  • In this video, Mike tells us how he came by a very distinctive Colt Frontier Six Shooter. With it's yellowed, grooved grips it resembles a firearm that was used by John Wayne in many of his iconic films. Cimarron's Rooster Shooter was based on this classic revolver. This is the latest episode in a series where Mike Harvey, Owner and President of Cimarron, shows you some of the original firearms in his collection and talks about them.

    Yep, I’d say y’all have a good argument about the name of the pistol. I’ve never heard anyone call your pistols John or Wayne or Marion for that matter, since his legal name was Marion Morrison. And I think his foundation rakes in enough through his movies and memorabilia, without trying to harvest a little off of each of your guns. By the way, I sure like my Cimarron Frontier 45Colt. It’s made better than my 2nd Generation Colt that looks just like it. The only thing I changed on my Cimarron was the cylinder pin, and I used the Colt style pin.

    I could be wrong but remember hearing that the Colt SA John Wayne was fond of carrying in later movies was a 4 3/4" .38/40 with a well used finish. Hollywood used a universal blank cartridge at the time that was based on the .38/40 WCF that would work in .45's, 44/40's and the 38/40. The rough side out holster and belt he used was replicated and can still be found for sale by some leather makers.

    It would look nice in a custom wooden box with a US marshall badge on the lid. Inside with the gun i would have a pair of old west handcuffs and a box of ammo with period art work. I would give the box a rustic look. It would also add $100 to the selling price. If I can ever afford one of these I'll definitely put one together.

    El Paso Saddlery had to rename one of their holsters The Duke (John Wayne) because of intellectual property rights. I was looking for a left hand version for CAS and a fellow at El Paso told me this. I think it is the model 100 now, not so romantic as The Duke.

    Interesting enough I have never heard of this guy or this channel but I have been a big fan of cimarron for a long time now I wish I could own everything they offer,the model P is by far the best reasonable priced"clone" on the market in my opinion, the 1886 rifle is absolutely awesome...one in particular I have not had yet that I absolutely would love is the "lightning" pump action rifle,I also have Taylors cattleman and they are nice and all but the safety system ( or lack there of with a base pin😉) of the Pmodel variants is where it's at I carry one around the farm quite regularly. So if this man is the founder/ owner of the company I just want to say thanks for what you have brought to the table in this industry I have yet to have any issues with any product as of now.

    • @cimarronFA
      @cimarronFA  Před 3 lety +1

      Hello. There is no protective coating on the product. The patina does evolve over time in a very natural way that does not affect the functionality of the gun. I personally have had one for about 8 years and it looks great.

I used that gun until 2016 and it worn snake out,lol

    Hi Mike, Nate Kiowa Jones here, the 92 guy. The original gun from True Grit was based on a Bisley frame gun that supposedly Stembridge converted to a plow handle grip frame and an enlarged trigger guard. It recently sold through RIA. Go here to 1frame,

    I just got a revolver from Midway USA,,it was advertised as a Cimarron but it has El Patron on the barrel and was said to be maid by Ubertia. Well I though it was supposed to be a Colt replica, how ever,when you cock the hammer it only clicks 3 times and as far as I know Colt has 4 clicks,, do you know anything about this.

    Hate to hear that mess. Money grubbing at its best. One for lawyers to sort out. But as we all know Rooster shooter was based upon John Wayne's movie prop gun. But how the foundation should get a cut of the proceeds from the sale of such is beyond me. But considering the cost involved and the inherent value of the involvement with said foundation it may prove beneficial to cut them in for a tiny slice of the proceeds to garner the tax break of such an indevor if one should exist. Just food for thought.
