If you only plan to do "spirited driving" and light tracking every now and again, then taking out a second mortgage probably isnt the right path. Chasing ridiculous numbers is a fools game. I'm new to the Subaru community! All I can say is I'm glad I found this channel! I'm in a dilemma and I hope you get some guidance advice? My first subie was a 01 forester and I just picked up an 08 sport Forester. I fell in love with off road and still love street. Which car should I off road vs street ? Can you do an equivalent build but for off-road? 👀

    You talk about the issues of a flat engine. I am curious what Porsche does to fix, or work around these issues? Love your work!

    So what I took away from this is looking cool is more important than sounding cool. We will give up efficiency in suspension but not in exhaust.

      Don't get me wrong, this car handles extremely well and this ride height is perfect for track use, for rough roads it could be a little higher.

    Mike and MotoIQ, thanks for the video and kudos on the car. She's a beaut! Question: Which of the mods you fitted to the car were sponsored and which did you purchase at full retail price?

      I don't even remember exactly, the car was built over 10 years and why does this even matter? Nothing ever is free.

    Fantastic video. Couple of questions for you, with the rear diff lock out bolts, are stiffer diff carrier bushings even necessary? Do you lose the added rotation that the big rear sway bar brings when you go big in the front also? The old autox trick on these was to maintain the stock front sway, but I'm curious on your perspective there.

    • @motoiq
      @motoiq  Před 5 měsíci +3

      One inch of free uncontrolled movement can't be good. The diff carrier is separate from the crossmember. I think the front bar is a tradeoff for cars that roll a lot and loose camber from the roll, so the understeer created by that is worse than the understeer from the front bar.

    That should be a tuners standard. Package things to meet the end users needs.

    1:00:08 !!! This is something I've never heard anyone express, but that I've thought of myself. So I had an Outback XT with the 5 speed and a cobb short throw. It shifted terribly and would even grind at times. Now that trans is in a different car with a longer shifter and it shifts just fine. It seems to me that the reduced leverage of a STS causes the syncros in a 5 speed to not work as well, which leads the drive to just drag against them like slipping a clutch. IMO for 5 speeds, keep that shifter stock, just stiffen the bushings for better feel.

    • @motoiq
      @motoiq  Před 5 měsíci +2

      We adjusted it so the motion ratio was almost the same as stock for that reason but we benefit from the better bushings on the Cobb.

    • @Levibetz
      @Levibetz Před 5 měsíci +1

      @@motoiq I appreciate the validation! I built my own tall sorta normal-throw shifter with solid aluminum bushings for the old GL that this transmission ended up in. Shifts good and falls right to hand for a nice race car feel.
