and SRV never missed a beat.
I watched Clapton play with Mark Noffler. Mark soloed and got that same look, right before Clapton blew him away. EC cutting heads in the finest Muddy Waters tradition.
The irony of this is Clapton once inquired about joining The Band. Robbie's response at the time was 'what would I be doing then?' Obviously it didn't happen, but guessing Robbie felt a little threatened by that at the time.
Eric Clapton went to visit The Band when they were living in Woodstock, in the Big Pink house. He was with Cream at the time, and when he heard The Band, it blew him away, he wanted to join them. However, when he visited he never got up the nerve to ask Robbie, it was only years later when he introduced Robbie into the Rockin Roll Hall of Fame that he told Robbie. Robbie then asked did you want to replace me or did you think there were room for us both according to Robbie Eric never answered.d
My favorite part of this performance is when Clapton’s strap comes undone and Robbie notices it, and without missing a beat starts to play his own solo, which is far superior to anything Clapton can play, and Clapton’s expression is like, “oh shit!”
wild guess that's the drummer of the Eagles, hmm but the drummer was the singer on Hotel California, and i probably know his face and it's not him. "The Band's drummer and vocalist Levon Helm" Well he toured with Joe Walsh of The Eagles or Eagles, so i'm not totally stupid, ok i am.
i asked chatGPT to name who Levon worked with - Bob Dylan Eric Clapton Ringo Starr Ronnie Hawkins and The Hawks Neil Young Van Morrison Muddy Waters John Hiatt Dr. John Emmylou Harris Lucinda Williams Warren Zevon The Allman Brothers Band Johnny Cash Roger Waters Willie Nelson The Black Crowes Los Lobos Jakob Dylan Steve Earle
Again, as i have said before 70s stuff doesnt give a true representation of claptons ability, he is drunk. It is what it is, however it wasnt that bad on this occassion.

When it comes to playing , Clapton isn't stingy on stage . He lets everyone have their own part .
Simple beat, simple riffs, simple vocals yet it gets you outta your chair.
The Last Waltz by the group *The Band* was a great show!
Eric loves when he shares the stage with an equal guitar player and often smiles while watching them play
Eric looked a big chuffed after one of Robbie's solos
This was a highlight in a show of highlights. You can hear the audience losing their minds during Clapton's solo at the end.
Eric drifted through the 1970s pretty much drunk. But this performance showed that he still had it.
He pulled out the God status if jus 4 one moment in the 70s heroin drunken period of Clapton.
If you have t checked out Eric Clayton’s Crossroads festival videos, they are a must-see!!! So many guitar greats on the stage!!
every performance on the last waltz is worth a reaction. go on give it a go.
Scott - This was an awesome submission featuring Eric Clapton playing with The Band on their final performance. Bravo! Great review, Harri.
Got to see him in concert....and my stub ticket is in a frame on my bookcase for all to see

Love this concert/movie so much! Eric truly wanted to join the Band, but Robbie was like, well what am I gonna do then? 😂😂😂

How about just doing the whole movie start to
finish? Haven’t seen anyone do that yet, and why not? It’s that good!
Fantastic! I heard him in a interview The Band was a dream of his to play with.
He wanted to join the band at big pink when was invited there but was too shy to ask.
a lot of great music in that movie of the band. (that was Muddy Waters leaving the stage before Clapton) Also Dylan, Joni Mitchel, Neil Young, Van Morrison, Dr. John, and of course , The Band
To me this was the ultimate concert.
I wore out so many VHS tapes! 😅

An amazing performance from Clapton! Also, check out the The Muddy Waters performance.
Love, love this. They are so into the music. Really warms my heart to watch.
The Last Waltz. Fantastic Gig. Eric Clapton Enough Said 🪴🌄🐴
eric wanted to join the band and he got it for one great nite

And Leon bashin' the skins!
Levon.
@@chitownlee lol yeah him too!
Peak drugged up and drunk Clapton and he still played like a demon
Thank you, Harri, for posting my request of this moment in rock history - and on my birthday!
Scott 😊
Happy birthday buddie! 🖤✌🏾🍾🎂
Hope you had a Wonderful Birthday Scott. 🎈🎈🎊🎊🎁🎁
Happy Birthday Scott. A tad late.
This is some “full-potency “ Blues.

When Rory Gallagher would snap a Guitar String when playing live, he would actual change the String while still playing Guitar and Tune it up.
.
I saw a video of a concert with Stevie Ray Vaughan. A guitar string broke on him and an assistant came in with a whole new guitar and strapped it on him and SRV never missed a beat.
Too bad SRV didn't play at this.
Also there is a live video of eric gale from stuff tuning his guitar in mid solo which is is impressive
I watched Clapton play with Mark Noffler. Mark soloed and got that same look, right before Clapton blew him away. EC cutting heads in the finest Muddy Waters tradition.
Eric Clapton is my foremost guitar influence, but it isn't likely that he would be capable of blowing the likes of Mark Knopfler off any stage.
@@TheNoncritical1 It was at Claptons anniversary concert in 87, and yes he did. I was there.

You should hear Clapton whoop it up when Duane Allman plays on their "Key to the Highway" song from Layla.
This is at the height of Clapton's two bottles of vodka a day, coke and god knows what!
Harri you're right, smoking 🔥.
Your *a star Bro I'm 65 yrs old and heard it all lol
Same here.......65 yrs. old and been to a lot of concerts over the years.
My favorite part of this performance is when Clapton’s strap comes undone and Robbie notices it, and without missing a beat starts to play his own solo, which is far superior to anything Clapton can play, and Clapton’s expression is like, “oh shit!”
When Clapton shares the stage with Great guitarist, He Never tries to Upstage. Buddy Guy Always Pushes and Pushes him to Let Loose lol
they started as Bob dylan backing band
Ronnie Hawkins first.....
We shouldn't overlook Rick and his guitar playing, or Levon on drums.
R. I . P : Robbie
you need to river of tears live
