Everett K Ross is an MCU fan favorite. He's gone from being a government antagonist in Captain America: Civil War, to being an honorary Wakandan in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. But then the first episode of Secret Invasion revealed that he's actually a Skrull! So long has this been going on? We break down every clue from the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe!

Now the question is, how long has he been a skrull was it just for this series, or has it been [mrs doubtfire the whole time].
Now, at first I dind't think that the MCU would waste an actor like Martin Freeman on such a quick death, and it seems like he was being set up for a Wakanda Forever sequel…but. I went back through the MCU, and it actually would have made total sense for Ross to have been a skrull since day 1. And if he was, that means that there has been a faction of skrulls working against the human race for years..and this skrull faction would have caused the superhero civil war, Thanos's snap, and the ultimate end of the avengers.
So let’s take a trip back through the history of the MCU to answer the question of when Ross became a skrull, and how long have skrulls been evil? I've got some theories here that are gonna blow your mind.
First, let’s talk about what the skrulls actually want here, and what exactly they’re trying to do. IN the comics, the skrulls have been villains ever since their first appearance in Fantastic Four number 2-a comic book that ends with the skrulls being forced to turn into cows. And then years later, some people eat the meat from those cows, and get the superpower to see through skrull disguise.

Nothing. It's just a fun, weird detail that I love pointing out at parties.

There was one, that one time. Anyways, the Skrulls were always bad guys in the comics-but in the MCU, they pulled the old movie villain switcheroo on us, and Captain Marvel revealed that theory were merely refugees trying to escape a holocaust at the hands of the Kree. So for 30 years, the skrulls have been searching for a new planet and even though Carol had a ship that could travel further and faster than any ever created before, they still never found a suitable homeworld. So now, some skrulls are thinking that they should just take over the earth.
In the comics, something similar happens. Galactus eats the skrull throne world, so the skrulls begin to believe in religious prophecy that after their world is destroyed, they will come to inhabit a blue world-earth.
The question for this video is, how long have some skrulls been plotting to take over the earth? In the show they specify that this is an attitude that has evolved post blip. After fury disappeared and danvers went off to help other planets.

But I think we’re going to find out that some Skrulls have had their eyes on earth for a while. They see how messy and violent human beings are, how weak our physiology is, and they know that skrulls would do a better job running earth than we do. We poison our skies, instead of appreciating the world that we have. That’s why I think that it’s going to be revealed that certain MCU careers-like Ross and rhodey, have been skrulls, all along [what!?]

All right, so now let's go back through the history of Everett K Ross in the MCU, and see if we can figure out exactly when he was replaced with a skrull. Let’s start with Captain america: Civil war. I love this movie, I think it’s pretty much perfect. But a lot of people have criticized how for Zemo’s plan to work, a lot of events had to line up just right. Like Bucky had to be arrested at just the right time, and Zemo had no control over when that would happen.
But there are other events in this movie that make a lot more sense if there was someone else besides Zemo who was working to make the heroes fight one another. A few years ago, Nando V Movies put out a great video about how Sharon Carter could be Zemo’s secret accomplice…after all, she does tell Steve where to find Bucky, and brings Sam and Steve their gear. - Krátké a kreslené filmy

Didnt agent hill say later in the episode, “ross’s imposter”. I think they were trying to say that Ross is not a skrull, one just copied him and Ross is still alive… right?🤷🏻♂️

I think the fact that Ross was medically treated by Wakandan technology is the biggest argument against this theory. It’s hard to believe they would be able to see that he is not a human.

Yes they mimic at the DNA level. If you have no reason to think this human isn't human then you wouldn't go snooping his genetic sequence while you're trying to save his life lol
Agreed, I think we're going to find Ross in one of those pink glowing chambers previewed in the trailers and that he was only "recently" captured. He's become too important to the Black Panther story line to kill him off.
Sharon Carter (Power Broker) is a Skrull. It would explain her behavior in CA&WS. Even if it wasn't the intention then, it will be now, given the pushback fans gave that plot point.

I can understand where Ryan is coming from, but I feel like Ross being a Skrull happened maybe after when Okoye broke him out of the prison transport. It would make sense for him to be under Wakanda’s watch/protection after how he basically laid his life and career on the line for them.

yeah, and changing loyalties after someone essentially saves your life from permanent disability seems a lot more likely than "surprise, i did it this all to be in your inner circle!"
My theory on ross being skrull is after val(skrull) who is working with gravik , arrest him change him with skrull and she knew wakandan will came to rescue him

i also don't remember shuri giving him a vibranium vertebrae. she _used_ vibranium to heal his wounds but that's more to do with some elemental properties of it, not straight up implants

I think he was a Skrull only after Wakanda Forever because he was more vulnerable because he is on the run.
Maria hill says that it is Ross' impostor in the beginning when she sits with Fury and Talos. Ross was never a skrull. The person impersonating him was just an impostor. It wouldn't make sense anyway for Ross to be in Russia anyway.

