- M I Tarr Guitars. PART 2 of 3 Guitar Documentary of building a Telecaster style guitar.
The documentary is a fly on the wall day to day working life of Music Tutor/Luthier and Photographer Michael Tarr. The Ex British Steel Electrical Engineer working from his home Workshop and Studio in South Wales United Kingdom.
No explanation or narration is need, just watch and I hope you enjoy the film.
I film my guitar making progress to give enjoyment to others with an interest in guitars. And for my Children and Grandchildren.
PLEASE NOT..... There is more than one way to do any of the processes in building a guitar. Do what works for you and the tools/equipment you have to hand.
Also Please Note. All Health and Safety equipment were in place and used
when making this documentary. If removed it was only for filming purpose Many Thanks Mike Tarr
I could watch this man work all day long. He's a true craftsman
Hi Craig. Many thanks for that comment, it is very much appreciated. New video coming this week. Mike
@@mitarrguitars fantastic! I have subscribed
Nothing feels better on a guitar than a rolled neck , so much more comfortable too play .
Cheers Mark and your right there about the neck. Mike

Fantastic and so lovely to see your grandson helping! I will soon be building my telecaster from scratch and this has been a huge inspiration. Thank you ☺️
Hi Chris. Thank you so much for your comment, it is very much appreciated. All the best with you build. Best wishes Mike & Oliver
The mint guard, cream binding and the sunburst are just unreal, especially in the sunlight. Phenomenal work and beautiful guitar!
Hi Alex. Many thanks for you comment, it is very much appreciated. pleased you liked the guitar. Mike
beautiful & outstanding craftmanship ! best part was watching the lil man help ~ 30 yrs from now he will probably still be building your guitars . what a awesome legacy .
Hi Michael. Many thanks for a wonderful comment. I'm glad you enjoyed the film. Oliver and myself and planning a single cut guitar next, we will be starting it the spring. Thanks again... Stay safe Mike
With the love put into making that beauty, I guess it's a keeper huh? After watching this, I'm sure I'll have better dreams tonight apart from the bit when you tell me it's not for sale!
Hi Richard. Yes its a keeper to go with the Stratocaster I made last year for my CZcams. But it has proven so popular from it woods used point of view, I should consider doing another. Many thanks for you comment, it is very much appreciated. Best wishes Mike
How wonderful to see the little lad working with his grandpa and he stuck with it. Wet sanding is so boring but the little feller did a good job. Wonderful memories for both.
Hello Russell. Thank you so much for your comment. And you could have not summed it up better. That is what it is all about, and for others to get enjoyment out of the film is the icing on the cake. Many thanks Mike
Just started on my maple top mahogany body tele. The mahogany is actually reclaimed from a window frame. It's going to be my 5th build - in my backyard using only hand tools. I learned about planing the top halves and will do a better job now. Thanks for sharing.
Hello Alfred. All the best with your build, and enjoy to process. Not all jobs go to plan but you will learn something with every build you take on. Many thank for your comment, it is very much appreciated. Mike
At least there will be someone in the family continue the tradition 🎸

Stunning , Stunning , Stunning ,, Bravo Sir
Hi Brad. Thanks for your comment, glad you enjoyed the film.. Mike
It was really beautiful. Right up until the sunburst.
What was wrong with the sunburst finish?
Took away from what was a beautiful guitar.
@@danielgregory9564 that much was apparent from your original comment. In what way? Is there something wrong with the finish? Or you just don’t like sunbursts? Would you prefer no finish at all or a solid finish? I’m just trying to understand why you feel the sunburst took away beauty...
I have three guitars in different shades of sunburst. Love all three. But some shades are not appealing. This combination is what is commonly referred to as clown burst. The colors clash. Historically, guitar manufacturers painted their guitars in sunburst because they had defects in the woodgrain. This is not the case here. This top is ABSOLUTELY beautiful. Don't get me wrong. This is a beautiful guitar. I just don't care for the color scheme.
@@danielgregory9564 got it! Thanks for clarifying. I myself am a les Paul lover and I love “Iced Tea” bursts where the flame shows through to the edges. I can see what you mean here.
Wow. That turned out beautifully.
Thank you for your comment Josh. Mike
From what I can see the real skill here is patience. Taking the time to look into the detail. I've learned a lot. I've a lot to learn. Thx.
Hi David. Thank you for your comment, it is much appreciated. Patience and time effect people differently. On many jobs I won't do them in one go, like fretwork or carving the neck. I will split them so jobs don't get tiring. Just enjoy your build and the guitar will turn out fine.Best wishes from South Wales Mike.
Loved watching this video through tradesman at work well done shane from OZ

In ten year’s I want a guitar made by the little guy. Already learning the skills of grandpa. 🤟🏻

Hi Jim. I’ve had a lot of comments lately, but your is the best. I are 100% seeing what I’m trying to put over. Some really enjoy the film but don’t understand the silence. I thank you very much for the comment. And Oliver is a star, loves it in the workshop. Stay safe Jim E... Mike

Hi Paul. Thanks for your comment. I do enjoy the fret work, taking your time is the think. Stay safe Mike
I think the little boy is the one who did all the hard work! :)
Also, your compressor is as small as mine :)
Yes Your right he did. You don’t need a big compressor to spray a guitar. Many do it with Cans. Thank you for the comment. Mike
Thank you. Mike
Very nice
Thank you Andy, its one of my favourite guitars. Mike
love those clamps that resemble a caulking gun. great film, thanks so much.
Hi Paul, I’ve had the clamps 25 years or more. They are great and very strong. You can get them but hard to get hold of now days. Thanks for your comment, glad you enjoyed the film. Stay safe Mike

It's absolutely beautiful. If I was too order a custom shop guitar, this would be the finish. And I'm a big fan of the traditional vintage tint necks, as opposed to the more and more common satin or raw wood finish. Great job. Thanks for the vid.
Hi P.S Many thanks for your comment. I'm pleased you enjoyed the film, and yes i agree with you on the neck vintage tint, it looks great, and a joy to play. Thanks again. Stay safe ...Mike

You are the man, Michael! Such a great job, I loved every second of your videos!
Hi pluke963. Many thanks for the comment, so glad you have enjoyed the films. Just plan a new documentary film for 2021,starting it next month. Thanks again, Stay safe.... Mike
What a great series. I have taken up guitar building in retirement. More parts building than anything. I'm buying neck/bodies and putting it together with the hardware. This is enjoyable during lock-down but nothing near what you are doing. To have all the various skills that can make a guitar out of a couple of pieces of wood is fantastic. The finished product looks and sounds amazing. It gave me a great insight into how things are done. Thank you for sharing.
Hi Graydon. Thanks for your comment and I am pleased you got a lot out of the films. If I can be of any help just ask. Stay safe and enjoy you retirement with a great hobby. Best wishes..Mike
Thanks for sharing this video of your process, this guitar just turned out amazing
Hi Dave. Thanks for your comment. Mike
Really great video and a top Grandad . Superb guitar glad to see made in Wales .
Hi Richard. Many thanks for you comment, It is very much appreciated. From a sunny South Wales for a change. Mike
That is the best thing for scrap sand paper. Popsicle sticks, Square ended chop sticks and tongue depressors. Glue up a bunch of sanding sticks. Cut the bristles off old electric tooth brushes and glue a cut piece of the sanding stick on.
Hi Buhda. Many thanks for you comment it is very much appreciated. Hope you enjoyed the film. Mike
Absolutely amazing video, skill level and finished result was mouth watering to see.
