    Should also mention that the Xbox Series S has about around 4 Teraflops of power, which would technically make it not as powerful as the PS4 Pro when comparing RAW Teraflops. Yet, obviously, the Xbox Series S is capable of outputting raytracing sometimes and otherwise can, and has, produced image quality better than the PS4 Pro ever has. This is all thanks to the fact that the CPU was massively increased in terms of performance this time and the fact that it's running off of AMD's RDNA 2 graphics architecture.
    Meanwhile, the supposed Nintendo Switch 2 would be running off of the direct competitor to RDNA 2, which was Nvidia's Ampere architecture. The architecture was, gen on gen, better at raytracing performance than AMD by twice the amount, while also performing head to head against AMD in rasterization performance. Basically, the Switch 2 could actually be more powerful than the PS4 Pro in this scenario, and it would be closer to the Xbox Series S in terms of performance. Include DLSS into the mix and suddenly the Switch 2 could theoretically have better image quality than the Xbox Series S, straight up. Though, that depends on what actually gets to be the CPU in the Switch 2 when it launches.

    In all honesty, even if the Switch would come somewhat CLOSE to the estimates, that would be a really, really good upgrade and what many developers need. Hearing how developers had to cut down things here and there because the Switch is struggeling is really unfortunate. I was hoping for TotK to release with that system, but oh well. If that's true though, i can only imagine how the next Zelda or Xenoblade gonna look like... man. Makes me cream already haha
    I can't understand how there's people saying that the (hopefully) Switch 2 will only be very slightly stronger. Or the Switch being more than fine still, maybe even for a few more years. But tbh, these people think Pokemon S/V are perfectly fine, so... meh :P
    Very good Video! May we get a new Switch early next year :D

  • @SacrificAbominat
    @SacrificAbominat Před rokem +4

    I don't expect it to outperform the PS4 pro, but that's around where I expected it's power to be. Heck at that point with DLSS and other software technology you could probably get close to PS5 visuals out of the system at 30fps. Honestly at some point we're going to reach the point that graphical power improving will have diminishing returns on how good games look, getting the PS6 or the Switch 3 might be a hard sell if graphics is all they're promoting.
    What concerns me more is battery life though. I don't handheld game that often, but the base Switch's battery life was pretty bad, and while newer models improved upon that it's still not ideal. If the Switch 2 has 4 times the power in handheld mode I'm hoping that playing Switch games on it will increase the battery life 4 fold and I never have to worry about the battery dying during a session. If it has the same amount of battery life for Switch 2 games as the Switch does with it's games right now that'd be okay, but I'd like to see them try and improve that by a couple hours if they can.

    This is a great video! One thing to also keep in mind is that TFlops aren’t everything as well. For instance, the Xbox One X has 6, but the Series S, a system that runs games better and with more advanced features than the One X, only has 4. Having a Switch with modern hardware that has around 3 is going to be able to do about the same as a Series S when we factor in aspects like DLSS and a more modern architecture

  • @watercat1248

    All those numbers sounds to big
    But in my experience as PC users the are so many stuff that effects the performance like for example
    1. haw good the GPU is
    2. what CPU the have
    3. What store type the have
    4. What resolution the runs those game
    5. Have much ram does this have
    And one other thing Many people don't mention is the fact that switch is portable system that means the need to balance power and batary

  • @emiel333

    TFLOPS aren’t exactly the only specs that decide how powerful a gaming system is. There is a lot more to take in consideration, like CPU (how many cores, clock frequency), GPU and it’s specifics in graphical capabilities and also the clock speed, the type of RAM that is used and the bandwidth and speed of it, thermals like heat sink and fan and a lot more.

      Also the value of a teraflop on Polaris (PS4, XBONE, PS4 Pro, ETC) is very different than the value of a teraflop on ampere (which next gen switch is most likely gonna use), the features the architecture offers is much more important than the TF count

    • @MaikonGarcia
      @MaikonGarcia Před rokem

      Teraplo can only be purchased within the same architecture, PS5-XSX/XSS, PS4-XOne. And the number is based on CPU and GPU capacity, the only number it doesn't take into account is RAM.

