    Does anyone feel like basically nothing has happened in the few most recent episodes? There's really only two storylines right now; rue's storyline and cassie's storyline, and it feels like neither have really developed much at all. It feels like theres so much focus being put on the 'feeling' of the show, that it's losing any actual substance or plot development. Nothing is cohesive, theres no flowing story line that ties the characters together. It's incredibly disorienting. What really gets to me is how poorly the characters are being fleshed out. What do they all do? Are they still in school at this point? What are their goals? Who is Dominic Fike supposed to even be, other than a plot device? What happened to all the other side characters?

    I appreciate Noel finally addressing this: they’re teenagers. I see a lot of people on Twitter discuss how stupid and mean the characters on the show are. They’re teenagers, they’re capable of being horrible and make stupid decisions. For example, I see everyone on Twitter talking about how Cassie is stupid for falling for Nate despite him being a genuinely awful person and being her best friend’s ex-boyfriend but that’s almost every teenage girl that I knew back in high school, myself included. When I was in high school, I went through something similar where I wanted this one guy to love me so bad and I changed a lot for him and even changed my morals and viewpoints just to appease him, even though he was such an asshole towards me. I related to Cassie in wanting someone to love you so bad that you could change yourself in order for them to even look your way. So, of course it’s frustrating to look at because we’re molder and we know better now. So, glad that Noel pointed that out!

      I agree. After watching the show I realized other people saw the show differently. there are people being fans to the characters or hating them like you said. But there were far more deeper backstories to it than labeling who is good or bad.
      Ans also same with changeling yourself for someone else. Just happens when you don't have a good self esteem. Not always from a lack of a father just a lack of good parenting. Someone to tell you your worth more than just looks or anything else. And that your enough as you are. Her mom literally only boasted her for that. So why would she have a personality if thats all she thinks isnt important

  • @fallyhally1234
    @fallyhally1234 Před 2 lety +1636

    Honestly The only thing upsetting me about this season is the amount of screen time they dedicate to just.. sex. We don’t need a montage of every character having sex, it’s taking away from a lot of the dark and very real issues and just sexualizing and almost glamorizing it tbh. We shouldn’t think Cassie and Nate hooking up is hot.. he’s a sociopathic narcissist, emotionally love bombing a codependent victim. We should see more of how Nates abusive tactics are causing her to spiral (which we are finally getting more of) but it still feels more like a struggling love story than a toxic dynamic.
    Like I can’t be the only one who thinks its weird how much this season is revolving around Cassie, feels almost like they’re exploiting the actress and her body at times with how much they make this girl take her t!ts out. Just my unpopular opinion.

I was actually considering watching this show, but when everyone started talking about that aspect of it, it’s kinda turned me off to it. i feel like it definitely does romanticize addiction to an extent. coming from someone who grew up around hard core drugs in my family, i agree with you though. but there are def times when it’s putting a light on these drugs, and at times it makes it seem like “ooh, that looks fun, and maybe it would help me in some way, i might try it” but then it almost immediately switches over to the bad part of drugs. the part that ruins lives and relationships, and makes you change your mind about your previous thoughts. i like that it shows both parts though, because it really does give an insight to what being an addict is actually like, and how it ruins so much.

    I personally think the way that euphoria is stylized is purely for the artistic part. It’s another world it’s not very relatable in that sense we don’t even know what city or state they live in! So it’s meant to focus a lot on the emotion behind those moments that these characters find themselves in and I think it’s smart because it’s like an internal yet romanticized view of the ugly reality they’re all facing and that’s how they’re coping with it all. Rue is the narrator so I’d like to believe this is all from her internal perspective, but of course this is just my take from your comment on it. But overall I do agree the aesthetic importance over the delicate delivery of a very bleak issue is truly overshadowing and almost a tad dismissive of the very real and devastating reality many teenagers do face.

    The show is really not for me, but honestly it isn’t the worst thing ever. I don’t like how the writers handle certain insufferable characters sometimes but I can acknowledge that teenagers can be quite complex at times… but at the same time I can’t help but notice that this show is aimed more for Mature audiences while younger audiences, typically under the age of 18, enjoy watching this show because they find it relatable. I’m not saying media automatically nudges someone to do self harming acts, but the way it’s presented reminds me a little too much of 13 reasons why and leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth… however some people view what they do in the show and their characters as well as the cinematography to be artistic but that in itself is a subjective argument. However, some characters can be quite entertaining at times because it’s clear the actors themselves resonate with the people that they are playing.

