mike do you ever build CA18's
It’s his cadence , very soothing.
This guy looks like he's about to burst out laughing all the time ! He's good but ! Cheers from New Zealand
But will it pull premium 2 weeks before race wars?
Have you guys finished up that vq37vhr build?
Take a shot every time you hear WPC treatment and cryogenic treatment.
Like 500 hp here is good fuel, good tune, new bearings, soft limiter, ARP rod bolts water pump pulley underdive, oil pickup mod.
I feel dirty watching the finger go into the ports on the head
Chuck it in the bin and get a Toyota if you want to beat on a Nissan. If your car is going drifting, put a proven engine in the car. I.e, a 1jz or a 2jz. You have loads of space under the hood. A RB26 might even be a solution, but not a SR20. A straight six would provide much clearer power and more torque without having to lean on it, which in turn, makes a much more reliable build.
no kidding
@@motoiq I guess you have a huge budget and can afford to rebuild a engine every race, that is if you honestly intend to get 500 HP from a SR and race it, I mean actually race it. If it's "4-cylinder" class you intend on competing in, I still wouldn't use a SR, I would use a K Series Honda. As far as common knowledge in Europe goes, SR20's are known to be really soft, which you kinda allude to. I'm assuming all those treatments and preparations don't come cheap, and you could avoid all of it, and save yourself a lot of money, by simply choose a engine more suited to the purpose. Is there any specific reason you are choosing that engine? I'm interested to find out if they are actually so soft, or do Europeans have too heavy a foot? Also, what is so special about the "neo" Nissan engines? I'm always up to learn.
Some of the best car knowledge on youtube, bar none! Keep it up yall 😁
Between Mike Kojima and Dave Coleman when they wrote for the Sport Compact Car magazine, you can learn anything.
Do n N/A sr20de and vvl
I have been waiting a while for the bbl head video…. That you mention in the other SR video 😅
I have seen words on the Internet and forums about how the FB series is quite awful. I'm curious: have any of these economy focused engines have made their way into your shop? I know the earlier port injection (especially the 2.0) had bad ring to cylinder mating surfaces resulting in large amounts of blow-by. I have the Crosstrek 6MT with the fb20d and if it ever goes I have my eyes on an Ascent fa24. They seem to total easy and go to auction.
I think the ultimate SR needs a VE head but hard to find these days. My ultimate love is the SR, things have come a long way from 15 years ago when i used to have mine.
Are you guys planning to create a video series of the engine and car build with dyno and track testing?
yes
@@motoiqmuch appreciated 😊
Project do it all S13 ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks for telling me this I've repaired 10,000 vehicles and not once have I ever needed to know this
Protect this man at all costs!
Excellent can we do a KA24DE that can safely push 400+hp as a daily.
we did a video on that
Do you have any videos on the SR20 DE? I have one, and it’s pretty awesome even non-turbo. Great job as always 💯
It's the same but more compression and bigger cams
@@motoiq wow that’s awesome. Thank you!
You're AWESOME Mike!!! 😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
My ideal SR20 project would be a Nissan Pulsar/Sunny Gtir rally recce car.
A couple of SR20’s would pull a premium a week before race wars
Big like man. From your eye on why it failed is pure gold man. Thanks for the video! Please keep them coming!
I had a drill sergeant who had a face that looked like he always was smiling, he'd be yelling, screaming at you with just a smile and would get extra made if you smiled back, f,ing hilarious watching newbies dealing with that same sarg, god bless sgt fauntnow. Be All You Can Be. Hurrah!
Greatly information about technology and application even though my Mini Cooper will never get swapped.
Dog Car tricks when? Lol
doggone
@@motoiqdon’t remind me, I still beat myself up to this day for not taking the offer of buying it off Kojima-sama
❤️🔥
Great engine. Just replace -everything- with custom parts. And then modyfi them. Love is blind I guess :P Thanks for sharing knowledge guys.
Ok Mike, but what have you done to that E39 M5?
Bolt ons
Step 1 for the ultimate SR is to get a VVL head. So much efficiency to be gained. Basically creating the K series within the SR world.
He's not building drag cars that need a fresh motor every race 😅
Build it!!! Build up the dang .thing ..we want the play by play...drips of assembly drops...Loctite the blue and the red. Torque specs ,tips and tricks too...we want engine dyno runs numbers and graphs....big red lines an numbers through the roof . Love sr cant get enough
What he 👆 said‼️

Thank you, Mike! excellent content, as usual.
Excellent!
I've been binging Lake Speed's Motor Oil Geek and Total Seal videos. Mazworx and Tekno Toyz are legendary. Been dreaming about having a Mazworx DE block for ages
"Blowing up a lot of engines isn't normal." Well said.
One day, i will get you guys to build me a balls to the wall engine. I have trust issues. you guys have my trust
Love the passion and knowledge you bring to the table, a nice change from the everyday CZcams mechanic!
GREAT job Mike, what about VVL head????
I 2nd this.
YES!!! I've been waiting! Thanks Awesome!
thank YOU! ❤
Mike reminds me of Jeff Ho. If you know, you know. How cool would it be to get a moto IQ car done in a Jeff Ho paint job. Call him up!
Hi Mike.
I've been listening to this guy since the late 90's. This man knows his SR20s.
where did he share his knowledge back then? or like through what platform?
@@ohnaw223 He was a writer for one of the best car magazines of the 90s - early 00s "Sport Compact Car". I also remember him being a really active member on the old SR20 / Sentra SE-R forums back in the day.
The Legend Himself
dry sump or wet sump for street , and price range for a setup for a 04 Silverado 4wd
Is it reliable for a daily or does she need a rebuild every now and then
that is probably overkill for that!
Talks about blown engines from E85... while his example is from an sti...😂😂😂
Not blown, gummed up.
How does one know how much preload is right for them? Also how does one know how much lock they need on accel/decel? Is it all experience?
by experimenting
I agree with Synthetics usually being better but it’s more about the additive package of the oil some of the best race oils are made from mineral oil base stocks like VR1 Brad Penn and Driven
