Adam Savage's One Day Builds: Dune Sand Compactor Replica!
Vložit
- čas přidán 28. 01. 2022
- Adam shifts his focus this week to assembling and painting up a 3d-printed prop replica of the Fremen Sand Compactor from the recent Dune movie! This wonderfully modeled and printed resin prop comes together with a little bit of machining for alignment and glue, and Adam's paint finish gives it an appropriate amount of dusty weathering, fit for use on the sands of Arrakis!

15:50 possible candidate for Adam incognito in Bene Gesserit Drag cosplay? ... hmmmmmm...
Adam constantly repeating "I hold at your neck the Gom Jobbar" to himself made me smile
More Dune would be INCREDIBLE! Denis is a true genius, and the designers he works with equally geniuses
Can we get a updated tour of Adam’s cave with all his new collectibles.
As an Australian I love that you occasionally are drinking Bundaberg Ginger Beer. It’s such an iconic Australian drink - it kinda lessens the geographic distance between us 😁🙏
Love how Adam says "I'm not gonna put this in the lathe", first cut to building is the part in the lathe XD. You sir are a national treasure
Yeah, when he was like, "I'm gonna put a screw on this part," I was all, sooooo, lathe then?
Edit: nvm her just put a regular metal screw in the connection. I thought he was going to cut threads onto one of the kit pieces. Yeah the lathe wasn't even necessary, he could have done everything ion the drill press.
Hey! These are the references I shared on the RPF! Pretty cool to see the result! Well done Adam! 😀
It looks like an Arrakeen Fleshlight
Someone will make that now with sandworm texture interior
I came here looking for this exact comment.
@@NeuroLazer55 dang!! Thanks for necroing this comment!
If “spray paint finger” is plaguing you, you might want to try one of those clip on spray handles. In the Netherlands all auto body shops have those for sale.
Always nice to see a Adam project on a COLD SNOWY DAY .
Agreed, woke up to about 4”of snow with more coming down. My back hurts already just thinking about shoveling:)
I like watching Adam because he is so animated. Even more so when you watch his videos at 1.5 speed. The other plus of 1.5 is you get to see more Adam in the same time period.
I would rather watch it on half speed and get twice the Adamtime
Great build! Marko’s designs are fantastic and always so much detail!
I just moved to a new town that has a maker space. I'm very excited to be able to finally utilize 3D printing and CNC in my builds. I'm currently working on my project list for the year to finally launch my own maker channel. Can't wait to share my work with the community! Thanks for the unending inspiration Adam and Tested team! I wouldn't be where I am without you paving the way.
I subscribed. Surprise me ;-)
@@jan-marcoreiners9748 oh wow thanks so much!
I'm subscribed. I know this is an old comment but hopefully you are still making. you could post quick videos or slideshows of builds in progress or finished.
Seeing the mess from the rattle can explosion makes me happy about switching over to an airbrush for priming and base coating things. Is it more expensive? Absolutely, but the level of control and ease you can get from it is 2nd to none.
About halfway through the video I found myself wondering what it would take to make the Sand Compactor into a pepper mill.
Hat's off for you sir. That piece is incredible!!!. You've just fire up the maker that I've been lack of. I've been at a downside for some months now and just looking at you making so incredible stuff and being yourself has been kind of a therapeutic way to get up and continue, what's most incredible is that a few days agó I finished the fist book of the Dune saga so this is a very magical and awsome coincidence.
I don't usually comment on YT but I just wanted to share what kind of beautiful impact you've made in my life. Thanks for all!!
Excellent impression Adam. Bravo 👏🏼
Love the NASA sticker on the side of Adam's Parts Washer. That's a very Tom Sachs thing to do...
YESS almost done printing it 😄
can't wait to put it together
A one day build to make a stand or showcase or both, fantastic!
Adam needs to do a cave tour every 6 months with all his new additions! This build was so good . Can't wait to see the paint up of the Painbox!
23:02 I love how much Adam enjoys shaking paint cans 😂
I'm a french fan of your work from star wars, throught mythbusters and now on youtube, thank you ! you're awesome, i want a place like your workshop for do my own projects !
Watching the film (4 times during the first week) and admiring the visual and practical grandeur of it (re: costuming details and the operation of the vehicles), I was rather *expecting* to see Dune stuff from you, Adam! Excited to see you bring it on!
