  • From Chase Field in Arizona, the Mets (37-23) take on the Diamondbacks (34-27) before a crowd of 33,671. Alay Soler gets the start for the Mets and pitches his only major league complete game, a shutout. This would also prove to be Soler's final win at the major league level. The Mets offense continues to roll as they score three times in the first courtesy of doubles from Carlos Beltran and Jose Valentin.

Do you have the game in early 2005 where Pedro Martinez hit Jose Guillen at Shea Stadium and the benches cleared? I’m sure I’m not the only one who remembers that game and would love to see it again 🙏🏽

That game happened on April 06, 2006. I remember seeing the game on TV as well.
It was the final game of the Opening Day Series between Nationals-Mets. Mets Classics does have the first game of that series, which was Opening Day 2006 = April 03, 2006
Guillen got angry at Pedro since that was the second time Guillen got HBP by Pedro in the game. And also, Guillen during his career apparently had been HBP by Pedro many times (I dont know how many times in his career though).
Guillen said after the game "We used to be friends, but that relationship is over".
Pedro said of the incident with Guillen ""Those pitches just got away. That pitch wasn't really that far in, except he leans over," Martinez said. "I think he overreacted a little bit, especially going out there with the bat. I can understand it if you're frustrated or mad or something. You want to charge, you charge. But don't bring your bat out there. I wasn't scared anyway."
Pedro also hit Nick Johnson in that game. It was a cold game, so Pedro didnt have a good grip on the baseball. Nick Johnson was also hit again later in the game by a Mets bullpen pitcher.
A Nationals pitcher did hit a Mets hitter (Paul Lo Duca) later in the game. The Nationals pitcher was tossed because of it. So was the Nationals manager (Frank Robinson) tossed as well.
That April 06, 2006 game was also the game that Beltran hit a home run, but he did not want to take a curtain call for Mets fans, since Beltran was very sour about how Mets fans treated him during the 2005 season due to the poor 2005 season he had. And also, Beltran was mostly booed alot in this 3-game-series against the Nationals. So I can understand why Beltran did not want to do a curtain call
Beltran said ""Put it this way: I'm a friend not only when you're doing well, I'm a friend when you're not doing so well," Beltran said. He pointed out that he appreciated the way Mets fans supported the team even though they fell short of making the playoffs last year. But, he said, "I do believe they can be better."
