This STI Is Why Clean Old Subaru WRX STIs are Expensive....

- This specific 2007 STI is the definition of why clean examples cost so much. I am happy to see that we are making some good forward progress and unclapping this car. Things have come a decent way since we snagged it. Also hyped to see that it is headed to the Dyno next week to make some sauce and become a spicey little unit for what it is!

Been watching from the beginning of this 07 STI build and it’s so nice seeing it this close to being done 🔥🔥
Hyped to get this thing to 100% and just enjoy it 🔥
The STI wing makes the rear end look so good though...at least now you can include yourself in my two biggest gapplebees fears, wingless Evos, and Wingles GDs.
Saying that though I will be buying an STI wing ASAP
I avoid wingless evos like the plague 😂
Next time tie a piece of wire or string to the old one before you pull it through
Tbh that’s actually really smart idea 😅
I have a snake reeling tool to save time. 2005-2009 Have the bad wiring issue too thin and snap.
Facts. I go back and forth about selling my 05. I just hit 100k and I know I’ll never find another if I sell it. Loving the GD content
Don’t sell ittttt, I hardcore regret selling mine 😢
same with my 06, it also just hit 100k. I thought about selling it for a bit, but I love to drive it and I know id regret it. Its worth the same as I pad for it 8 years ago with under 50k miles.
@@Alex-wb2yw yeah it’s wild. What have you done to yours?
4:05 what?! that wing is what make subie subie!
i admit wingless looks cool but the wing and the rumble is a combo i simply love
I’m a simp for the wingless look lmao
Actually, while we're on the topic, looking for a low profile lip spoiler or mini duck bill for my 02. Can't seem to find anything.
@@justinf7674Like the smaller limited wing?
@@justinf7674+1 for a limited wing. Off the 07s
People who prefer the wingless look, are the same people who buy a Microsoft Zune over an iPod for whatever reason. They just want to be different 👀
"ahh it looks so classy without a wing", no...not really man lol
Yep, light works. You're good.
Thank you, was struggling to do that alone 😩😂
I made a really nice trunk set-up for my Honda Civic. It was all warped and moldy when I got it.
So I used
- 1/4in think plyboard.
- Cut out the proper outline and cut that out.
- Coat all sides in rhino-liner.
- If vehicle has spare there, easy to make cutout for the hand nut.
- I even added hinges to the side flaps to have quick easy access underneat.
- Top looks factory since it's been carpeted.
- Durable as all get-up
You can make some nice set up’s that way, but I’m a whore for the OEM stuff if I can get it 😅
I used snap together tongue and groove flooring for the house 😅
@@alexanderdavis5332 I used real wood for my floors in my house.
I kinda like the look of the regular STI wing, and while wingless does like unique I feel like too much would be missing from there. If it were up to me, i'd probably add a Duckbill or the WRX deck spoiler. Great Upload btw!
The do luck spoilers look 🤌🤌🤌 if I do go wingless I want the duckbill style
On my 2020 I had a hightail duckbill and while I enjoyed it, I ended up going with a noble sti wing on my 2023. Love the wing more haha. Really miss the duckbill tho.
it's a good feeling to save a car from the brink of a pick n pull
Good feeling but my wallet hurts from it 😂
@@Smeedia Lol I'm doing the same thing, I feel ya
Little Red light is front an aftermarket alarm. It's the armed led that blinks. That's can't be factory, I've never seen a bugeye with the red light. Unless it's done weird Japan thing.
I might try to wire that to my blinking light 😅
Love the Hawkeye with the wing. Just iconic. Love the how ya snaked the wire through the spoiler at the first try. You got the subie force going!!! Great video, as always
This may be my favorite build yet because I am planning to do something similar (with much less experience and know how.) I love the ‘17, but this is so relatable. Always great videos, keep ‘em coming!
The 07 is one to stay so expect a lot more with this one coming up 🥳
Also I’m a fan of wingless, but if you are keeping the wing for now can you at least lose those Perrin stabilizers? 😂
@@DGMWRX87maybe, I kinda low key like em? 😅
Sti looks so good, nice work, clicked the thumbs 👍 before I even started watching
Eyyyyy, appreciate you 🫡
bring that 07 back to full life and enjoy. she looking good each time the vids come.
The little stuff finally starting to make it look proper again 👌
The GD brings me back to my highschool days 😍 lovin these vids.
