I’m glad Toyota is keeping full frame SUV’s around, everyone else is a unibody
The overpriced Bronco is a body on frame. Again it’s overpriced for what you’re getting, but that’s my opinion
@@EricFortuneJr.How dare you comparing an American piece of crap to Toyota engineering? Lol
@@RAFAEL199O Toyota has some major issues too with certain years/makes. Of course Toyota still tops the charts for reliability though. It's unfortunate that Toyota's only recently gotten comfortable with its interior ergonomics. I don't see me being able to afford new anytime soon. Ford had this comfortability for taller individuals like myself down pat back in 2006.
Based.
Tbf, Toyota already has a crossover for every segment. They got the Highlander for mid size. 4Runner will always be traditional SUV.
I still enjoy driving my 2006 4Runner V8 Sport Edition, in Costa Rica!
The 4Runner has gone Italian on us... Look at all that spaghetti under the hood!
I still remember the 90s 4Runner
Still not as cool as the 80's 4runners.
I still have the 90s 4Runner 😆
Pretty redundant considering there is more than one.
Those 90s 4Runner are the best , a true warrior 😊
It’s a shame Toyota got rid of v6 it was reliable but powerful
I kind of wish they had optioned a NA 4 cylinder hybrid option, in addition to the two powertrains offered
How many wires and cables on the engine - good gosh.
I thought the same thing. No room for anything else.
Kinda scary looking 👀 with all them wires and stuff’
İm still driving my 2005 4runner v6 and going strong as ever
Didn't know about the tumble/fold second row. That's a great feature.
While 95% buyers would benefit from better fuel economy from a unibody and not even know what full frame and unibody even means. Most buyers are buying the aesthetic and cargo space.
@@Expressionistix Well, for those who _do_ know what unibody means, Toyota has the RAV4.
I'm excited to see more. Love my 2020 5th Gen 4Runner
I have a 19 Nightshade still love it. The 2025 is Awesome but not crazy about the rear tail lights and the slanted rear end.
The 4 runner has become the latest casualty of high strung busy drive trains and screen centric interiors.
How is it high strung if toque es down low
@makatron it is high strung in the sense that a smalller displacement engine is having to make as much power as a larger naturally aspirated V6.
@@mbox314well, we just have to be careful of who we vote for next time, and maybe we won’t have to worry about stressed small engines anymore.
@faheemabbas3965 last time I checked when it comes to regulations, none of the mainstream parties undoes the restrictions set by the other.
@@mbox314 that's where the hybrid assistance comes into play
I love the wrap over glass rear windows.
And just like that, gone is the legendary reliability of the 4Runner.
You people must be able to see in the future.
Toyota will do better than others in reliability but these changes will not help.
You anti-turbo boomers think Toyota just started turbocharging engines last week or something.
Looks awesome. I love the saddle brown seats, wish they’d offer those in the Tacoma
Thanks, and thank you for saying “head up“ and not “heads up“ like most people are incorrectly doing.
Straight to the point! Now, young and future reviewers take notes
If only it was available with a V6 😞
Turbo four has more power. People need to shake that neanderthal thinking.
I have hope. Landed on a forum of Prius owners sometime back and those folks swear by the hybrid engine’s reliability.
Makes sense that Toyotas mastered it since they’ve been building that car for 20 something years.
Lexus has it
Most Toyota hybrids use Hybrid Synergy Drive. Which has no turbos.
I don’t know how reliable it is but it’s definitely the best looking truck on the road. Good Job to the design team. Even the interior is amazing
I have a '22 4Runner Limited and really like it. Great SUV. I will likely trade it in for a new Land Cruiser this summer instead of another 4Runner. Although the 4Runner is very sharp as well. Both good choices. Land Cruiser will be much more expensive and fairly rare.
LCs are tanks.. I can’t afford one but would love one. I have a ‘11 Highlander with 207K miles, solid vehicle, all-in-all.. LOVE 4runners but need that 3rd row for the kids. Cheers mate
Its nothing compared to BMW 750 with 530 hp V8 and Italian leather.
Why change so quickly? Seems wasteful
@@billricheter5678 I buy my 4Runners new and keep them about 2 1/2 years. I put very few miles on them as it is a third vehicle. I can trade them in after 2-3 years with low miles and it costs less than $10k over this time period for depreciation.
A Land Rover / Range Rover would cost me $40k plus in depreciation over the same time period.
