      I get where you're coming from, but I think this would end up creating a story that ignores gender completely, which isn't necessarily ideal. A person's gender legitimately does change the way people treat them and how they experience the world and acting as though that doesn't matter is kind of brushing aside the potential for genuinely interesting conversations about gender.

    • @silver5866
      @silver5866 Před 10 měsíci +73

      Right? I don't even know how many stitches I got. Not because I was torn that badly, but because I was exhausted and didn't even think about it until almost a week after. I had enough energy to never take my eyes away from her except to share a teary smile with my husband. By then, the worst of the immediate physical pain was over, and I was overwhelmed with how glad I was that she was arguably perfect. A little red/puffy in the face, but she didn't look...kinda squished... like I've seen in a lot of newborns.
      It's a rediculously painful experience, immediately followed by a rush of oxytocin and pure relief that we both made it (I was getting kinda scared as the due date came closer; if you've never even had surgery before, childbirth automatically seems like a terribly dangerous thing.)
      Then again, that kind of "person" would almost certainly try to equate it to post-naughty tiredness or something equally stupid.
      I initially thought he was going to say that women only love their babies because of the oxytocin. Guess I expected too much 😅

    the thing about Middle Earth Dwarven women looking like men wasn't a joke.
    Tolkien made his Dwarves have little to no sexual dimorphism, meaning the men and women look almost the same.
    I really like that they took this to heart in the Online game set in Middle Earth, where you can't select a gender for Dwarves, and some Dwarven NPCs are referred to with she/her pronouns and have a slightly higher voice ^^
    This also raises a lot of questions, such as, do Dwarves even have a concept of hetero/homo sexual, or do they just pair up with whoever and sometimes that makes babies?

      Sir Terry Pratchets Discworld goes into that topic several times over the whole series. Traditional Dwarves use male pronouns and look the same. There are important anatomical differences, but traditional dwarven women are not supposed to show them. Usually dwarven courting centers around trying to politely figure out the gender of the other without being so crass as to actually ask a direct question.
      Later in the series, businesses appear that cater to the emerging tastes of dwarven women with products like delicatly engraved Battleaxes suitable to wear with your evening dress or clothing made from micro-chainmail. Hygenic, stylish and does not chafe!

    Okay, but the maternity corsets are valid. The ad looks like it’s from the beginning of the 1900‘s, when corsets still were regularly worn. Not only do they provide great support, they can also give the desired silhouette (silhouette, not size) of the time. Maternity corsets had the special perk that they were adjustable at the sides, as can also be seen in the ad. That way the corset could conform to the size of the belly, while still giving great support and thus for example reduce back pain.

    • @jimpickens5936
      @jimpickens5936 Před 2 lety +51

      @@necrosteel5013 There’s an easy answer to that. The heavier your breasts, the more weight the bra has to hold. That’s why the bra has to sit somewhat tight to be able to actually hold that weight. This in turn causes the wire or fabric under the breasts to dig into the ribcage and the straps to dig into the shoulders. Sweating or exercising or even just wearing a bra for an extended period of time can then cause shoulder and neck tightness, and cause the skin to bruise or become sore to the point of actual open wounds.

      @@necrosteel5013 without going too far into tmi land, and keeping in mind this is only my experience, finding a properly sized and fitted bra gets very difficult and bloody expensive very quickly once outside of the standard 36-40 b-ddd cup (I've heard smaller ones are also a nightmare, but given I was already past a ddd in high-school, I can't speak specifically to that). The US also has random sizes tossed in the mix which rarely increase the cup but increase the band spacing in the back (dddd is one, I'm not sure if ddd is as well), making it hard to tell if the cup or band is the issue, not to mention consistency within brands tends to be pretty rare (specific cut/style within a brand, not between cuts since those are intentionally different). Add in a dollop of $70-$90 a piece (again, my experience the cost to find ones that are my size/mostly work for me) to something which digs in, or gapes, or causes bruises/lacerations, yeah, that puppy is coming off soon as I don't have to be near people. But let me say, I get enough folks talking to my chest with both a bra and tank working to minimize it, I'm certainly not going to wander around without both (not to mention, ow).
      There are a couple good resources out there that get into how to properly size/fit, and how to tell if a specific bra is the right size/fit, but gd is it a lengthy and expensive process sometimes, and sometimes bras suck. Necessary evil though for some of us.

    Interesting thing about male vs female anatomy: The male perineum (space between the testicles and anus) is about twice as long on average as the female perineum (in her case, the space between the vagina/ end of the labia and the anus). Another fun fact: The perineum is an erogenous zone in both sexes, but it seems only gay males tend to find out about this. (using 'male' and 'female' here to indicate I'm talking about sex not gender). The average length of the female perineum is about 3.90cm or about 1.53" - the studies that cause humanity to know this seem to have been courtesy of the doctors who need to sew that sh*t back together after it rips (or nowadays, is cut by doctors) during childbirth if the baby's head is too big. From this perspective, having a longer perineum is better for the female, as you don't want to rip/cut too far. Still, it seems evolution has been inconsiderate both of the growth of the human head over time, and of the evolutionary dead end who gets so grossed out thinking about it that he considers himself the clever one for remaining celibate all his life.

      @@rory0233I'm not at all an expert in the lore around the force... But the explanation I came up with for myself is the following: Since force users can, if they are strong enough, contact living people after their death. Clone wars did some episodes on how Yoda goes through a number of tests if he is strong (or goodhearted?) enough.
      If that's the case, that a strong force user can somehow have a part of themselves outlive death, than an traumatic event involving the force could impact other living beings.
      She was attacked by the force and seen a fall to the dark side with her own eyes.
      I guess even non froce users could be affected by the disturbance that creates.
      Also, I don't know if in a world where the force exists, depression and loosing the will to live could manifest in death even if the individual is not an active force user. As far as I know all living creatures have a bit of force in them.
      I'm terribly sorry if I miss out on some terminology or some facts. That's just what I concluded after seeing the frost six movies and a portion of clone wars (Yoda already passed said tasks that probed if he would be able to create his 'force ghost' to contact people after his death'

    I read a theory somewhere that Padmé did not actually die of a broken heart. Rather, Darth Sidious used the power to manipulate life and death (which he learned from Darth Plagueis the Wise) to transfer Padmé's vitality to Darth Vader. This is suggested by the way those scenes unfold side-by-side and how Padmé's labored breathing fades to silence as Vader's rises to its iconic hissing cadence. It also incorporates this ability, which Sidious introduced earlier in the film, in a more concrete way than merely serving as a motivator for Anakin's fall to the dark side.