Btw looking sharp tanner! I love the scruff 🤗
So I’m roughly new to the channel! Just finishing up all the Subaru hatchback content. I really enjoyed the video five things to know before buying a Subaru… so I took the plunge and just purchased a 2008 full stock, widebody Subaru Wrx STI hatchback $13k 88,000 original miles I will be the second owner. really enjoying the car. I will be keeping it stock. I just purchased wheels and coil overs.. I really learned a lot these past few weeks about this car and off this channel!.. keep up the great work man I’m really enjoying the content! 😀👍
Congratulations on the car 🥳🥳solid choice too!!!! Always here if you got any questions! I may not see some older comments but I try to keep up with the current ones 🫡
@@SmeediaThank you! I’m really enjoying the car. But I do have one question…. What upgrades should I do for a daily driver?. Not performance or anything, just to make the motor healthy or keep it healthy. I’m okay with a fully stock STI motor.. I guess just your basic upgrades to the motor
Man i love the GD content
GD top tier 🚀
That fresh cut though, looking good brother 🫶🏾
❤ I’m forever loving my clean A$$ 07 crystal gray metallic ❤ I seen Hagerty online say only 4578 STI 07’s where sent and i 1 of the 382 CGM with sliver BBS sent to America 😍
🤌🤌🤌🤌 keep em clean!
@@Smeedia most definitely 💯
Never sell 😂
When you asked if the brake light worked, I said "Yes" out loud.. My wife thinks I'm going crazy! 🤣
I did the same 😂😂
Enjoyed that video, well done :)
Appreciate it my mans 🫡🥳
Had several instances when I almost bought a blobeye. Should have😅. The interiors are classic looking now.
It’s never too late 😩
Love watching this 07 build. I have an 04 Sti with 200k on it thats been a lawn ornament for a few years Im debating on bringing back to life. Something can't really make me part with it, and they really are fun cars when they're running well.
Bring it baaaaaaaack 😩 the 04s are getting harder to find
You make great content! Keep up the great work. Just VF52 swapped my 08 WRX. Runs great. Trying to find someone who does pro tunes near me lol.
Binging the Subaru content while my VA WRX is in the shop getting a new clutch and goodies on it.
Which clutch you end up going with?! 🙌
@@Smeedia ACT HD Street! Bought their Superlite flywheel to pair with it. Should be around 350whp on 93 after the tune. Factory MGT2259S with billet wheels, Intake, Turboback Exhaust, etc. Full bolt ons except still factory TMIC. Thinking about getting an ETS FMIC with a 3” Core. Should be plenty for me, it’s just my daily driver so I don’t beat on it or drive it hard.
Good progress I really love the Hawkeye!!!
She getting there 🥳
Aaaaaye🤘 I’ve been doing pulls past the shop everyday around 6pm🤣
Ima keep my ear out 😂
How dare you not have 50+ yrs of welding experience lol. Youre killin it dude keep it up. Whhhoooooooo!
Been watching this channel for a while. I have bought myself a 2003 blobeye wrx that someone made to look like an sti. Here in the uk and i am working my way through the many many issues it has, it is currently in many pieces even though it is my only car. I understand the pain on how do you not just fix the small issues it just bugs me
I cry every time I see this car; toasted mine years ago. But I smile on a quality refresh. Now you could sell it for $$$!
Gotta save the Gds 🫡
A6 an 06sti owner . I really appreciate the cool build.
Permatex PTFE liquid is your friend to stop oil leaks even on -AN lines. FYI.
Good to know 👀
For the first time irl I saw and heard a h6 straight piped, sounds wild 😮💨 can even imagine what urs would sound like In Person
Subarus are like old dogs that tug on the heartstrings. You just gotta take care of them. 🐶🐶🚙🚙
This is too true 😅😢
The one thing I hate is having to buy special tools. The one thing I love is that they're built like legos.
Love the videos and also a proud owner of gd sti oem jdm+ build. The cost for them and parts are going up.
Man speaks facts, good OE stuff is $$$
I have A 2003 STI and I agree parts are getting expensive for these old girls and I'm always looking for the odd bits and bobs.
Your making a really nice job of your Hawk eye.. lovely car 😊
Still have my 06 STi that I bought brand new in Feb 2006. I was 26 years old. I've managed to keep it clean and STOCK for real, never modified. I get the itch to modify it sometimes then just realize how much I enjoy it as is. I cringe at having to replace it someday due to a bad accident or theft. You are right though, almost 20 years old and even taking care of it I still deal with little stupid things like the factory steering wheel just not looking as good anymore and finding a factory replacement is impossible. I wanted to fix the rear clunk, just never have and factory replacement struts alone are north of $600 a piece...what?! Anyways, love the channel and keep up the GD stuff. Always like hearing about where you find your replacement parts.