The Land Cruiser will likely hold its value well and be a nice change. 4Runner is an outstanding vehicle as well.
@@rachelgreen1368 comparing bmw suv to a legendary one
Toyota Design Team: "The 4Runner hasn't been changed in 15 years. What can we do?" "I know, let's give it two front bumpers!"
What you should have said is how much more can we do to make it uglier.
Toyota lovers love it! If you want cool redesigns all the time drive something else that falls apart. When I'm off or on road I need reliability. Toyota's can often go 300,000 miles with basic services.
Based.
The double bumper thing they've done before too, it's another throwback, Toyota had at least 3 convertible/removable top SUVs that I know of, & none have come back with that throwback feature, that's what I want to see
@@ChroniclesofKToyodaYou're never getting one on the 4Runner. Land Cruiser should have had one, as an FJ replacement.
You never make the front end look like a frown. Always make it look like a smile. Manufacturers still don’t get it.
Who are all of these people taking their vehicles off-road on all of these trails we keep always hearing about? Seriously. Is that even 1% of 4Runners sold?
I take my Grand Cherokee off road a few times a year. If I replace it with a 4Runner, which is a possibility, it will go off road also.
Have you ever seen the mountains? 😂
It's probably %10 people do that
I can only imagine the mark ups on the TRD Pros. 80k plus.
I love Toyota's simplicity, and durability. like the Kei trucks with dump bed, way better than other brands.
We have a 2015 4runner bought new. Used heavily mechanically but being cleaned most of the time. We had 190,000 miles out of it before we traded it in ‘23. The they gave us a copy of the carfax, we didn’t realize that the SUV has done only 7 oil changes in 190,000 miles. 🤣 most durable car we ever owned and didn’t need any service done. Just tires, air filter and oil changes. We now have a 2023 Lexus LX. Toyota the best and most dependable car!
not gonna lie you know, it's the coolest 4runner they did for the first time in 15 years. good thing they still kept the third row on some trims. but to be honest, i prefer the trd pro one, even though that trim doesn't offer a third row but that's okay
Any idea on MPG for both available engines?
No, but we wouldn't be shocked if it were very close to the fuel economy on the new Tacoma.
Idk who is designing for Toyota the last 15 years but they deserve a raise
looks good, please please please have the v6 option! if it comes in a v6 normal trim, this will be my next car. its the perfect logical choice.
I’d like to get a new one but my 2001 is still going strong.
I will never understand why anyone would shell out $50k+ for a GM or Ford full frame SUV. All of the offerings from Toyota are superior in literally every way.
As much as I like Toyota. Their frames rot out fast in the rust belt. And the 4 cylinder is a big no to me for the size of the vehicle. You can’t go wrong with a good running v8
Which Toyota is a direct competitor with the Expedition Max or Suburban?
@@waterloo123100 V-8 will slowly disappear. If you have one, keep it if not, go buy one.
@@gtrance3567Gm and ford are investing billions into V8 engine plants. People still want them so their not dead yet
The only problem I have with Toyota is their high pricing
Honestly I like it. I’m supposed they didn’t make it a bloated rav 4 with the redesign. They took the old 4 runner and modernized it.
I really like the 4Runner but is it just me or does that engine bay look a mess?! Hopefully it's the pre-production models.
I feel like all the newer cars are becoming complete chaos in the engine bay, Honda is the same now with a complete spaghetti engine bay
I love the fact we have a land cruiser and 4Runner but we really need to understand what distinguishes these two, they share the same market
That's easy. The 4Runner is now ugly to look at while the Land Cruiser is beautiful. 👍
There's some subtile differences, such as which one has more space, the pop out vs roll down rear window, third row option vs no third row option, 12.3 vs 14 inch screen, hybrid standard vs hybrid option so on and so forth
@@Veritas0589 It's actually the opposite, the Cruiser is ugly, & the 4Runner is a true beauty
Looks great.....I'd love to have one; but prices of nearly everything the last several years have me looking like 😳.
This host sounds pretty decent, I look forward to hearing more from this guy.
Well you'll be seeing Brian quite a bit in the next few weeks. At this same event, he drove 4 different Toyota models that we will do First Drives on. Stay tuned!
More likable than the other young reviewers. I have no idea why they use them. Like that was a position they got specifically hired for. Someone saw them and thought that's what we want on our channel.
a four banger. c'mon
With turbo and a lot more low-end torque !!!
I love how the new 4runner looks like a toy. Like those space rover on the cartoon ❤❤.
