- Mexico City does not have the best reputation as far as safety goes, but how safe is it to visit Ciudad de México in 2022? In today's vlog we will talk about how safe we felt walking around Mexico City while we tour this bustling city! There is so much to see in Mexico City and the best thing is many of the big tourist attractions are located in a small area downtown, making it a really accessible place to explore on foot. We were able to visit Santo Domingo Plaza (Plaza de Santo Domingo México), Mexico City Congress (Congresso de la Ciudad de México), Mexico City Post Office (Correo Mayor), the Zócalo (Mexico City's main square), The Opera House (Palacio de las Bellas Artes México City), and took in the incredible views from the Sears building (yep... the Sears building). Importantly, we also tried local (and super affordable) street food while we led ourselves on a tour around the city!
In this video we do our best to share a bit about Mexico City as we explore. The establishment of Mexico City comes with such an incredible story, and learning about it helped us understand why the city was built on unstable land that has led Mexico City to be continuously sinking! Tune into today's travel vlog to learn more about this interesting fact!

======================
Hey there! We are Nicole and Mico, full-time travel vloggers searching for adventures all around the globe. In March 2021 we quit our jobs, sold our belongings, and hopped on our first ever one-way flight leaving our home country #Canada. We believe #travel builds understanding that reaches across culture, language, and boundaries, and we want to share our experiences as we create connections all over the world. If you like learning about unique places, new cultures and different foods, then come follow our adventure as we explore all our beautiful planet has to offer.
Did we miss any awesome Mexico City sights we have to see the next time to visit 👀? Let us know!
Yes you missed on of my favorites, Sanborn's department. As you look at the palace of beautiful arts, it's just about a block away to your right. You will notice all the blue tiles on the building. There is a beautiful old restaurant inside. The food is only average, but it just feels good to set there and look around.
Ah yes! We stumbled upon it the day before we filmed this video but we didn't have our camera at the time. We remembered it was beautiful though! We will be sure to catch some shots of it when we get back to Mexico City one day 😁
There's a very little church very close to the latinamerican tower where you can clearly watch the renacentist and modern arquitecture in the same picture.
Amazing we did not know that! Sounds like they would be an amazing view. Thanks for the tip! 👍
The great Chapultepec Castle and Forest! I was just in CdMx some months ago. A few days wasn't enough.
Mexico city is our favorite city enjoy it
Awesome! Thank you both!
GORGEOUS CITY¡¡¡
It really is!
Mexico really does have so much to offer visitors. We love it
My beautiful city! Glad you liked it!
We really loved it! You have a wonderful city!
I lived in Cuernavaca Mexico for a summer. I took several weekend trips to D.F.. Stark contrast between the big city and a state like Morelos. We had business in D.F. one weekend and we had hired a local driver to chauffeur us around as we needed some legal paperwork translated and notarized. It was one of the most fun trips we have ever had. This guy drove us around in a town car wherever we wanted and even came to lunch and drank beer with us.
other hand, right to protect and secure Nature great landscape friend
Yes the park does a good job at keeping the environment relatively untouched. People can only walk in certain areas which helps reduce our impact while we enjoy it. We were impressed by their commitment to the environment despite being such a huge attraction.
I am a new subscriber and I like the energy you have and the good spirits, enjoy Mexico City.
We're glad you enjoyed the video! Mexico City has a great energy that we just loved. We hope to come back one day!
bad and tragic things happen everywhere
@@Death2Dust yes of course. Mexico is a great country but the society need a hard reflection about the violence between mexicans people.
Hi guys. I'm really happy for you. Mexico is an incredible country. One interesting fact is that in the time when Porfirio Diaz was the Mexican president, he fell in love about the European lifestyle, and he decided to build some representative buildings like Palacio de Bellas Artes and el Palacio Postal. By the way, the interior of the Palacio postal was the inspiration for the Disney movie "Coco". Greetings....
We just looked up the movie Coco and now we have to watch it of course! The European architecture scattered around the city is so interesting. Thanks for sharing that detail with us!
Automatic fan! thanks for sharing such a beautiful video of one of my favorite cities, greetings from Arizona.
Loved it and we can’t wait to go back!
You welcome guys enjoy Mexico !!!
Thank you so much!
You guys are so great You Tubers and super funny Enjoy my city "CDMX" México City Greetings from Southern California USA 🇺🇸 🇲🇽 🇺🇸
What a great city! It completely blew us away. We wish we had more time to explore as there was so much to see. We hope more people learn about how wonderful CDMX can be for a destination! ❤👌😁
@@nicoleandmicogo to Guanajuato
Just did a quick Google search. Guanajuato looks gorgeous!

Best tacos ever!!! 🌮❤️👏
there is a restaurant in the top of a Hotel on one corner of the zocalo. I was lucky enough to see the dancers from there and the drums and later see a magic full moon. Mexico city can be so astonish.
That sounds amazing!
Nice clip I enjoyed.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video!
EL EDIFICIO DE CORREOS EU UNA OBRA INCREIBLEMENTE HERMOSA, PARA MI UN EDIFICIO DE LOS MAS BELLOS QUE HE VISTO
¡Acordado!