Watching this build makes me miss the 04' STI I used to own a few years ago. Motor lost compression after a year of ownership and I just didn't have the funds to put anymore money in it.
I do plan to buy another GD to build properly but it'll be a few years yet.
Love the build man, I don't think I'll ever get rid of my UGM one
UGM is THEE best color out there
I still have my original 02 wrx. Love it and the fact that I only owned it I guess is super rare.
Thank you so much for this video this is what I'm dealing with on my 03 bug eye, Atwell as 2 misfires to where the engine won't turn over changed everything plugs, coil packs valve cover gaskets I'm down to exhaust valves and guids...grrrr
I definitely want one of these in the driveway beside my VB one day...
Worth ittttt 👌👌👌
Man that thing is starting to look real nice. I just got into the trucking industry and have been wanting a sti since highschool now that I’m finally gonna be in a position to get one Im definitely gonna get one preferably a 07 but I’ll see what comes along. I would love it to if I could get a built motor from josh aswell not to sure what the plan is but I think I should complete the first step first and get the car before I make a whole plan. Also love to see another Washington CZcamsr ! Always get hyped when I see one let alone one with some fire ass content like yours I feel like you guys are a rare breed. I’m Located out in granger in between Yakima and tricities 🫡. There’s always a bunch of sti’s for sale out here so I’ll have to see what’s here when the time comes! Sick video man looking forward to the next video!
Ryyyy I know where you’re at! I’ve seen a handful of decent deals pop up down there for some blown up ones that are fairly cheap. Good amount of 05-07s. Hopefully you can snag one soon and congrats on the new career Miguel! 🎉
@@Smeedia yesssir there is definitely some deals down here, appreciate it man thank you🙏 !
Just got a ‘04 WRX Java black pearl, 113k miles, runs amazing. Just has hail damage and needs a center diff.
You should consider getting a go fast bits blow off valve for one of your projects. It’s a small frame but 52mm of valve. Best one out there for its size.
I’ve used em before and they always leaked from the seals 👀
Wingless on the 02-07 trunks are dope as fuck. the way the trunk line pops up with the lights, subtle, but glorious in design.
My 2005 Spec C didn’t come with no trunk carpet from the dealer. So I made a Legacy trunk carpet and I made it fit. It’s better I think.
Okinawa, Japan
Ima look into doing that 😅
Loving the GD content as an owner of multiple GDs myself. But still can't help but be a little anxious about what the next car on the chopping block is. I really hope it's not the RS2.5
I can assure you the RS is on the safe side of the chopping
Fanttastic news. Can't wait for the build@@Smeedia
Love the hawk eye
Definitely one of my favorite generations. This one’s getting there 🎉
one of the best looking subaru ever made 😍
Been enjoying the Hawkeye series. Ever get a P0442 (small evap leak)? It’s like chasing a ghost. I’ve got a new filler cap, replaced evap solenoids under the hood and lines. Didn’t work! Wasn’t cheap! I’m about to replace the gaskets on the fuel pump tank seal and fuel tank sending unit. Next might be the valve at the carbon canister. Thoughts?
Gaskets, then check around the charcoal canister for leaks 🫡
You're such a beast with subarus
I think it’s the owners, they throw all their money at mods and neglect all the upkeep. My Sti is stock and cost a fortune to restomod.
100%, and I don’t blame em. For most people they don’t care too much to fix the broken things and just want the mods to
Hey man, could you go a little more into detail about the hyper flash fix? I have it from swapping to red leds when making my clear tail lights and figured I had to mess with the actual harness.
Watching your videos is making me want an older STi…probably won’t happen as I am a ‘19 owner with more projects than time though! I would love to see you get an old GC8 eventually…
I have an old GM6 sitting in another unit 😅
@@Smeedia ooohhh even better! Can’t wait to see that build! 👍😊
I fixed so many little things on my fxt. I get what your saying
Loving it.
Need to fix something thats broken. Im doing it bit by bit even thow the things breaking with wear and tear but getting there.
But like you said why not just fit them as they brake
I think I'm gonna cop a new Imprezzy RS cuz of your channel making me wanna switch from honda to suwubu
I know this sounds unbelievable, but I have a 2002 WRX that I bought new, and I've never had a single bulb go out. I replaced some of the tail lights with LEDs at one point, and I replaced the headlights because they got dim. Other than that, every bulb is OE, and they all work. Even the fog lights have survived.
