Very informative. This will be the first time changing the oil by myself, thank you.

I really loved this video. Since this video I have bought a torque wrench and car ramps which make the oil change so much easier and correct for the oil plug. I also read on several sites that it is good practice to put in the full 5qt. This does not damage the vehicle. Thank you.

Thanks for posting. I am going to start doing my own oil change and this is very helpful!

I use a piece of aluminum foil loosely formed over the structural member beneath where the filter is. It helps reduce the mess a bit from the oil that comes out when removing the filter

My 2012 takes 5qts, every and I also use Mobil1 0w20 ($23 gal at Walmart) oil and filter, and a Fumoto Drain Valve to save on wrenching the plug every time.

Hi, I bought one of these used with 60k miles on it. The axle boot by the oil filter was either leaking or had oil on it. Looks like you have done this a couple of times...Do you think it is possible that the dealership got oil on the axle boot when changing the oil? They look really close together.

It's possible the oil came from the oil filter.
Might have come from engine gasket leak?

My 2012 odyssey takes a 14mm crush washer for oil drain plug ..

Did you need to replace the washer every oil change?

I have a minivan for 11 years, i did about 15 oil changes and i am still using the same plug and washer. The same true for other cars i has/have.

Nah. You can reuse them for years.
One trick is to flip the washer between oil changes.
Then again, the crush washers are very inexpensive

I can't take the engine oil plug off via a socket wrench, tried hit the cap and heat the engine, no idea how to get it out. Wondering how other people get this done.

Are you positive you are twisting the correct way? (I've made that mistake before)

A quick lube place probably put LocTite on it. Use a torch to REALLY heat it up.

Add a pipe on the end of your wrench for extra torque. Tap it with a rubber mallet if necessary. Remember facing the bolts top, loosen counter-clockwise.

My 2018 Honda Odyssey EX takes 6.7 Quarts of oil. When ever I do the oil change I have to buy 2 of the 5 quart jugs.... The oil filter itself takes around 1 quart of oil..

Does it matter what oil you use if it’s a v4 or v6?

    • @deasttn
      @deasttn Před 5 lety +7

If you have a v4 in your Honda, you need whale oil. Otherwise just use normal motor oil and change it regularly

Nah. Honda doesn't make oil filters (they rebrand from other manufacturers)

Sometimes that's true (especially in the winter), but it's not terribly challenging