Welcome to Mexico City! The City that has it all. #CDMX
Thank you! We could not agree more - what an amazing city!
Bienvenidos a mexico chicos
¡Gracias!
That whistle at 10:42 hahaha
Haha we didn't even notice!
Welcome to México!
You have an awesome country!
Min 6:22 Plaza de Santo Domingo was one of the location set for Godzilla: King of the Monsters movie.
Wow that is so cool! Mexico City is an epic spot to film movies
Hi love your videos 😁
Thanks so much! We are so glad to have you join us for our adventures!
Porfirio Díaz was the president of Mexico that you referred to when you were in the post office.
Love your video! If you decide to come back please let me know, we would love to meet you and take you to some beautiful places in Mexico City ❤️
Thank you so much, your offer is so generous! We hope to be lucky enough to visit your gorgeous city again one day!
Fun fact: That "mexican" Sears is no longer related with the original Sears you know. As someone pointed out in the thread, the whole Sears local operation was bought by a mexican capitalist in the nineties, and they decided to keep the same name because Mexicans were so fond of the brand.
Don't know if you knew but, you can come in to Palacio de Bellas Artes for free to the murals area (tickets are for special exhibitions only). Also, many museums have a free pass day, most of them on sundays.
Obvious places to visit: Reforma Av. stroll, Roma-Condesa-Juárez neighborhoods, Coyoacán, Chapultepec Park, Templo Mayor (the archaelogical site is free to watch, for the museum, you need a ticket), Polanco, Zona Rosa, Parque La Mexicana/Santa Fé. All of these are in the same walkable radio (except Santa Fé) and there's a ton of youtubers guides on this places; take them as general guide, but look for your own adventure, seems like you're good on that. ;)
Those sites are further away from downtown but are great and much less crowded: San Angel/Chimalistac, National University campus/Centro Cultural Universitario-Espacio Escultórico, Cuicuilco pyramid (allegedly, the oldest pyramid in the Americas, that nobody knows), Xochimilco. Again, there's a ton of reviews and guides on these sites by youtubers.
czcams.com/video/qACP5Glc-r4/video.html
I'm not part of the tourist council of Chimalistac, but this place amazes me because you can't believe this spot it is in the middle of this gargantuan city.
People is not joking when they say you can do a different thing every day in Mexico City for the rest of your life!
Hope this is still useful. =P
Wonderful, thank you so much for the detailed information and for sharing it with this community. We are no longer in Mexico City, but we will keep your comment ready to access for the next time we are lucky enough to visit! There are some great ideas here ,and yes definitely some excellent resources on what to do in in CDMX here on YT
2:10 That gigantic building had to be rescued from destruction and they built a ginormous platform underneath to rise it and level it.
Wow that's insane. We can't believe how much the buildings are changing in such a short time period. Wow!
What is seen in the video is a great influence of the Spanish conquerors and that is why Mexican society is a mestizo people proud of their indigenous roots that are also Hispanic.
Yes the history was so interesting. We spent quite a bit of time in the anthropology museum and it was so fascinating to learn about the culture and colorful history.
Es la mejor ciudad del mundo!
¡Es muy increíble!
The Best way to know a country is by it's Street food.
Agreed!
Well I dont know who told you that the day of the dead is not a huge thing in México but it really is, almost every house has an altar and the cementaries are full of flowers, food and candles.
O wow really? We heard there are many ceremonies across Mexico but we were told the parade is not as big as it was in the James Bond movie. Is that true?
I can't say about Mexico city's parade,
But when I was a child 5yrs old (1996) or younger I remember in my town in Puebla we would go to the cemetery at night it would be light up with candles. There would be food and music and it's been like that since my grandparents childhood and their grandparents so I'm told.
@@nicoleandmico the parade is a new thing, maybe 6 or 7 years, 1 million people in the streets, but the real festivities of Day of the Dead are home, we buy food, candles, sugar skulls, Cempasúchil flowers and put fotos of our belove ones in the altar to welcome them at midnight, many people do the same at the cementaries, so the real meaning of the Day of the Dead is to celebrate the reunion of the dead and the ones who still remember and love them, is a more intimate thing.
Such a beautiful tradition. Thank you for sharing that. We would like to be in Mexico one day to witness it in person.
That is so lovely. Thank you for sharing a piece of your culture. It sounds so beautiful and wholesome. We would like to be in Mexico one day to see it 🤞
❤️❤️❤️🇲🇽👈☝️
Awesome country!
Yummy🥂
Great video of an awesome city! (BTW: CDMX was not built on a lake, it was built on an island in Lake Texcoco.) You probably mentioned the sinking of the city a bit too much: we all know that. Have fun in your travels!
Good to know! Yes we should have clarified it a bit more to talk about the island! We had such a great time in CDMX and feel that everyone should know how awesome and vibrant the city is. Thanks so much for watching 🤗😁
👌👍😁
🌌👍🏽🇲🇽
We really enjoyed Mexico!
I would highly recommend any tourist before going to México to read a little bit of history.
Yes there is so much history. We learned lots while we were there and also at the big anthropology museum but still there is so much left to soak in. Thanks for watching!