Quality bulbs right there 😅 how many miles are on it?!
@@Smeedia I'll hit 175K this coming week
3rd brake light works 👍
Dope video as always! So glad your doing this GD series I also have a Hawkeye and can relate to the little issues lol
Can you share what relay that was? I’d like to get one for mine. I’m having the hyper flash turning signal as well.
Thanks for the awesome content.
PS your forehead looks fine dude chill
I snagged it from fast WRX, came with the LED Package I got 🫡 so many little issues on these things 🥲
@@Smeedia word I might have to get one for sure the whole hyper blinker is driving me crazy lol
My bugeye doesnt have that little red light, its just the parking lights, never seen that, might be for the older subaru safety flashing thingy
Interesting, I’ve never seen that either 😅
Tanner, you need to get the carbon trunk now and black the roof! SO NICE!
I will be rockin a wingless soon i think they look cool but in two minds on adding that little lip spoiler they but on the A line ones.
Wingless trunk with the sti limited spoiler would look sick
The wingless set up is 🤌
Big thick cable tie around one exhaust hanger helps pull it away from the diff
I might have some metal ones 👀
02/03 wrx driver side wiper arm to eliminate windshield wind sounds as you driving 55mph+
I wish i could take my hatch to ya and pay you for it but obviously i dont got the money or the time for it. Love the content! Trying to learn from you
i'm a wingless boi too. have you considered doing a 2018+ steering rack swap? I would love to see it done and hear your thoughts
I’ve done it before in Gds and tbh it is not worth the haste to make em fit 😅
541 Motorsports for the win! I bought my 06 from Spencer (the owner)
They got some good stuff for sale 🎉
I had a really clean '05 STI until I moved to Seattle. Then I got hit twice, had the door destroyed when someone broke into it, and someone else started scratching my car every day at work for no reason. I still have to fix all of the damage, but now it'll never be the way it was short of painting the entire thing. It's especially frustrating that none of this was the fault of my own.
okay so i've watched a video, downloaded another to watch, and will finish watching this. Im an hd fleet mechanic with an 07 impreza 2.5i. Hopefully you'll give me a straight answer cos i already trust the source. how much is involved in sti cloning it beyond the engine and transmission, will i be able to buy sti parts and put em on? e.g. redo the suspension with new control arms and coilovers and sway bars etc (probably going whiteline for most of that ngl) or is this more of a "build a chassis dolly" situation?
Heat the aluminum up with a torch first. It'll let the weld penetrate better
I’ve tried that before and I can’t get it any better. I can do pipe to pipe okay, but that flange I just cannot get at all to weld nicely
@@Smeedia No offence you need to practice way more before put your welded parts on your cars, your cars deserve it!!! edit: or bite the bullet and pay a pro
you could paint the by pass vaulve where you weldered so it hides it a bit
My 05 Sti entire trunk was missing as well smfh..clean hawkeye!!
Looking at sway cars for my GD too. I’m on a budget, so do I NEED to get end links as well?
You don’t NEED to but your stock ones may snap 👀
Damn does the sti look mint.
Running a lil late Chief. I was doing the front bumper camera install on the Saaaaab
Also. Ordered new hosing for my washer reservoir. The leak was due to the old hoses crumbling apart 😅
15:40 "Every single GD chasis, the entire trunk goes missing somehow"
I literally just bought an 05 sti and the entire trunk is missing 😆😭
Every details matter and details are not cheap.
One step at a time 🚀🌛
Have a nice week end 🚗💥💨🔥
I wish i could have a sit but I’m scared it will blow like the last 2 i had. Are evos more reliable? I like how the valve cover is on top
Man that weld looks sooo……much better than what I can do! #truth 😅
Hey Tanner, I'm having an electrical issue with my 08 STI. Randomly my "door open" light came on while the car was in storage. I've checked all the door sensors including getting a new rear hatch sensor/lock mechanism at a junkyard. I simply can't figure it out, and haven't found much help online. Any ideas?
**Sees Tanner hit the brake**
“Yeah!! You’re good bro! It’s working!!”
YESSSSSS lmao appreciate it 😅
Since im getting a new rad im gonna go with tbe forester xt setup where the crossover coolant pipe moves the top hose to the passenger side looks ckeaner imho.. wdyt?