So I had a discussion with my dad about this and he pointed out that in black panther 1 the wakandans would’ve likely noticed something different about Ross or his biology when they analyse him with their computers while healing him
He would appear alien under anesthesia
But skrulls can mimic down a DNA level so it's easily believable that Shuri wouldn't notice this, his DNA would look human

Maria called him "Ross's Imposter" which to me implies they have him somewhere or he was unaware he had a skrull doppleganger. But I think the first is way more likely.

Absolutely - a Skrull can look like any living person, but that they can't come up with long-term memories without that intense (bonding?) process. If you take a look at Skrull Ross' dialogue in that opening scene - he doesn't refer to anything in the past. He just tries to pull information from discount Charley Kelly. Real Ross is out there - this was just a convenient costume for a skrull.

I think this was a “put out the fire” transformation. Meaning they don’t have Ross in captivity. They just somebody to quick impersonate Ross and found out how much about the invasion was known.
Ross bring a Skrull acutely makes Shuri's comments to him even funnier since she calls him a colinizer and since he's a skrull that's exactly what he was trying to do.
Heck trying to get into the government of the only country that has never been taken over is a bold move on his part

It’s stated in the first BP movie why and how he’s able to use their technology. Shuri tells him “that she had set the seat and simulator to the settings of a jet that he is already familiar with using.” When he brings up the fact that he has no clue how to use it. And Just like it’s completely different near the beginning of the movie when Shuri is using the same seat and simulator when she’s helping her brother by driving the car remotely.
I know the first few phases was a while ago but you should rewatch some of them because they answer a lot of your own questions.
Not too mention the first BP movie makes it clear when he is injured that he’s human not a Skrull due to the fact that his b!00d is Red not Green. They can mimic almost everything about being a human but the one thing they can’t change or mimic (again made clear in Captain Marvel’s first movie!) is human’s b!00d, just like the Kree can’t change theirs from Blue.
Great theory though! I think they took over his appearance during the blip. The real Ross got dusted like Hill and Nick, and the Skrulls took their places. So somewhere the real Ross is out there just like Nick was after the Blip. Maybe just like Nick off planet either against his will or willingly he’s gone.

I think we’ll see the real Agent Ross in a future secret invasion episode. I’m still wondering if Val, Thaddeus Ross, or Wilson Fisk are skrulls. They all have high positions in the MCU.

Not sure if we will see the "real" Ross at the end of the series, but I think we will see someone else found. And that is Rhodey. I think the version of him in the WhiteHouse is going to turn out to be a Skrull, and who knows how long he's been a Skrull? But they will find the "real" Rhodey in one of those mind prisons at the end, so that the true Rhodey can appear in Armor Wars.
Why waste him being in there though when you could have him like interact with himself seemingly as the imposter!!

I’ve looked up why Rhodey can walk okay all of a sudden without the braces? And a lot of articles and sources state that Shuri fixed him after the final showdown in EndGame. Plus Tony did say that there was a chance that he could regain the use of his legs in time. It wasn’t a massive chance, but still a chance. When he was talking to Nat near the end of CACW.
But everyone and everything seems to be pointing towards Shuri helping him walk again unaided after Tony’s funeral in EndGame. If I recall he wasn’t wearing the leg braces when he showed up in the first episode and the few other cameos he made during some other episodes of FATWS. The Wakandan’s helped a lot of people get better after the final showdown of EndGame. That was confirmed by the directors at the time, so it’s not a stretch that Rhodey was one of the people who helped during the final battle with Thanos. Even some of these breakdown channels also think or believe that is why he no longer has or needs his leg braces.
I’ve posted a link to a clip from the first episode of FATWS showing Rhodey not wearing the braces. If it doesn’t show up in the comments, change the comment settings to “Newest” it will show all comments including the ones that people think have been removed by CZcams, when all CZcams has done is hidden them.
FATWS takes place a few weeks after the end of EndGame.
Unpopular counter theory - Everett Ross isn't dead and is still being held up at the Skrulls secret nuclear power plant headquarters. If I had to take a guess, he'll probably be found by Nick Fury in episode 4 or 5. It would be a waste to kill him off now, we already know that he was married to Val and she's going to have an important role in the Thunderbolts when it resumes filming. Assuming Ross is still alive, he'll still be listed as AWOL from the government which will put him in an interesting juxtaposition with his ex-wife head of C.I.A., it's just too good of a character driven opportunity to pass up.
And if Ross is still alive, i feel like Wakanda will actually hide him.