They NEED to figure out how to put a 3rd row for the Hybrid motor version! That is critical for people with large families who go on road trips. That extra power when towing things and extra mileage (range) is important for people who decide to get a luxury platinum or limited model but need the seating with the power.
You might just need a grand Highlander instead
@@W0nTonSoup Grand highlander is ok but not something i would buy. I like the ruggedness, i’m a 4runner guy. I’ve had 4 runners all my life. I might just buy the lexus 550 this time since i like luxury and the power behind it. I’ve waited for this 4runner reveal for so many years. It’s disappointing with that motor and lack of 3 row for the limited and premium being only to the base motor
They got rid of the solid rear axle?
Looks like a Fisher-Price toy.
Those taillights reminds me of the latest Ford Expedition for some reason.
It is quite similar, especially in the shape of
Really? i have done a quick google search, i don't see much similarity, The edges are different, & the expeidtion also have a larger (longer tailights?)
Reminds me of a bronco sport.
@@xXVibrantSnowXx I think it's more of the coloring.... Red surround with clear inners
Can't go wrong with one of these!
you can go very wrong with a turbo
@hollowpoint45acp Ya' better get used to them, princess, 'cuz pretty soon that's all we'll have to play with from an ICE perspective. I owned a 2013 Ford F150 Platinum 4x4 with the 1st gen Ecoboost and got 9 yrs of great service from that motor. And to prove I'm not a small displacement turbo or hybrid apologist, I replaced it with a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 w/ 6.2l V-8. I just felt like I'd better snatch a V-8 before they're not an option for US truck buyers.
Hideous, and too long. Weak underpinnings as well. Rip 4 runner
@@hollowpoint45acp facts...
MSRP will be $65k+ in US...in an era of 8% APR financing.
What a steal of a deal
Toyota literally say they start at 44k if you’re broke just say so
44k is too much as well. @@Rapido20
@@Rapido20 i make $330k and even i think 40-50k is too much for a car, how arebyou going to build real wealth if youre spending 1000/month on car/insurance plus rent etc? Its a waste of money because people like you want to LOOK like youre not broke. Its the brokest ones with the nicest cars most of the time
$65k with the dealer mark up
Simple & Reliable!
No hydraulic seat like the Tacoma?
Only the push for ever smaller engines with turbo:(
The turbo 4 is a shame. I guess we should be thankful it didn't go electric (yet). It's a different world I guess.
It literally makes more hp and way more torque than the ancient v6, get on with the ti,es grandpa
@@Rapido20 Sorry turbo head, this high strung motor will not be as dependable as the old 6 which is what Toyota is known for. I would expect engine wear around 150k along with turbo replacement. Towing large loads will shorten the drivetrains life considerably. People buy Toyotas to last, not need repairs or replacement.
Toyota has no intention of going full electric, being that they clearly stated that they can use the same amount of rare earth materials to produce more hybrid vehicles in contrast to fewer EVs. It's called the 1:6:90 rule.
@@jaydibernardo4320Anyone paying this much for a 4Runner probably won’t whine about the cost of a turbo rebuild.
EPA and EU forced Toyota.
This man is too charismatic.
If it's not going to be John, I find this guy more likable than the other reviewers.
Absoloutly a legend!!❤❤!!
In your mind, maybe.
new TOY looking good
Didn’t know it shared the “Tundra’s full size frame”…🙄
Well, I'm still loving my 4th gen 4Runner with about 300k on it. Hopefully, the 6th gen will have been out long enough that I can afford a 5th gen when the time comes 😂
"Multi link rear suspension" = solid axle. I wonder why it's so difficult to report that.
To distinguish it from leaf springs..
this gen has a Voltes V cockpit.
Awesome truck!
Can't wait for it!
Toyota reliability may be found to suffer over the next decade as a result of the choice to use a boosted 4 cylinder in a relatively heavy vehicle as opposed to the understressed v6 in previous models.
Wonder what the gas mileage is on this thing
Similar to the latest Tacomas they share the same platform with.
The new Xterra looks great
Shoulda had the 5.7 iforce.
Nice Camry
Piano black fender flares……good god 😬
I thonk it looks great, def needs a v6 though
If we can't have John, this guy seems cool. Leaps and bounds preferable to your other NPC reviewers.
Its nothing compared to BMW 750 with 530 hp V8 and Italian leather.
