- čas přidán 7. 12. 2021
- We're at the final stretch of Adam's extensive build of two xEMU-inspired spacesuits that's consumed the latter of half of 2021. But with the suits sewn up and wired with electronics, it's time for a full pass of weathering to give them some real character and history. And to cap off this months-long project, Adam and G4's Kevin Pereira suit up in the completed spacesuits and test their mobility and dexterity in a friendly game of chess! The perfect opportunity for a photo shoot and lighting tests before heading off to make our short film!

I don’t remember where I saw this , (think it was Kaumicosplay) that used oil paint instead of acrylic paint for weathering, which gives you more time to weather you’re prop then acrylics.
They look magnificent.
Forgot to pose
High school senior picture...or coquettish ingénue?
Very amazing guys and gals!
Stunning final result.
Hope there're more big builds like this one in the near future.
I don't have as much an aversion to clean costumes as Adam does, but the weathering on the white suit, and the way it brought out the mesh in the beta-substitute cloth, REALLY sold it as something worn on the moon. Fantastic build, and it kind of makes me want to build one - other than a "contagion" hazmat suit, it's about the only thing I'd wear going to a con right now. I'm thinking there's a way to achieve some of the look (say, just the right jumpsuit, with strategic padding) that could be modded to attach to a backpack to get a similar effect without god-tier making skills.
Most people have safety squints. Adam has creativity squints. I love having you in my life Adam, even if it's one-sided! Thank you!
That's so that he can see the values.
Feel the same way!! One-sided or not the man is fun to be around!
I like Kevin but he doesn't deserve that suit. No one does, it needs to go into a museum for best props ever made ever. Incredible work Mr. Savage
Makes you wish the suits were used in more than just a little advertisement.
They need to be on a big screen, in a theatre. They're so perfect, but feel so underused.
Kevin and Adam are like two grown up kids. It's hilarious seeing them together and how stoked they are about the suits.
I like how Kevin starts channeling Thomas Jane (Detective Miller from _The Expanse_ ) as soon as he puts the suit on.
Adam dressed his employer (who is constantly checking in on his progress) in the ‘roadworker orange’ suit while he got the white one, had “get back to work” blasting in his ears at regular intervals and made him pose with a litterpicker claw. This was definitely a power move and I’m so impressed.
Edit: he also literally put a beacon on it to “keep an eye on the status of his workers”
Is the orange the same as having a red shirt ? The hostile alien can see them first , you don't need to run fast , just faster then the other guy
What
I seriously would looove to watch a space movie with suits designed by Adam Savage
7:03 as a cellist I love that you synchronized the music with that clock / metronome thingy in the back of the frame! the time-lapse really feels connected to the "reality". Editor, GREAT JOB!
I know these are older videos. But in my opinion, these are some of Adam's best work. The suits look like you could do a space walk. Really nice job. Thanks for taking us along 👍.
I love how Adam's face and beard is getting weathered by the dust during the process as well.
At a photo op at Maker Faire, I asked about how dirty he gets and how he cleans up.
He laughed "There are days when my wife tells me to go clean up more before I can do anything in the house."
The dust in that shop has to be crazy! I want to turn on a Heppa filter so bad :)
Loved seeing Adam and Kevin suit each other up! It felt just like watching a work crew gear up for a job.
Adam you have perfected the art of playing dress-up. Your work is absolutely incredible, as always.
Watching Adam weather props is like watching Bob Ross paint. Always incredible.
While Bob slaps his paintbrush before painting, Adam shakes his airbrush paint, same sound ! x)
Norm’s photos with the good camera are amazing, what an incredible result!
With the shop as the backdrop for the photos it looks like it could be a steampunk movie.
its funny how perfect adams cave is as a sci fi background
When you did the king Arthur Medieval suit with Terry English i never thought you could outdo that series, oh boy was a wrong, this build has being epic to watch, and such an inspiration too
This is one of his BEST builds to date, gonna watch it over again, the Samaritan build was amazing but this one, off the hook
The resting squat is the best part about the suites features.
god i love this suit design, is perfectly clunky while not looking dumb, your a creative mastermind.
The pic where you guys are playing chess, definitely looks like a movie scene. Lol. Sorta tells a story, two astronauts stranded on a planet, just killing time.
That's our Adam, getting dirty and loving it!
Ahhh so cool 2 see Kevin with Adam. AOTS FOREVER!!!!
Little mars dust, little moon dust, little bit of grease from working on the spaceship and rover…. Perhaps a little alien blood. Cool!
This build is So Good! There was a pretty big jump in detail between eps 3 and 4 in this series. A loooooooong cut of the entire process for those of us who run build videos like others run Spotify would be greatly appreciated. 💖
I kinda wish he showed more of the sewing process. That would have been interesting to see, especially the patterning of the more complex shapes. Fabric just sort of 'appeared' without any process behind it
@@airamplane1234 probably because he didn’t sew it but the seamstress was featured in one of them.
@@N0peThankYou I know he didn't, but it still would have been nice to see what everyone else was getting up to
Wow.. that New York Soot made all the difference!