Ngl ive never seen the hype in older wrx chassis when the gr chassis is newer and similarly priced
I bet my opinion will change once i drive one lol
When you drive a modified one I promise that’ll change. I sold my first STI (08) for an 07 years ago. There’s something about the Gds 🤌
If I had to characterize the older Subies, I would say that they feel much more "raw" or "unrefined", but in a good way. With the older cars, the driver mod becomes way more important, especially on highly modified examples , sometimes pushing more than double the OEM power levels. In the older cars, absent are most of the electronics and features that will make you look like a hero, whereas the older ones will tell on you every time.
Yo Tanner, I need help trying to understand speed density I wrote down what you want said about the two wires do I just buy the sensor hook it all up Or do I need to change the tune? I don’t want to run maf sensor anymore.
You’ll need a tune adjustment once you have it all set up 🫡
I realized my third brake light has overspray too you think I can use paint thinner to get it off??
With the number of forced induction cars you usually are under and modifying, have you given any thought to one of the vaccum leak detection tools? The unit I've got is the commercial grade SmokePro that burns mineral oil(baby oil) and has a connection for an air compressor that pushes the smoke through the entire intake tract at less than 10psi. It will literally find a pin hole and look like a little steam train's stack venting at every leak. It saved my sanity when first getting into turboed cars. I think they are down to around $600 now, less than half what i paid when they first hit the market.
I’ve debated it, but that little $6 pressure tester had not failed me yet for finding leaks. The smoke tester would make visually seeing it easier. But the bubbles don’t lie either lol
You might want to invest in a smoke machine that will find the tiniest leaks without the use of compressed ir..Works great for vacuum leaks, ehaust etc and around $200/$250.
I need to do this also because my tuner said I must have a boost leak. Does this fill the whole system or just stuff before the throttle body? Is this a dumb question? I don't know what Im doing haha
Keep the wing forever! Keep the wing... keep the wing
It will fill the charged area, the Tb will be open every so slightly but shouldn’t effect the pressurized area. If it’s leaking, it’ll show
I have a question for you, @Smeedia. If I were to begin stockpiling parts for a 2005 STI to keep it original 30 years from now, what parts should those be? Which parts will start becoming hard or impossible to find? Which factory parts will remain available?
Had my 05 sti for 17 yrs now it's my baby I've put less than 3000 miles since 2014 I drive it once a month to the beach and back
Been chasing a P0171 on my freshly rebuilt hybrid EJ25 for 4 months. Fixed all the small leaks, still throwing the code. Starting to think it’s the base map.
I wonder if Diode Dynamics makes a LED kit for the OEM third break light assembly...
Where did you get that intake scope from my man?
I imported an 04 FSTI with 29,000km genuine. I looking on doing all the maintainance stuff first ofc, but would you have any recommendations on things i should do/get/or check. I'm also looking at getting the iag aos but how hard would it be to install on a RHD do you know? thanks
The steering shaft might be in the way? I’m not too certain on that. As for what to knock out after main range I’d say a Koyo Rad, AOS and any other bits that need replacing. Then kinda figure out what you wanna do with it and plan from there 🫡
@@Smeedia Roger that, and about the iag aos apparently theres a bracket made for RHD cars but you would still need to run longer hoses. was considering the killer b aos but i like the coolant in the iag one.
It lights up. Oh yeahhhh.
Thanks for letting me know Paul 😅
@Smeedia No problem. I got Bluebaru #2 back from Irvine Subaru yesterday. My front and rear catalytic converters failed internally. All covered by Subaru. I'm still in the STI club. Subies forever, a great video brother. All of the subies are looking mint.
nice beard cut🔥
hi tanner do you think its worth deleting the upper expansion tank on these car im currently going rotated with a g30-770 but wasnt sure how to delete the lines
Only delete the tank if you absolutely have to. It not a bad thing to keep if you can
@@Smeedia what I was considering do you like the killer b v2 tank ? I watched your video on the hawk eye seems a pain to bleed the coolant with out it in these cars
Hey Tanner, I wanted your opinion on this, I got my 2012 sti back in june and checked the oil regularly and wasnt burning any, i checked it today and it was about 2 to 1,5 quarts low. What might make it burn oil sudenly and could this have killed my engine?
Car is tuned, has a downpipe and catback. Also up here we get crazy winters do you think could wheather could be the cause of the sudden oil burning?
Ok the underside of the oil cap do you have a yellow frothy looking substance and is there any blue smoke?
yea the the oil cap had yellow ish frothy stuff and no blue smoke at all.