I'm really surprised Adam doesn't use a cheap $5 "pistol grip" for spray-painting. I've always thought that was such a great investment for rattle-can painting.
In theory it sounds good but for a lot of people it entirely changes the way the can handles and if you’ve got 35 years of spray painting experience without one it’s like putting a weight at the end of your pencil.
At this point I bet Adam's rattle can muscles could create diamonds from raw carbon.
My thought, too. I started out with one of the cheap snap-in types, but later switched to the Rustoleum can gun, which grips the can around the neck. That is what I recommend to everyone now. It is a tool that I really think makes my painting work better and more accurate.
Another great build but I have to comment how much I love your wood bench vice, the clear panel showing the gears just dazzles me
I love Adams enthusiasm for his projects....
THIS was lovely and amazing to watch. Man, I hope to be able to catch up (with modeling ans making/creating stuff) some time soon.
Regards from Tabasco, México [Land of The Olmecs]!
Same here I would love to see an updated tour of the cave
Really enjoyed this
every time Adam moves the camera it feels like he is breaking my neck with all the right noises.... you know as a friend
Very good - this is an accurate description of what we experience as viewers.
Beautiful build! Love the Dune props! Would be interested in hearing what type of resin that is…
I don't remember it looking so cumbersome. Huge.
Great Job as always Adam. Love your channel. Keep me interested. 🎞📽🎥🎬
your Chaos Make me happy that Im not the only one who does this frantic
Looks great 👍🏻
"... you are going to see more Dube from me"
Yes. Subscribed!!
12:30 I like how you switch to the screen usable stool lol 😆
Was waiting for a Dune build \o/
i was never into Dune...but that movie was bonkers so, now i am :)
My cousins hubby taught Me how to paint professionally. Shaker cans should be swirled not shook. Shaking damages the ball baring and gets metal fleck in the paint and clogs the can faster.
I spoke with Giger before He passed quite a bit. Also Syd Mead, in fact I did work for Mead. Great guy. Originally those evaporators were painted metallic blue silver pearlesce then dirtied with olive drab and purple after fading with sand paper and wood rub. Wood rub the part after sand paper and then add the olive drab. Those are so pretty. These models.
Loving the patina work on the workshop, buddy ❤
Totally awesome dude
That tea set that the Fremen spit into and then purifiy water as part of a water sharing / tea ceremony . It is such wonderful piece of "Dune" world building that it begs to be remade .
A proper iron and aged bronze piece. You can almost smell the Nana (desert mint) and Spice.
Marko does amazing work on his files. He does serious research to make the files as accurate as possible and then still be printable. There are two patreons that i have enough confidence in the files of to pay for and his is one of them. Mr Savage made that print look stunning. Now Marko, get back to work (lol I'm messing with you Marko). You finished the new Boba Fett armor. We need more of your epic work.
May-15 1:58 PM I have arthritis so the spray can trigger from Ace hardware is a finger saver. Thanks for all the content from the cave.
One day build, three day waiting for paint to dry on the one day build. Great stuff you do, thanks for sharing!
Moar Dune! Thanks from another huge fan of it :)
It would be fun to make a Sand Compactor pepper grinder
Awesome sand compactor... Now to hitch a flight in the Spacing Guild to try it out on Arakis
Woohoo! Big shout out to Marko!!! His files are fabulous!
SO AWESOME GOOD SIR !!!
Amazing.
That wonderful drill paint mixer just chillin there as Adam maracas along lol
This is the funniest most chaotic paint job I have seen thus far
Successfully weathers the entire work area. keep up the good work.
Spray Paint accident in your Tom Sachs?!?!?! Adam, you're killing me... LOL UGH. Amazing work as always, good sir.
I just saw the swag.
I love the demerit badges.
I have earned all but one or two.
I could think of a few more lol
when I first saw the sand compactor in the first dune, I thought it was just some simple tool to get out of the tents they use, and while it is a tool for that, it is so much more complicated than I had first anticipated. Clearly the Arakans made the compactor to mimic the sandworms and how they move throughout the dunes, so I figured that if you wanted to make a "working" version of the compactors, you could put a speaker inside of it to get a similar effect as the movie. That is something I so want to do if I ever get a resin printer and use the files. I want to make a Bluetooth speaker out of the compactor so that it is a "functional" sand compactor.
