Pure Music Hall. Love her. She was very badly treated in her last years (by the media and the business) who identified her as being unprofessional and badly behaved. It is quite clear she suffered from dementia, and it’s a shame she was dismissed at the end of her career in that way. She was a unique talent. No to everyone’s taste and not always served brilliantly on TV, but even in some poor vehicles she shines.
Sad to hear she suffered from dementia! Really???? Are you sure my friend!? Hugely funny 😄 though!!! Especially compared to the so called comedy of 2022 😡🤷♀️🥰🥰
I agree. I think people are so miserable today because a large number grew up hearing nothing but how special they are, how they know all and are never, can never be mistaken or wrong, and how entitled they are. Then they venture out into the real world and are given a high six figure job as CEO, or something similar befitting their person, are told they actually have to show up at certain times and do actual work throughout the day, in fact nobody is handing them anything they want when they want it because they want it. No one IS TREATING THEM AS SPECIAL AS THEY ARE!!! Worse they're far too stupid to figure out why. So they just never leave home where they're treated as they are convinced they deserve and demonstrate for communism and ANTIFA on the streets, as well as best people up--as long as they are defenseless old women they outnumber 6 to 1 or so, those 80 year old women can be vicious after all you know...
whelkshuffler I grew up watching Hilda and what a giggle we had as a family, I’m also watching nearest and dearest. Can’t get enough of our Hilda...always cheers me up....
At least 60's/70's. kids didn't end up covered in tattoos and piercings with weird body modifications! That lot's gonna jangle when they walk down the nursing home corridors when they get old! When those tatts go all faded and the skin starts drooping it's gonna be a right mess. They'll be screaming at their Android nurses for some medical marijuana to go with their kale and quinoa .You know their grand kids are going to laugh at their photo albums!
Theres a lesson to be learnt at the end. Never let useless wicked people het you down. I like how she bounced back. Love that song. Lyrics and music by hylda baker
I remember this the first time round and it's still very funny. Everyone got insulted and made fun of, black, gay, the womaniser etc...... And that's the point, back in the day we were all the butt of jokes because we all have characteristics that comedians can use as material. In effect we were laughing at others but also ourselves too. Note Hylda even did the big t*ts joke woman to woman. She was very clever, I doubt there are many actors who could pull off such a performance today. I'm sure some people will be offended but you have to remember, these were some of the first TV shows which actually had gay characters on a TV show. It was opening up cultures which had existed for centuries and putting them in popular entertainment. Great to see this again.
Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view!" Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam." Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!" Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..." Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!" Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky." Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction." Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment ?"
"This is The Brown Cow speaking!". Love Hylda. This used to play late on Tuesday nights on Sydney television in the early 70's. Loved it as a kid...even more now.
I absolutely loved Hylda's kind of humour, her constant innuendo's and using the wrong words in her sentences. This was non PC comedy at its best. r.i.p. Hylda, Sadly missed
those wrong words were malapropismsˈmaləprɒˌpɪz(ə)m/nounnoun: malapropism; plural noun: malapropisms; noun: malaprop; plural noun: malapropsthe mistaken use of a word in place of a similar-sounding one, often with an amusing effect (e.g. ‘dance a flamingo ’ instead of flamenco ).

So first we had Walter in nearest and dearest, and Gilbert in this series with none speaking parts. Both great characters who didn't have to worry about remembering their lines. Hylda was just Hylda, hilarious and lovely at the same time.

Classic British comedy used to be a delight to behold! Hylda Baker is brilliant! And what about "gorgeous Gilbert" in his tight leather pants? ...... He'll be a pensioner now! 😂😂😂
Happy memories of my late mum laughing her head off whenever Gilbert appeared wearing some weird outfit. "What have you come as today, Gilbert? {Gilbert does a twirl}. Ooh, you're one of those, are you?" I was too young to understand what was going on but I enjoyed mum's laughter.
