  • The 2019 Honda CBR650R:
    You may remember Honda's CBR650F model, well THIS!... Is the all new replacement... Doing away with the letter F and switching it with the letter R...
    Now producing a whopping 70kw at the crank and slimming down from its previous 210kg to 207kg... YES that's right... it forgot to stomach its 3kg steak this morning, but no matter because this newly developed CBR has taken a giant leap to becoming one of the best beginner sports motorcycles... EVER made!!
    OH WAIT!... SORRY.. sorry... this is the LAMS approved (restricted version) that pumps out 35kw of power... Yeah!
    None the less here at 6Tdegrees we thought it would be best to take on the restricted CBR650R for all you potential riders out there and be the first to give you our honest opinion...

  • @SuperFrodo95
    @SuperFrodo95 Před 2 lety +5

    There's a mob in Melbourne called "Dynobike" that de-restrict these. Seems like a great choice bike for the new rider. You can ride around for the 3 years (in Victoria) on the LAMS restriction, and when you're off LAMS you can get the ECU re-flashed and the intake manifolds swapped out for $700 and pretty much end up with nearly double the horses. Like getting a whole new bike.

    • @ThermicLight
      @ThermicLight Před 2 lety

      Just because you can de-restrict the 650R doesn't means you should. Namely because doing such comes with registration/insurance complications. Moreover it rather ruins the overall value of the bike because it's not an OEM conversion and not lawful because very few who do make that conversion ever actually spend the money to re-register the bike as being unrestricted.

    • @SuperFrodo95
      @SuperFrodo95 Před 2 lety +4

      @@ThermicLight I've been through this with modifying my car. There's nothing unlawful about it. Yes, you should update the LAMS status of the bike, but there's nothing illegal about modding vehicles.
      I find it rather pitiful that this bike literally has half the horsepower just to appease the LAMS market. You pay for all that engine and mass to be likely beaten by a 250cc Honda from the 90's. If you "shouldn't" de-restrict this bike, then you "shouldn't" buy it.

    • @ThermicLight
      @ThermicLight Před 2 lety +4

      @@SuperFrodo95 - Of course you can modify any vehicle but whether you can drive it lawfully on public roads is what matters. Besides if the process was so simple then dealers would happily do it for you. That they obviously don't shows the complications aren't worth their time.
      That said I completely agree with you that it's pitiful. Thus I wouldn't even recommend it to any lams rider. Rather if Honda had any sense they would reserve the 500R for lams and leave open the 650R for those with a full license. Instead of saturating the market with another freakig lams bike.

      @@6tdegrees The really baffling thing is that Honda didn't do a LAMS-specific restriction. They could have made it 42kW.
      MT-07 is only 180kg wet and yet gets 38.2kW. CBR650R is 207kg wet but gets only 35kW (...which is the EU A2 limit). According to the LAMS formula, Honda could easily have made the Australia version 42kW, i.e. 20% more powerful, and had an equivalent power/weight (bike weight & rider weight) ratio to the MT-07.
      I find it weird that Honda were so lazy about this (copy + paste EU spec), whereas Yamaha went to the lengths of sizing-down the engine and changing cam timings etc. to make a ripper LAMS bike.

    Motorbikes are such a good mode of transport. They are cheap to operate, easy to park & fun! I just want a bike to do the speed limit. If I want one with RR at the end of its name, and I want to race on the track, I will get one that goes faster (but I don't want to race on the streets). The less quicker I am on the street the less like it is I'll crash or, which is more likely, some other motorist will crash into me. This is a nice bike. Practical. Besides, after riding a CB125 anything is better. :D

      Its actually illegal to derestrict a LAMS approved bike, even if youre off you RE licence 😒 unless you have requested a manufacture representative to derestrict the bike.
      Forms will need to be filled out by a dealer stating that it has been a approved for derestriction.

      Then I could carry it though from Ls to full. The Honda seemed like a no brainer because most of the power was in the top end so you could still learn on it.
      I guess that's not an option here. I feel like I'm being forced to buy a small bike to lose money on when I sell it to get one that fits better.

It’ll cost a couple grand though. If you do it yourself, it’ll be considered unroadworthy and if you’re ever in an accident you’ll be on the hook for all property and bodily damages, and your insurance won’t cover you.
