  • SVS takes a winner of a subwoofer and adds app control, which lets you fine-tune the sub's output for your particular room. The SVS SB-1000 Pro and PB-1000 Pro deliver deep, punchy bass for movies, games and music.
    SVS PB-1000 Pro: www.crutchfield.com/i-rYTVc2M...
    SVS SB-1000 Pro: www.crutchfield.com/i-rYTVc2M...
    The SVS 1000 Pro series subs are available in a ported (PB-1000 Pro) or sealed (SB-1000 Pro) design. The ported version plays a little lower and might be the best choice if you plan to build a home theater around it. The sealed version is a little tighter, punchier, and could be a little better for music, but that is subjective and dependent upon the room it's in. The point is, SVS makes subs for everyone.
    The 1000 Pro series really shines by being highly customizable. You can tweak the sound quite effectively using the sub's rear-panel control interface, but for getting it just about perfect you can dive into the SVS app. The app connects with the sub's DSP to give you more subtle adjustments, plus helps you tune the sub to the room it lives in.

    Telling people who do a lot of both movies and music to get one of each type is terrible advice. If you do a lot of both and have the space, get two of the ported subs. And if you think it sounds better run them plugged in sealed mode for music. If you don't have the space well then obviously you need an SB-1000 or two.

    Hi, in some of these images it looks like you had the SB-1000 Pro connected to Klipsch The Fives is that right? I am considering this sub for my Fives and am wondering how exactly you connected and set the crossover on the sub? Thank you

    • @crutchfield
      @crutchfield  Před 2 lety

      The Fives have a dedicated LFE Subwoofer output to connect to the powered subwoofer. As far a crossover settings, you can dial those in based on your ear, but typically, you would have a small over laps. The Fives play down to about 50 Hz, I'd set my sub crossover between 60-70Hz to ensure a full range signal.

    • @crutchfield
      @crutchfield  Před 3 lety

      There is no one correct answer to which settings and levels to use. Each room has different acoustics and different needs. A good place to start is with levels set about average, filters off or set at maximum frequency range, and no EQ boosting. Let the receiver run its calibration, and then tweak the settings until you get the bass you seek. If you purchased your gear from Crutchfield, you can also call our technical support to get suggestions on things to adjust to meet your goals when tweaking the sound. We send their toll free phone number on the order invoice.

    • @crutchfield
      @crutchfield  Před 3 lety +1

      I doubt this would increase the bass levels, but I do expect the SVS will sound more consistent throughout the room. So if you are able to get the levels you want without having to turn up the bass volume, then I think this sub will work just fine. However, if you had to turn up your current setup to get the levels you want, then I recommend you look at the other two models (PB3000 Pro if you just cannot get the levels you want at all with your current setup).

    just got my svs sb-1000 pro to compliment my existing setup Klipsch the Fives, with the intention to free up mids and highs on Klipsch. I never had sub before, and in the app it shows -10db loudness level. Is it correct to think if I use LFE port on sub and connect it to Fives back "sub out" port, it would by default redirect all signal lower than 80hz to subwoofer? The sound does feels natural, as if it comes straight out of Fives (i have it set up in triangle, where i sit on the couch, and sub is placed in between the speakers right in front of me).
    I appreciate all tips if I did anything wrong to unleash the potential of the sub, I haven't got down to parametric EQ yet, and heard about Y-cable as an alternative connection, but I'm not sure how in theory it would change the frequency crossfades between Fives' built-in receiver and SVS sub.

    • @crutchfield
      @crutchfield  Před 10 měsíci

      Your Klipsch The Fives does not redirect bass to the sub output when it is in use. The Fives will continue to produce the same bass they did before the subwoofer was connected. The output is not really filtered and so must be used with a powered sub that has a low-pass filter. This allows the subwoofer to be added to compliment the bass being produced by the speakers. We are happy to know you were able to dial in your setup and create a seemless blending of the subwoofer to the speakers.