  • @TheMalioman
    @TheMalioman Před rokem +2

    Another thing to add about TFLOPS is that it doesn't scale the same across different architectures.
    If switch had to rely on raw numbers to run games it wouldn't be running modern games at all.
    Considering how much newer the tech is the Switch 2 will be compared to Xbox Series S even if it's around 2TFLOPs, or even 3-4 like that console, it could easily get close to or out perform it due to it being NVIDIA + ARM based and having things like DLSS to help upscale the image. (as long as nintendo doesn't do something dumb like giving it 4-8GB of ram)
    I think no matter what chip we get in the Switch 2 as long as its from a recent architecture it'll be fine

    • @hydroflasks3571
      @hydroflasks3571 Před rokem

      Thats very true. But the teraflops are what determine how powerful it is with all of the components combined aka cpu and ram and gpu etc, so even the architecture are counted already into the system, And also the software plays a big role.
      I also don’t expect it to add such strong competitive features such as ray tracing because then it would be competing directly in the PS vs Xbox which could be a bad marketing idea especially if it only works on the competitive games. Nintendo won’t compete directly with the big companies because what makes it shine is the exclusive games and features not the online battles. If they just give it enough performance to help make the nintendo exclusives look good at least or maybe even above 1080P that’s literally what’s gonna make the fans happy, too much performance will ruin the battery life and overall battery health which could make portability less usable.

I also hope the switch tablet will be 1080p and that you can change the resolution and fps for longer battery life. I feel like 1080p should be more than enough imo, while 4k undocked would be cool and all, it would only drive up the price more and might make gameplay feel off when switching to a 1080p tv or monitor, which is still the most owned tv resolution.

    I always like more processing power, but what I think is more important is the human-machine interface. I own both the Switch and the Steam Deck, and I can tell you for someone with less than 20/20 eyesight, and older eyes, the larger screen makes the Deck more palatable as a handheld. The Majority of gaming that I do is using it hooked up to my 75" Tv in my office, and that includes when my kids and grandkids come over. I use my devices as handhelds when I'm sitting up in my bed, and those times I try to limit that usage. Having said that, I hope that Nintendo has looked at the console aspect as much as the handheld aspect. Speaking of aspect, I also hope that the GPU is capable of actually producing a HD image. Right now, I keep the Switch at 720 to avoid getting the occasional picture degradation I get when it is in 1040. So, my "druthers" is that besides the CPU, that they increase significantly the screen size, and the graphical output (at least HD).
    Will I end up buying it anyway? Well, like I said, I have kids and grandkids, I've got to keep up with the youngsters.

I dont think its THAT unrealistic to think 4 years later, similar tech could be designed in a handheld form. I think its important for Nintendo at minimum to get within 'spitting distance" of Series S performance or possibly match it. For no other reason than to stay in the conversation with 3rd party developers to port their games to Switch 2. I mean, are we REALLY going to have another Nintendo generation with no COD, no Madden, no Battlefield, no Resident Evil, no Final Fantasy, etc? They NEED to at least release something that 3rd parties can realistically port to.

The TFLOP value relates to the GPU only and described the rendering power of the graphics processor. I may well be 2TFLOP handheld and 3TFLOP docked which is more than enough to render at native 720 and 1080p respectively. However, it is the CPU which is the game changer in terms of framerate and responsiveness/loading times and so on. The CPU should be easily superior to both PS4Pro and xbonex's anemic Jaguar cores. Wrong the 393 gflops is for dock mode on the original switch 2017 and for the switch 2019 and later dock mode gave you 648 gflops , it’s gpu was underclocked in the original switch from 2017 and with its die shrink it’s gpu got overclocked to 1267 MHz from the original clock of 1000 MHz found on the 2015 and 2017 versions of the nvidia shield, in 2019 the shield got revised again with the overclocked gpu from 1000 MHz to 1267 MHz and called the SoC the Tegra X1+ instead of the Tegra X1 which were made on the older 20nm than the 2019 Tegra X1+ which was made on the 16nm process and that SoC , the Tegra X1+ is what’s powering the 2019 nvidia shield, the 2019 Nintendo switch and switch lite and the 2021 switch oled , now as for 2019 n later switches were they underclocked still? I don’t think so , because of the die shrink they kept the overclock from the Tegra x1+ used on the 2019 Nvidia shield to the 2019 and later Nintendo switch systems

    Nintendo understands it has to compete with Sony and Microsoft in the power department meaning that the next console has to be around 7-8 Teraflops at the minimum and 500GB storage and if they’re going to achieve that then they’ll need to get rid of the hybrid model by dropping the Switch brand and release 2 separate devices and resurrect the GameCube brand as the first device would be a huge home console with 4K and Pro Controller and the second device will be a small portable that can play on the go both the home console and portable will play the same games just at different settings. I personally don’t see Nintendo continuing making weak hardware and gimmicks because Iwata is not president anymore and the Switch was his design so I definitely see Furukawa having Nintendo go back to powerful hardware from SuperNES, 64 and GameCube days and I definitely see him getting younger employees and getting rid of the old ones who’s been there for decades like Miyamoto, Tekeda and more old guys who’s holding Nintendo back.