A couple of things guys, the population of Mexico city is 8.9 million ppl. It gets confused with Mexico city and metropolitan area, which adds the population of several villages and towns around. (I am mexican and still dont get it). also, the day of the dead is celebrated like way more in other states and towns than in the city. And last, how shocking is it for americans to find out that Mexico is not yellow or sepia like in the movies? haha jk welcome to Mexico guys. nice video
Yes the population was so surprising to us but I think when including the metropolitan size the city certainly breaks some records! And wow would it be cool to experience the day of the dead in the towns. We have made it a goal to comeback to Mexico one day to see this festival in person. Do you have a recommendation of where it would be best experienced as a foreigner? Hahah yes it wasn't all sepia like the movies, more beautiful and blue as we saw once we hit the coast of Puerto Escondido 💙😄 thanks for having us in your beautiful country 😊 (ps we are from Canada 🇨🇦😁)
You guys went to Templo Mayor ruins? That the must in MxCd
We didn't go into the Templo Mayor museum but we viewed the ruins from above and took a great walking tour where we got to learn more about them! It was great!
Have you very been in Mexico Estado de México?? At the north area as Cuautitlan Izcalli as invest to retired , it is so close from Mexico city and have everything to give the american retired people good quality life...
No, we haven't had a chance to visit!
@@nicoleandmico Cuautitlan Izcalli as invest to business so cheap is good for as induatry, wh, malls... it is so close from Mexico city and have everything to give the american retired people good quality life...they have many differents around 4 cardinals point around 2 hors from town as Querwtaro, Hidalgo, Guanajuato, Michoacan, Cuernavaca and Mexico city is in 60min btw awesome channel 👏
If you like movie filming sites in Mexico City, check out the Insurgentes Metro station for some awesome memories of Arnold Schwarzenegger's Total Recall! (Apologies if already commented).
Oooooo I (Mico) would have loved to see that!!! Total Recall is one of my favorite movies too! I think we just found another HUGE reason to come back 😆 thanks for the tip, I love it!
@@nicoleandmico I used to live in Mexico City, so when I first saw Total Recall in the theater years later in the States, I said, "dang, those subway cars look just like the ones in Mexico City and Paris. (The French built the CDMX subway). And then there they were, at Metro Insurgentes, and I freaked out publicly. Several neon billboards (Peñafiel), and the VYR pharmacy are very prevalent and were there when I visited a couple of years ago. Remember: the Johnnycab scene.
Sears in Mexico was buyed by Carlos Slim, one of the wealthiest men of the world.
Y eso que tiene de relevante!?
So cool we had no idea! We're glad we were able to visit!
It was a cool fact!
The taco train is automatic once you taste it.
Right?! Couldn't agree more 😄
On the way again?
Enjoy!
We were actually in Mexico City just before Christmas! We had to race out of Egypt in order to make it back to Canada for the holidays because Canada put really strict entry requirements on travelers coming from Egypt. If you saw our Christmas video where we showed us coming home for Christmas we explained it a bit more there. It turned out that Mexico was an awesome detour before taking a small break back in Canada. We loved soaking in the sun before getting to the veeeeerrrryy cold Canadian winter.
Nicole and Mico In the comments of the Christmas video, you told me your next travel plan is South America, so I think your trip to Mexico is the new post-Christmas trip
@@andysrunning3429 Yes, that's right! South America is after we stop home for Christmas. Sorry for the confusion! We went from Mexico to Canada (we have made a few videos here in Canada as well) and after Canada we are off to South America. If all goes according to plan we will be in Argentina on Feb 11!
Nicole and Mico my understanding is wrong.
Mexico travel is very really great, nice video!
Thanks for your share
Thanks so much for continuing to follow along! We will have another video ready to share on Wednesday 😃
Que hermosa sonrisa tiene Nicole
Thank you!
Where are you guys staying ?
We have actually left Mexico and just made it to Chile yesterday!
hi
Hi! 👋🏼
Beautiful woman!
Thanks for watching!
What about tacos , did you like them ?
We loved them so much that we went back to the shop in the video to more times over the next two days 😆
@@nicoleandmico I sugest this candy from Trapiche del Rosario Veracruz, they are : Jamoncillos de Cacahuate...they are heaven in earth, really ¡ try them
@@nicoleandmico TRY Birria. Tacos de Birria and Quezabirrias
The next time we are in Mexico City we will definitely give that a go! Thanks for the suggestion!
@@nicoleandmico Yo are wellcome
What barrio did you stay in?
I don't recall what the neighborhood was called, but we stayed right next to the historical centre of the city. It was a great location to explore the city from!
Der Buchhandel Berlin Germany
Thanks for watching!
for the real expirience for 'Dia de muertos" go to Patzcuaro Michoacan o Tzin Tzun Tzan
We just looked up those two places - they look incredible for Dia de Muertos! We will definitely keep them in mind :)
those tacos are healthy. The USA's definition of health is incorrect.
Healthy or not they were absolutely delicious. 10/10. We would visit this tiny taco stand again in a heartbeat 😝
Nice video but a few wrong facts
Thanks for your comment and thanks for watching! 😊
