    The foil shield is good idea.
    I have also wrapped my filters with a plastic grocery bag to catch most of the oil.

    Foil to avoid the mess is perfect. I have done this 3 times and made a huge mess. Thanks for the tip.

    I like the foil technique. If the filter installs upward, like in the Odyssey, I'm gonna take the extra precaution of priming it. Checking underneath for leaks afterwards is VERY important. It's easy to take it for granted, but the consequences are SERIOUS if a potential problem get overlooked. Very thorough and informative video ..... down to resetting the oil life indicator. Good job.

    Outstanding tip to use the foil to guide the oil! 1st time changing the oil since the car was under warranty. I was surprised none of my filter wrenches fit, had to search for my strap wrench. Thanks for posting the video.

    I didn't expect to learn anything by watching this, but the foil trick made worth it. Very well done video! I thought you may show the cabin air filter replacement as well. Dealer tried to charge me like $80 bucks to change that once.

      I let them change the oil under warranty so there was no grief if something went wrong. But $75 for the cabin filter, that's absurd...

    Foil tip is cool. If a vehicle design is a problem like this one, mechanics will just punch a hole in the bottom of the filter and let it drain first before unscrewing.

    Hey bro question, So i did the oil change today. And I forgot to take out the rubber from the old oil filter and it doubled sealed, so I got a leak like how you mentioned “when you, put the filter back on”
    So I took the the filter out again and I remove the old rubber ring and I put the new filter how it supposed to be.
    But I think I’m still leaking.. do you think I might have squeezed the filter to hard with the tool and damaged it, When undoing it?

  • @andresgomezjr6470
    @andresgomezjr6470 Před 7 měsíci

    I noticed, that you put foil so the oil can come straight down from the filter.. I didn’t do that, my 12’ odyssey has the protection in the bottom..
    So the oil falls in while the filter is out.. do you think the oil leak is because of the oil that stayed in the protection is falling out and not the leak? Or not even a leak at all?
    I just changed it a few hours ago, I went out side just now and I seen a a couple oil drops here and there in the van.
    What’s your Opinion?

    if With coupon shop offer $37 for full synthetic oil 0w20 with filter change, should i still do it myself to save money ? Mobile one full synthetic 0W20 is $6/ Quart from costco. i definitely do transmissions oils change, and coolant change myself since dealer charge $200 and up for each of these services.

    • @MichaelAmerson
      @MichaelAmerson Před 3 lety

      The benefit of going to the dealer every once in awhile, besides you not having to get dirty and dispose of oil yourself, is that the dealer will usually check your vehicle and let you know how much wear on your brake pads, tires, etc. I know that stuff is easy to check, but I get lazy 😂 You might also get a free car wash at the dealer. The down side to going to the dealer is they are going to try to upsell you with tire rotation or cabin filter change (both take less than five minutes) for some outrageous price.
