TRYING 9 FOODS IN MEXICO'S FOOD CAPITAL (Oaxaca) // MEXICO TRAVEL VLOG

  • Today we are trying Mexican street food for the first time! We made our way to Oaxaca (pronounced Wa-ha-ka) because it is known as the food capital of Mexico and it did NOT disappoint! We came upon a market that popped up near our hotel and had so many traditional Mexican dishes for us to try. We managed to try nine different foods before we were too full to take another bite.
If we had to pick favourites, Mico would choose barbacoa and Nicole would choose nieve, but honestly, nearly every food we tried was delicious! We loved the memelitas, empanadas, molotes, tejate, tlayudas, and pastries we tried, but Nicole will probably never have chocolate atole again (sorry Mexico!).
If you ever find yourself in Oaxaca, we highly recommend you find a food market and try as many dishes as your stomach can handle!

Barbacoa was actually the precursor to American BBQ. It made its way from the Caribbean all the way through Mexico and finally to the US where they adopted the method of slow cooking meat underground. The difference is that Americans developed above ground smokers to cook their meat. Also, the word “barbecue” comes from the word “barbacoa.”
