Good tip about wrapping the filter to prevent oil dripping into the alternator.

Agreed. I never take my cars to the “recommend” 10k oil changes….for the simple reason that you’ll never be able to get ALL of the oil out..even with the drain plug….so you could have some oil in there for 20k miles or more at the 10k intervals…..if you change at 5k, you’d potentially only have the residue in there for the recommend 10k!!

I’ll add one for note here. Since I’m always fumbling around looking for torque specs. The oil filter housing is spec’d at 25 Nm of force, and the oil drain plug is at 30 Nm on my 2019 SQ5

Great video and information. Wow, what an easy way to change oil in my Q5. I totally agree, living in Massachusetts as well, and changing oil more frequently is best for the engine and turbo.

Learn from my mess- don’t try to take off the filter too early. I had a lot of oil ooze out. Thankfully, I followed your tip and covered the alternator.

This is way better than taking off those 26 torx bolts that hold the splash cover on to drain the oil!

I don't have an oil extractor. Can I just get under the car and drain it? Is the drain plug accessible?

    Thank you!
Is this the way the dealers do it now?

  • @nothrill_trumpnothrill1862

You should do it when engine is still hot for better oil flow, secondly the car should be parked on slope such that all oil gathered at oil dip stick hole, lastly, never overfill to max level, just put oil at mid so you would know oil consumption overtime.

All three of my Audis I just park level and pump. I verified on all three cars that the pumping method gets all of the oil out by opening up the drain plug and nothing but a few drops coming out. Just a FYI.

It's easy the manufacturer tell you in your owner's manual what type of filter you need

    Great content 🎉
Does your Q5 need a 1qt oil refill after few thousands of miles? or it always stays above min level before the interval due?

At this point it doesn't burn any oil, I've been changing the filter and synthetic oil every 5,000 miles

@@iburciot Thank you! Looks 2018's new EA888 got better!! It is 6 years old and still not yet burnt oil, quite good news.