I like the idea that Ross was a Skrull just after the first Blank Panther it can’t be before because when Shuri was healing Ross she would’ve known he was a alien though that would make the stakes higher and better if he was a Skrull from the beginning. But I think he was taken just after Blank Panther 1 as the Skrull can tape into the memories so they would know he’s trusted by Wakanda then he can do the rest of the things Ryan had mentioned
In Captain Marvel it's shown that Skrulls have very different physiology from humans, when he got shot , if he was a Skrull all along he would have definitely been outed by Shuri. My hypothesis is he was switched after Okoye freed him. He was a fugitive and on the run it would be easy to abduct him and replace him without anyone being the wiser.
Well... that kinda implies Okoye is a Skrull too and actually didn't save him, but abducted him.
I think a Skrull may have taken Ross’s form more recently in the timeline, which explains his quick death. I’m sure the real Ross is attached to some cart having his memories extracted.

They get injured in their human form they still bl€€d Green🩸it’s stated quite a few times in the first CM movie and shown when she injured one of them. So Ross wasn’t one in the first BP movie. I believe that he got dusted during the blip and that’s when they took his form just like they did with Hill and Nick as seen in the second Spider-Man movie.
It seems much more likely to me that the first time we saw Everett as a Skrull was this episode of Secret Invasion. But who knows, I've been wrong about things before. Occasionally.

It’s very clear that Ross was not working with Zemo in Civil War based on their interaction at the end when Zemo is locked up.
Val is definitely a skrull because she'd one of the few people who knew Ross was on the run giving the skulls the info to copy him without the risk she would have been in her human form all the time when she married Ross could she have been replaced sure we haven't had her long enough for that to make sense.

Between having Skrulls take over the lives of people and incursions of people from the multiverse, it's hard to make any characters death have meaning. I was just like, "oh, ok" when Ross died, because I assumed it wasn't the real him. There's too much duplicity already going on for any of it to matter.
I look at Comics & their movie counterparts just as I do soap operas. The characters will ALWAYS come back some how some way (i.e. Evil Twin, Skrull, Timeline reboot/revamp, reimagining, etc)
Regardless of where they take us, I’m hooked just off of episode one. Hopefully this show just hits on every episodes and we get back to the high quality MCU we’re used to

Ryan mentioned that Ross was good at flying Wakandian aircrafts, but forgotten that in the movie Suri made the remote aircraft a US version so that Ross, an American (scroll) could operate it.

The only movie I think Ross could have been a Skrull during is Wakanda Forever. Also regarding the point about Ross being able to fly the ship so well so fast in the first Black Panther, Shuri says she made it American style for him.

I loved the first episode and you make some great theory points, Ryan. If the show continues on it’s current trajectory and continues delivering quality episodes, Secret Invasion could be the shot in the arm the MCU needs. Especially if Loki season two is just as good! 🙏🏾

Everett Ross can not be a Skrull all along as Shuri might've discovered it. Also he was near to dying in Black Pnather so he should've shifted back to being a scrull then. So nooo... he is alive and well, and will appear in the series.

I don’t know how he can find dozens of Easter eggs in the episode but miss the part where they explicitly stated that Skrulls are immune to radiation. That’s such a major plot point.

But a nuclear holocaust WOULD destroy Earth's biome. It wouldn't be a blue world anymore. And just because THEIR dna is immune to radiation, it doesn't follow that all things (plants, non-variable fauna) would have that same immunity. Earth as a smoking cinder flies in the face of the assertion that they would be better care-takers.

Ross is still alive i believe, because in that first episode they have a scene where they kidnapped a person and one skrull uses the projection of that person and kept the real one in deep sleep. So at some point in future episode the real evert ross will be save by either G'iah or nick fury himself.
I’m guessing that he is still in Wakanda after WF and the Skrulls around Grafik thought he vanished/got killed or whatever and therefore took his role/persona, so after WF I’m thinking ✌️
And We see Gravik taking Nick Fury form and he’s not in a stasis pod! So I’m assuming he took Ross form and Knews Nick Fury was up in space! Not a big secret 🤫

So there's only one step I think could have been missed. And that's Val. Val could be a skrull, and could have given Ross's image to who we see in episode 1. But I agree that Wakanda Forever has a skrull Ross, just not sure its the same ross.

Ross is clearly still a fugitive in Wakanda, they have not resolved that because this is before Captain America 4 and Val is still in charge, ALSO, wouldn't have shuri noticed he was a Skrull when she treated him MEDICALLY?, just to top everything off, Maria Hill CLEARLY said that it was just a Ross IMPERSONATOR!

I am almost entirely convinced Sharon Carter is a Skrull. I am not convinced Ross has always been a Skrull a long time. I feel you are really reaching at nothing.