It's always so fascinating to see the weathering process, it's really like it's own art form
Smiling all the way through this! Looks like those two were preparing for a space walk. Is Adams cave actually in orbit 250 miles above the surface of the earth? It's all beginning to make sense now.
Adam Savage's Tested - where Adam builds brand new beautiful space suits or replica props just to beat the crap out of them to make them look worn out and used...the suits look like they were really on the moon...good job Adam and crew
Adam is a true talent when it comes to creation. I can’t believe how amazing those suits look. What I wouldn’t give to be able to think up and complete a project like this from start to finish. I know he had help but to think that he came up with all the design (with help from real world examples) is just stunning. Fantastic job Adam and congrats on your new suits! I know he will cherish them for the rest of his life.
This is absolutely amazing! I'm so jealous. One tip I've learned through Historical Reenactment and used through cosplay, for weight distribution on the body, split the weight of the suit between the shoulders and hips. You'll be so much more comfortable over extended periods of time when you do this and your back will thank you. It also helps you keep balanced better instead of being top heavy which improves mobility.
The pictures give me a very pleasant vibe of Ron Cobb meets Moebius meets Otomo. The feel of "real life in space", like Space janitors or something like that. Brilliant!
It reminds me of the song, “Rocketman” and how space isn’t an adventure, it’s just a job. I really want to see you do a series of shorts about a couple of blue-collar workers on the moon just trying to get the their jobs done and the weird business-as-usual, workday stuff that happens.
Would love to see Adam do a series based on the game Mothership. He would love the aesthetic.
Have a look for "space argument" that should satisfy your viewing needs...
Check out John Ringo's Gate trilogy.
Adam has really had the coolest job forever
I just used charcoal powder to weather a few pieces for my latest cosplay. I love to 'discover' that solutions I come up with are already a thing. Makes me feel I'm on the right track!
That's a great idea. Think I might use that trick too
Myth busters was my childhood, G4 was my childhood. if you told me that one day they would overlap, I wouldn't have believed you.
I love just watching Adam work on things in real time with no music. It is so relaxing and interesting to see his process. It motivates me to work on my own projects.
Adam you have truly out done your self.
This is perfect for shopping. No worries about covid with those extraordinary suits.
Well done Adam ... maybe now you will stop doubting yourself !
The last photo of the chess game was gorgeous.
I would love to see pictures of these suits walking down the street on a really foggy night...
Dammit, now I want a space suit!
That last photo, Chess Game, nailed it
I'm glad you made the Dorf joke that immediately sprang to my head
Been so looking forward to this! Gutted it's finally complete, I could watch hours more! :)
Adam, living his BEST life! Love it!
At this point it hits me-- this series needed to be a book. I know, not the same coverage. But that would be a neat reference.
Also-- I'll betcha nickle that there'll either be a super-duper space cloth material that makes the lunar dirt slide off OR there will be some kind of "car wash" thing that beats and ionized the dirt off. Somehow.
The suit provides sufficient mobility that Adam was able to assist the other suit-up operation. Brilliant design!
I could not stop grinning when I saw you being so excited and giddy. 😊
Those suits look amazingggg. And the back hatch you enter through looks like a lot of fun!
I was definitely watching, feeling your excitement, and thinking... Shouldn't be breathing all that Adam.
I'd watch a space version of the lighthouse with these two in it for hours.
The pose with the gripper stick is a hoot. I could actually see that in a movie.
"You touch it."
"I ain't gonna touch it."
"Hold on, I got something for this..."
Adam i truely a master in making stuff look older / used.
"Star Wars Colors" seems so natural for Adam's paint supply...
I think it's fun to learn all these tips and tricks from a professional. Love watching you work Adam, I have been a fan since Mythbusters.
I would LOVE to now see the operating manual and maintenance schedule for these suits.
This build was amazing. Thank you so much for this epic project. I love these longer format, multiple video builds.
"back to work"!
Omg that's the funniest thing I've ever heard him say! 😂
This series was amazing. This is clearly a humongous effort, but I feel like undertaking a similar project of my own someday is infinitely more approachable after having watched this.
Incredible workmanship !!!!!! Just amazing details and use of simple materials.
These suits look great in the brand new look but when Adam puts on the weathering they really become a thing. It never ceases to amaze me when he does this. Everything looks better. Good job👍😁🏴🇳🇱
Looks like another project where "One Day Builds meant more that you'd been dreaming that One Day you'd fulfill the dream of completing the project. ❤️ Beautiful work as always! You're inspiring!
This was the best series of One day builds ever! Just... blown away what you were able to achieve both yourself, and as a team. Excellent content as always, thank you Adam!
I am really loving this Big Build set and its great to see Adam bringing the people that help him in to shot and getting them to explain what they did. A lot of hosts would want the show to be all about them but Adam just loves to share the limelight with everyone and is always so happy to see what they can do its one of the things that makes me watch any show he is in.
Watching Adam use a (pounce?) bag is like watching a painter or sculptor create ❤️ Loved this long build. More please 🙂
Im so sad this build is over. From the crazy beginning of a lot of unknowns to watching kev and adam try on the suits and goof around with big ol smiles. Just awesome!