    What I really liked about Euphoria was how well they showed each side to every story. We learn why Rue is attracted to her addiction, she wants the silence, the calm. It shows how someone could gravitate towards substance abuse. However, it isn’t subtle in the way it depicts her relapses and the darkness that comes with addiction. Euphoria was truthful even if a bit dramatic, and that’s a rare thing given that most of the time drugs and alcohol are either demonized by the media, or glorified in music and tv. Euphoria does a good job of displaying the entire picture of a situation not just what people want to see.

    honestly season 2 didn’t offer us much closure on the big plot points in season 1 and the characters are not evolving.i understand that there needs to be conflict for the show to go on, but the fact that everyone is still dealing with similar issues from s1 is kind of redundant... (spoilers ahead)
    in the final episode of last season, we were all wondering: what will happen after rue overdoses a second time? what will happen between rue and jules?
    they brush over the fact that rue overdoses a SECOND TIME like why is she not in rehab again? wouldn’t she be in a much more strict, controlled and professional facility?
    then, rue and jules just get back together like jules leaving wasn’t a big deal…. (they brush over it quickly at the party in ep 1 but that’s it…) also, the writers forget jules’ fear of rue would relapsing without her AND RUE *ACTUALLY* DOES AND JULES FEELS TERRIBLE… BUT THEN THEY KISS AND ARE “BACK TOGETHER”, as if everything was ok??
    also why does no one tell maddy “don’t go back to nate BECAUSE HE CHOKED YOU AND HES AN ABUSER(like they’re just like “oh maddy, you deserve better” and no one stresses the toxicity and DANGER of their past relationship) like in s1, there was a WHOLE POLICE INVESTIGATION. IT WAS SERIOUS.

I agree with Noel in that the entire time I’m just waiting for them to get back to those two. The funny thing is the only characters I respect in the show are the drug dealers. Maybe that has to do with those 2 are the only ones who can keep their head straight and make rational decisions that benefit their position (expect drug dealing obviously).

    • @becauseofreasonslol
      @becauseofreasonslol Před 2 lety +34

      I honestly believe that this isn't a problem. I think if the characters in a show are intended to make bad decisions and written like they should make bad decisions then it shows good writing. If characters are supposed to be good people and make dumb/bad decisions that are portraied as them doing a good thing that shows bad writing (see the flash from like season 4 on) And also, Ali, Rues lil sis and mom are characters I'd like to see flashed out. I think the show in general is good, with some small issues that are mainly pacing and/or unpredictability (the last thing isn't actually bad it's just annoying as fuck). And saying that the drug dealer is the one making the rational decisions is kind of a contradiction in itself...

I’m a recovering addict, and a lot of the time the show definitely seemed to glorify drug use in my eyes, but I didn’t shy away bc it showed the good and bad sides. But episode 5 was so intense and relatable to me, and it was fucking sad. Rue obviously has overdosed, and been an addict for the entirety of the show but this episode really showed her rock bottom in my opinion, I don’t know coming from an addict it just felt so real to me.

      Cassie is going through day after day trying to impress a boy who really dosent care about her, ik alot of ppl wont admit it but i know alot of girls and even guys who have done what cassie dose (not as exessive ofc) just to get a 2 second look as them and their crush pass in the hallway.
      Kat is not only struggling with body positivity but also sex in general. Shes confused on why she dosent want a guy who is so perfect, mewhile dreaming of some sex warrior. Ik alot of girls who say that in highschool they were told they arent suppose to think ab sex, that girls arent supposed to have sex or whatever but they want to, and they think ab it often, so some people can relate to her.
      Nate is just an asshole but hes also struggling with sex, his sexuality, and seeing what his father dose to kids and now being hyperseual because of it , and how his father acts towards him in general. I feel like all nates problems are pretty self explanitory and even if alot of people dont realte to him as a whole, they probably relate with some small aspect of him and his charachter.
      The list just goes on, but yea id say the show is still very relatable, its just also wildly exaggerated because it is a tv show ofc.

    I actually am really enjoying season 2 so far. This show surprisingly I can relate to a lot. Many people think it’s over exaggerated and I can admit at some points yes. But this just shows how different everyone’s lives are. Many people do experience one or two things in this show and some a majority of the things that occur. I especially like how they showed Rues struggle with relapse. This is how addicts really do act and sometimes a lot lot worse. I’m glad they’re showing teens and adults how damaging it can be for not only the addict but the family and loved ones as well.