Love the accidental shop weathering!
10 min mark: "that's gonna bug me..that's for sure " Rofl😄!!! Luv u adam!
Thank you.
BOY!!! That is one hell of a huge flashlight 😂🤣
It is so cool that replica makers have 3d printers to work with now. Making props like this that are so beautiful and accurate is satisfying. More importantly no longer do they have to hunt down and raid every Anzio Annie model kit ever made for universal greeblies.
Hey Adam! That was FUN! As you stated in the beginning the parts supplied were Virtually Excellent! They DID go together easily for you. The finished project was superb! You looked like you had GREAT FUN through out the assembly, paint and final processes. It was very satisfying watching this build, beginning to end! Can't wait to watch the next project! Have a good day!!!
Hello from Corridordigital, amazing insight on their episode, big fan
keeeeen for all the Dune content! :)
You really don't appreciate this print until Adam shows it after the brown paint goes on.
should try and build in a speaker into that like a bass so you can really move sand or dust =)
A "Thump" bluetooth would be perfect for that!
Straight out to the sand box with that
Happy to know you are a fellow bundaberg man !
I'd really like to make or find a "functional" thumper. I have some ideas, but man, would it be cool to see Adam create one.
Amazing. Next we need a thumper!
careful ADAM! i remember watching you growing up haha. Keep it coming!
OMG, Adam is a Dune nerd like me!
Adam Savage. I spy with my little eye is that Bundaberg ginger beer? Sold choice man..love your work btw!
Don't know whether it was a just me thing but I was taught with rattle cans to fill a sink with warm water and let the cans sit in the warmth for a bit before use.
I also use a ompressor to blow out the nozzles after too.
I keep all my nozzles in a jar full of turps. A quick blast of air and they're like new everytime
Inverting the tin for the last stroke cleans out the nozzle. 😁
@@peterbarratt8699Good tip! Works on most cans bit I've got a couple odd cans that just keep spraying when inverted
Adam: “I’m not gonna chock these pieces up in the lathe, that’s just too much work”
Also Adam: chocks literally the first piece in the lathe
Bundaberg ginger ale…a man after my own heart!
Ah Adam gives stuff character and a story to boot.
Totally “off topic”, but I finally got around to assembling my Ugears Christmas present!
Hexapod 👍🏼
Great fun!
😮that looks like it could turn into a flashlight or a powered fan for a cosplay build
Wow that must be a story quiet circular sander!! 🤣 It was running for a while while he was painting the green!
Love dune
Is this a 1:1 scale? It’s beautiful, but can’t help thinking it 20% too big…if it’s a show piece I guess it works perfectly, but as a hand prop it just looks too big.
That Bundaberg you drink!!! Nice build BTW
I loved the movie remake,
Just wish I had the for site to realize it was going to be broken into two parts , hence why I wish I hadn’t watched it,
I hope and look forward to Adam making one of the MANY costumes in the movie, one in particular (you all know which one) but this video is a nice start to it
I want a Dune Sand Thumper for sum heavy beats!
The print quality of those is insane, if they actually are resin prints like Adam said, the fact their isn’t any holes from support removal is crazy. Unless they’re resin castings, or filament.
They are. Standard resin print. Everyone can buy a cheap resin printer now a days and get the same quality
It would be very pleasing to see you paint and whether a model of one of the aircraft from the movie.
says he's not gonna use the lathe. First part worked on is on the lathe. ;) Love it.
Oh wow
Can't wait to see Adam sandwalk across a con floor someday.
19:00 is just Adam weathering his shop
When you are doing these builds you really should have two cameras setup that are always filming your work area on a wider view then one cameras for your regular up close shots like you regularly film. This would make sure everything is filmed, so if something interesting happens when you don't expect it, it will still be on cameras so we can see it.
Looks great. You could use magnets to hold that piece on instead of glue.
Siân Phillips as Reverend Mother Gaius Helen Mohiam nailed it for me!
The spray paint shack dance 😂
*off camera?
Yeh right 😂
Would love a “When things go wrong” compilation video from Adam :)
I want some Dune Part Two content from Tested