@@sarahclapp505 What further solidifies this in my mind is how she has that phone call at the end of Falcon and the Winter Soldier about how she has access to weapons, or whatever. That makes it perfect for the Skrull uprising.
I think Other Ross is also a skrull and has been since after the Incredible Hulk movie. Basically the skrull’s saw Ross was in a position to do things like create the abomination and mess with super human affairs in a significant way.
Like being one of the main driving forces to cause a super human civil war and/or have complete control over them. But, maybe it’s too obvious that other Ross is a skrull…
Also, Zemo’s plan playing out how it does doesn’t actually mean that’s the only way for it to have played out.
In Ohio he tried to avoid about half of the action in the movie entirely when he told the hydra agent that he wanted mission report December 16, 1991.
So, he kills him and knows that Bucky has the information. Also that if Bucky dies while the Avengers are currently arguing about what to do about the situation that’s going to break up the avengers. So he frame’s Bucky and kills some Wakandan’s for good measure to insure everyone is having a bad time.
They end up catching Bucky… well fuck. Good thing he’s got a backup plan for that and was able to pose as the psychiatrist… which is didn’t want to do more than likely.
Basically by the end of the movie Zemo is no longer on plan A. He’s probably on Plan S at that point.

He could not have been a Skrull the whole time because Shuri would have noticed when she did the medical treatment in Wakanda to save his life. It makes more sense that the Skrulls would have taken his place after he formed the relationship with the Wakandans sometime after Black Panther 1 because of your same reasoning - to get to the vibranium. They didn't form the relationship, they just took advantage of it.

I just wanted to point out that Val noticed something different about Ross in Wakanda Forever. She “tests” him by leaving the Kimoyo bead for him to find and springs the “long car ride together” on him to observe him because she doesn’t trust him. Maybe Ross was grabbed AFTER BP1 but, BEFORE “Wakanda Forever”….
The “Blip” (and the “Unblip” 5 years later would have been great opportunities for Skrulls to replace people during the instability/confusion that followed… It would also be a better explanation why Ross so easily and repeatedly betrays his country in Wakanda Forever… IJS
I was into this theory up until the 'got shot part' , as Scrull's shapeshift would not be so sofisticated to imitate human red blood, they bleed purple, so I would Say Ross was still himself and a human up until the end of BP 2 rescued by Okoye.
And currently safe somewhere in Wakanda, hence a skrull could have just taken his place out in the world to get info on the enemy about how much do we currently know about their plans, nothing more.
In any way looking forward to see how this story unfolds!

I agree that Skrull-retconning would be wonderful for the MCU... mainly because of the massive jaw-drop I experienced when I watched S1E16 of Agents of SHIELD, and then watched Captain America: TWS. I had no clue which characters were HYDRA, and that kept me glued to the screen for those last few episodes.

Everett Ross couldn’t have been a Skrull in Black Panther (2018) because he was kept unconscious from the gsw long enough to revert to a Skrull form. As seen in Secret Invasion, it takes a lot of conscious effort for Skrulls to play as other species. Effort that an unconscious and critically injured Ross would not have had.
yup. Not to mention how multiple episodes of secret invasion already proved how everyone got replaced only AFTER endgame. Not before. Gravik, skrull leader and leader of secret invasion was still working for Fury at the end of Endgame, cause he was part of the group gathering material for Harvest.
I've watched this episodes three times already. During the third time, I noticed that at around 10 minutes into the show, Maria Hill is speaking with Fury and says "Agent Ross's imposter". Using the term "imposter" implies Agent Ross is still alive and someone was temporarily impersonating him. She would have used a different word if he was dead and had been replaced by a Skrull a long time ago.
Your analisys of the MCU timeline regarding Ross is awesome. I'd say he was replaced between CW and BP, since that's where we see his personality shift.
If Ross was a Skrull before Secret Invasion then when he was shot in Black Panther his blood would be purple yet it was red.

I just love that the MCU has 2 actors from The Office who played the same character. Martin Freeman who played Tim in the original British office, and John Krasinski who played Jim in the American version of The Office.
So Wakanda's tech wouldn't have detected something wrong with his anatomy even though he's mimicking humans? Didn't they perform at least two surgeries on that guy? lol
Except that Ross is locked up by Val currently...isn't he? So isn't that just a Skrull impersonating him? Also, the Wakandans would have figured out he was a Skrull when they were healing him.

Its cool to see Secret Invasion adapted on screen, but I'm thinking the whole Ross being a Skrull at the start of the episode is something else entirely. I don't recall Thanos actually finding Wakanda, but knew the stone's location. So with our Ross being housed/protected within Wakandan borders, it opened a shoddy job for the Skrulls: he's off grid, no one knows he's off grid, thus even without him in Skrull custody, there's nothing to suspect taking his form. One of Gravik's warriors infiltrating Shield or the CIA could have given enough info for this warrior to pose as Ross to speak to Prescod and get out. It also fools Hill pretty well because of her lack of time around Ross.
We have 5 episodes and a sequence of bodies in bags that could be some new tech way of Skrulls taking someone's form. I'm fairly excited.
