We had the same cooker, Parkinson Cowen Prince one. Bought in 1969 and was still going strong in 2011 when i sold the old family home. When Britain could make stuff that lasted. And it still looked like new.

You're lucky. I had a cooker from even earlier mid Sixties still going strong. Then a gas man came to install new energy meters. Took one look at my cooker and said by law he will have to cut it off. He said my cooker is a fire and safety hazard. I told him it's been in my family for over 50 years with no problems. He said it doesn't matter and disconnected all connecting pipes.

When built in 1938, the Quarry Hill flats were very desirable modern living. They were inspired by the The Karl Marx-Hof flats in Vienna. The development was noted for its radical and modern features included; solid fuel ranges, electric lighting, a state-of-the-art refuse disposal system and communal facilities.
By the time this program was made in the early 1970's, the flats had become very grubby and looked the worse for wear. They were demolished in 1978.
Most of the buildings in the first panorama shot have long since gone. The old bus station, and the old stalls in the outside market area e.t.c.

Kudos, k_ow, for this splendid upload. Not only Diana Doors dominates the proceedings from the moment she appears with her charisma and perfect timing but the supporting cast is excellent with names who would become famous years later, such as the nemesis who wants to evict them (she'd later play Ivy Tilsley in Coronation Street where the actor who played Alf already had an important role). And the actress who played Nora in Last of the Summer Wine. The scenes filmed outside in the streets show exceptionally good camera work for any sitcom from the 70's. Pity that series one coincided with the television cameramen strike which forced all the other S01 episodes to be filmed and videotaped in black and white. A treasure nevertheless, very funny in many places, thank you.

Yes I am still alive. I am Brian Marshall who played Bunny. I had a great time as a stand up comedian touring with Cliff ,Cilla Johnny Mathis etc and did loads of TV stuff. I eventually became an agent and scriptwriter and represented Wayne Sleep and Sheila Ferguson from the Three Degrees, I also devised Get Your Own Back which was a very successful kid's programme for the BBC. Also wrote the TV series for the Krankies and Keith Harris. I retired with neck Cancer but was clear for 8 years and then it came back but I am now clear again!! Cant keep a good man down! I now run and own a Care Agency with my wife and Director Gillian Marshall called Marshall Homecare limited. Its is very successful and my showbiz days seem like a completely different life. I had great fun making Queenies Castle and the cast and crew were a delight to work with. I have not had any contact with any of them once the series ended.

Another ITV show that must have looked desperately outdated on first showing. Setup and script straight out of 50s rep theatre, written with Peggy Mount in mind by the look of it.

Thanks for this upload, a rare show! Unfortunately this breaks the cardinal rule of a comedy show, make it funny, people just want to laugh! I really appreciate the point of difference here, but I think this was/is just too challenging to watch, it actually reminds me of 'Bread', but not as well written not as well made & with less sympathetic characters. What a shame, another star vehicle failure for Dors, she deserved better. Amazing that it got passed series 1!!