4:38 - You maybe "believe it's the case", but it's actually *exactly the other way around.* Using blue reduces the saturation without making it as dark (i.e., pulls it towards _grey,_ instead of pulling it towards dark orange, a.k.a. brown). So you are indeed totally wrong about that. But you're forgiven. ;-)
That's what I was thinking too, at least for where the paint goes over the fabric. I was wondering though, since they are contrasting colours, would it create the impression of the orange being more bold next to the blue paint? Or would the shift towards grey due to the blue paint on the orange make the orange appear less vibrant?
I just did a quick look at some examples of mixing blue and orange paint, which produces a brown colour. I wonder what effect might this have on painting blue paint on orange fabric compared to mixing orange and brown paint.
@@adammcinnes5615 - To get the contrasting effect you'd need to use enough blue to make some parts actually _look_ blue (i.e., by completely covering the orange in those areas), which I don't think was what Adam was trying to do, he was just trying to make the orange look dirty / worn.
Also, mixing blue and orange will produce "brown" (if you use dark blue) in the sense that it darkens the orange, but the key difference (compared to using black) is that it will produce a less saturated (i.e., greyer) brown. Which is a good thing if you're trying to make it look dusty.
22:24. The look on Kevin's face says it all!
I could binge watch Adam's spacesuit builds all day! Definitely inspiring and entertaining. Thanks for the videos!
After having watched all four episodes, I am TRULY impressed beyond impressed! Adam's sheer JOY in the final result was soo much fun to watch!
HAS ANY MODEL COMPANIES CONTACTED YOU ABOUT MAKING A MODEL OF THESE. THAT WOULD BE A GREAT MODEL, PERHAPS IN 120 SCALE
Love the weathering! Haaaaaaate dust, and powders on me. Especially my hands….it gives me shudders in the worst way thinking about it!
As you were weathering it made me think. If these really are future spacesuits, I’d guess NASA would eventually move to a darker color fabric to avoid the overly dirty look of their suits.
The only reason they don’t go with the darker colors is because it would heat up the suit
44:13 👍 definitely a good photo.
Fantastic work. It was really awesome to see the whole design/implementation of a prop suit. Really blown away that this only took a month.
What an amazing job, Adam. These suits are so epic, congrats to you and thank you for letting us be part of the built process
That chess playing photo is awesome. I kind of want a print of it
6:57 NICE JOB ON THE EDITOR! My OCD is VERY happy seeing the giant Swiss Army knife move in time with the music in this timelapse! I’m not sure if it was intentional, but MAN does that feel satisfying 🤗
Those look fantastic , I was waiting for Adam to say burnt umber lol
The final result is so awsome! You should've made a third one for you to use at comic-con
Pounce bag ASMR is very satisfying
I was so happy to see this upload!
Wonderful work as always!!
Theses suits have stuck me as odd and I could never say why. But I just realized it. They look old but also futuristic, to me anyhow. It looks like the suit from a 80s scifi movie that was set in 2100 or something
That’s the smartest oxymoron I’ve ever heard.
The design aspect of the entry stairs and the suit dock is as amazing as the suits themselves
Using complimentary colors (i.e. Blue on Orange) would desaturate. They're on the opposite ends of the color spectrum and so they absorb each others light waves. Using black would make a darker shade of Orange without desaturating.
You can actually mix black by using complimentary colors. 'Chroma Black' is usually made by mixing just Ultramarine Blue and Umber.
This was a fantastic series! Every episode sent me back to the short so how the new additions looked on the final product. I hope to see these suits other places in the future.
This series was absolutely amazing to watch
Simply AWESOME!! I see nothing but mind and talent!!
this is one of the coolest things you have done in a while , wasn't sure how they would look until you tried them at the end very awesome suit would be cool to see these in person hehe
Hey Adam, I must admit I'm quite impressed with what you've done here! I work for a spacesuit company in New York and we make a lot of parts for the xEMU as well as some EVAs of our own. It's been a treat watching you struggle with a lot of the same issues we encounter. I originally clicked on this video to see how you tackled the visor blowing as it is a difficult process to get consistently right (which explains why you outsourced it), but I was captivated by your whole build. Also, I understand your struggle with the brief and we share a similar sentiment, though I must say you missed a critical part. There is a pivot point on each side of the brief that allows for a forward and backward motion (with stoppers) and allows for greater mobility. That being said, I feel it was the right move to skip over that part of the project. Again nice work, you've definitely given me some design points to think about. Thank you for sharing your work!
I like that swiss army knife in the background of the timelapse shots
I so want these spacesuits for a game
Yay, weathering! This is what I’ve been waiting for!
Dorf Goes to Space and the nice Chinese lady just jumping in at random. Wonderful. Remarkable.
These suits are seriously epic. Everything you do just inspires me. You’re such a humble guy and I can only speak for myself, thank you for sharing what your skills and insights. 👍
That was rad!
Thank you for sharing that awesome four part build series, Tested Crew! 👍
Followed all the build videos and this has to be the most wonderful build I've seen on tested. Congratulations to the whole build team and tested crew...to infinity and beyond.
That chess shot 😙👌👌👌👌👌💕
sooo freakin‘ AWESOME!