      Both are great models and can work with that sound bar. The difference in the subwoofers is that the SB3000 has enough changes so it can produce subsonic bass frequencies used to help us feel like we are there part of the action, explosion, etc..

      When there is no preference on the box type and movie performance is preferred above all else, the PB models are the best. That SB model would be a very nice choice for when music is the main preference but able to get more subwoofer to help improve movie performance.

    • @crutchfield
      @crutchfield  Před 2 lety +1

      No, its not that but definitely is linked to sealed boxes exerting more control over the cone movement creating more accurate bass than a ported box does because of the port. Plugging it would help, but would not create as much rigidity as a completely sealed box. However, getting a ported box along with the port plugs is one way to getting a setup that has even better blending of bass between music and movies. Also, getting a stronger, more powerful sealed box subwoofer does that too. If you are still undecided, we do have advisors here that can carry on a live conversation where your goals and preferences can be discussed to give a personal recommendation on a subwoofer for your system. It’s actually a whole new set up for my son’s room. I want a kind of “budget” system, but something that can still impress. I’m looking at a Sony STR-AN1000 for the receiver, the Klipsch RF 8000FII or Polk R700’s, and the SVS SB-1000 Pro or maybe the Polk HTS10 and maybe the Polk ES-10’s for the rears (Not sure I want to go all Polk, since I’m considering the Klipsch and if the SVS sounds better than the HTS-10) My son watches some movies but gaming and music are his go to choices. I have to admit I get most of my “advice” from Andrew Robinson. Been following him since his Home Theater Review days.

    • @crutchfield
      @crutchfield  Před 11 dny

      In my opinion the SVS SB-1000 below is a true performer and would provide better bass than the Polk HTS10 due to having a larger woofer and more RMS power, by around 225-watts. I know that Andrew Robinson really dug the SB-1000 when reviewing them with the SVS complete surround sound system. Using the Klipsch 8000's for your mains and matching center channel will be a recipe for success!

    Bracing the cabinet is NOT so you don't loose bass! What a dumb thing to say. It's to stop the cabinet producing sound output colourations. Why don't you answer all the questions put to you below?? And when you're talking about frequency responses, you MUST mention if that's at the -3db point, as without that, the figure is meaningless.

  • @BigSmartArmed

    Make sure to look at what those 12" drivers look like. Cheap steel stamped basket, tiny 2" voice coil, small single stack magnet, leads to vc are slap and not woven into the spider. In this price range the cost is not budget, but drivers are cheap. 2000 series looks a lot better from price/performance ratio, but in the 1000 line price point, there are other manufacturers that are using much better drivers.

    • @BigSmartArmed
      @BigSmartArmed Před 3 lety +4

      @@89thedawg It's not a warranty issue, it's the price point issue. While I was wrong when I posted that it's a single stack magnet, in a larger picture I did see that it's a double stack, it's still a tiny motor on a tiny voice coil in a super cheap basket. So far the best driver in this price range that I've seen in on Focal subs.
      To me it looks like manufacturers are getting away with using super cheap and weak drivers because of integration of servo tech with room tuning software.
      That way they can stuff a very poorly performing driver and use software to even out the curves.

      @@retroforce6919 I agree with you, 100% bashing on wind. At this pricepoint you can't get such a good subwoofer (at least in Europe) with DSP control, a flat response down to at least 20Hz, a driver that doesn't bottom out, and a port that will not chuff like crazy when the subwoofer is under stress (I'm looking at you, XTZ !). The drivers of the 1000 series may not look fancy but they work ! A driver is all maths and engineering, not "oh this one looks better than the others so it must be better right ?" And to quote Focal subwoofers is funny, as below the 1000F sub (1000€ while the PB1000 is 600€), they lack both infrabass and punch.

      In an average sized room, they both sound pretty good for both movies and music. Comparing the two, the SB is a little tighter with music and the PB goes a little deeper and louder for movies. The significant size difference might also play a big role (like it did for me).