It’s Growing on me
I was wondering when Toyota was gonna do this. After all the current generation 4Runner has been showing its age for a while now.
Its age was it's best selling point.
Looks great!
You know something this show on the PBS channel been around when the only other choice for auto industry insider info was a magazine.
What I'm not understanding is why Motor Week doesn't use their voice & opinion to say c'mon these 4cyl engines are giving a false sense of reliability & fuel economy in particular the turbo variants i know from experience the most reliable domestic 2.4 4cyl turbo or natural aspirated built by mistibushi this was in the mid to late 1980's
Keep the 3.5 V6 for the people who faithfully swore by Toyota
motor weak not allowed to drive a car
The war you want to fight is already over. It's going to be turbo fours and hybrids for the next couple of decades.
And then it's gonna be electric only.
You can bet it's gonna be expensive. Looks good but I just bought a cx50 at a much more reasonable price.
If Toyota tries, they can fit additional hoses on that turbo 4 engine…
Tesla is the best car company ever! No gas stations, No oil changes, No smog check, No corrupt dealership, No catalytic converter and as fast as a $650,000 Lamborghini
Am I the only person who would like to see a hybrid version without turbo?
I think it might ease people's minds about reliability but... I think either it's reliable or not in a toyota with a turbo is probably going to be solid.
We'll see!
Yes
Will it be sold outside North America? If so, as 4Runner, Land Cruiser Sport, or simply Land Cruiser for markets such as Latin America i.e. Brazil, Europe i.e. Britain and Ireland, and some Southeast Asian countries that sell neither the Prado nor the big-ass Land Cruiser no longer sold stateside except as the Lexus LX? That means the odd-looking and oddly-named Hilux-based Fortuner/SW4 will face the axe for good.
Looks great but they lost me at a turbo charged engine. They will never last like their non-turbo charged engine. Looks great though
Let's see the SR5 or TRD Sport.
Will sell like hotcakes
No it won't
@@taurussho86yes it will 😂😂😂😂😂 Mr trash ford
Only if they sell it at MSRP.
Wont sell
Not with 10-15k dollar markups they won’t. Over 70 grand BEFORE taxes for a 4Runner?😂🤣
Where’s John?
We have a number of segments that John is not a part of.
We don't like them.
Boooo
John needs to retire one day and they need to find someone to take his place, they seem to be taking replacement the process carefully. Good on them.
@@Motorweek he’s the only reason I watch your show tbh
funny why do we need the Land Cruiser then?
Because Toyota needed at least one vehicle that looks good.
Unfortunately, It is one of the most stolen vehicle in Canada So besure to install a good anti-theft system with a couple GPS in it and install a dumb or fake OBD port
All engines are turbo i take , last gen please😊
4 cylinders. Good luck with that.
Faster than any V6 predecessor. Sorry you drive a brand that needs more than 2.5L to make power.
magnificent
Thumbs up if you wish they would offer a base model with A/C, cruise control, a manual trans, and just enough engine electronics to meet EPA standards all for the low price of...................
Sick
Inline 4 everything is getting old quick.
Blame the EPA/ government. They’re also the reason why you don’t see many new sedans anymore.
New engine looks so much more messy than my 2011 4 runner engine
No V6? Forget it.
Don't care if it is a Toyota, these turbo 4-bangers are going to be cooked at 150K miles with that output. So much for Toyotas lasting 200k+ miles.
I have to disagree with you because I have driven several Toyota 4 cylinders over the half million mile mark. It's like they get better as they age fuel economy increases it's amazing you should try one.
@rockablababy Were the models you referring to all turbo-charged?
@@rockablababy Toyota doesnt make an 4 cylinder turbo engines..... My guy you are pulling sh!t out of your ^ss.
Scotty kilmer agrees with this
The output is only that high bc it’s a mild hybrid. The lower output one without the hybrid assist makes the same power as the outgoing v6.
I do like the exterior, its not too crazy but gives it that off-road appeal, both in TRD and the more street oriented trim levels. I'm not a fan of that huge iPad looking screen, if it was a little smaller, it would defeintily be a little less intrusive.
The larger 14-inch screen is optional. A smaller 8-inch screen standard on lower trims.
Hm no paddle shifters.
These people whining about the engine need to either get over it and move on, or wait like 5 years and see how dependable it is, without judging it before it even hits the roads. Toyota is known for their reliability.
Toyota is known for their 4 cylinder engines to burn oil with weak piston rings as well.
