The focus of this episode is Texas Jack Omohundro and his U.S. marked S&W Model No. 3, 1st Model American. Well I just got home with two of these in .45 colt. They are very nice looking and also very true to the original design. While there are a few things that are not correct to the American they actually make the gun more robust for shooting.
I like several of my black powder brethren would like to see a shorter cylinder and a longer gas ring like the originals. That way I wouldn't have to rework them. I have a pair of Scofield's that have the Smith Shop rework and pleased with how they shoot black powder.
I am going to have to think long and hard about doing this to my new Americans however it will probably happen as I am abdicated to the Holly black. Anyway back to my main subject after waiting for years for a American to come out I couldn't be happier with it.

I brought one home yesterday in 44WCF. I too shoot black powder and have 100 loaded up for a test to see how many rounds can be fired before it won't go any longer. We do Cowboy Action Shooting so I figure 30 rounds will get me through a match.

Back in 88 or so I was doing a roof estimate at a vacant house for an elderly man. I needed to look in the attic and he directed me to an entrance of sorts to the attic in a small closet, so I decided I was just going to peek into the attic from a small ladder. I was clearing the upper shelf and found a pistol similar to this one. I had become a Christian some months before and putting it back and getting it later was tempting. I quickly called the man over and carefully handed it to him, (I had a fair amount of handing firearms as a criminal in my previous life) he come around the corner from doing some chore while he was in the house and it took his breath away. Me? It was a cool test of my staying on track to keep God's reputation stout in front of my old crowd

I hate to say it, but after numerous calls to Cimarron Firearms, it seems the No.3 1st American revolvers will not be produced in .44 Special as previously advertised.
This information was given to me by an employee who works for the Cimarron Firearms company over the phone. So if it is correct, and nothing was lost in conversation, you will likely have to find a competent gunsmith and send them a .44-40 revolver alongside a Cimarron Schofield .44 Special cylinder from the Cimarron parts catalog. That's assuming Uberti made the No.3 1st American revolvers by using surplus Schofield cylinders.

@@Malpaise_LegateI just called them again last week and they said it will be 18 to 24 months for 44 special. The only calibers I have seen these in is 8 inch and 5 inch 45 colt and very limited 5 inch 44-40. I haven’t seen any 8 inch 44-40. No 44 specials whatsoever though. Still waiting but I grabbed a 45 colt 8 inch just in case these ever get discontinued. Great looking gun. I shoot 45 Schofield black powder in it it shoots all right just very high left(like a foot high) and heavy trigger. My schofield shoots Almost right on just a few inches high.

I’m looking forward to seeing the Model 3 in stores. I have a 4 3/4” Cimarron Frontier.45 Colt, and it’s nicer smoother and puts lead on target better than my 5 1/2” Colt SAA, and the Colt cost me 4 times what the Frontier did. The only grip I have about the Frontier is the cylinder pin. I not a fan of Pietta’s cylinder pin, and have ordered a Colt pin from Midway USA. Other than that, I a Cimarron fan. I’m also looking at your Model 73, lever rifle. I like it better than the Miroku Model 1866 I have, although it’s a beautiful well made gun, I like the fit and finish of the Cimarron better.
