Sanding and Scraping tips I have been using over years. Please share yours in the comments below. Thank you for watching, Subscribing, Liking and Commenting!
I just tried the razor blade inside a band saw kerf. It works like a charm and way, way better than I expected. Thank you very much for these free "online shop classes".
Spike is the new star of your channel. Seriously, I really appreciate and admire the way you upcycle and reuse things to get the job done. As creative in some ways as some of your pieces. Keep on keepin' on.
Great tips Jimmy. Like the MDF sanding block with one open and one wrapped side and the put life back in plexiglass tips. Also the last sanding belt is something I never thought of. Thanks, JimE
Excellent tips. I especially like salvaging the worn our random orbit sander pads for manual use. You should do an entire video on uses for used planer blades. I can't make myself through them away so have a drawer full!
Hello jimmy, thanks again for compiling these tips..I like the simplicity and practicle nature of all of them. Just shows you that you don't always have to run to the store and buy another gadget, you can customize to your own needs and work on your skills at the same time. Great stuff, video etc
THANKYOU! You have vindicated my opinion on razor blades as scrapers, several times on forums etc I have told people that a razor/utility blade is a great scraper and they don't need to buy "proper" card scrapers with the hassle of sharpening etc. I have always been told I am wrong and that it is a stupid idea, well now I can tell them that if its good enough for Jimmy Diresta then it's good enough for me!
Another excellent video, I feel as though I'm cheating learning so much in such a short space of time! Really hope we get to see Spike's greek temple getting built.
Thanks for the tips, Jimmy! The stickyback discs are also called PSA discs (Pressure Sensitive Adhesive). I use them on my 6" air sander. I prefer the PSA discs and my air sander to my ROS - it's lighter, faster, and creates less hand fatigue. Plus the 6" discs are bigger than the 5" ROS discs and seem to last pretty well. Thanks for all the videos - every time I watch one of your videos I want to go out in the shop and make something!
Spike was screaming cause he thought one of the tips was gonna be, how to give your cat a pedicure with leftover 220 grit.... ;-) great video as always!
I see you using 3M alot, which im sure lots of people do. Its nice to see since im a Minnesotan and thats where 3M started and its headquarters is located. also, lucky cat. I wish i got to hang around the shop with you
11/23/24 0:14 RIP Spike. 0:42 great tip 1:53 always loved your B roll with the animals. 2:48 use this tip all the time. 3:09 I dress all my blocks like this. 3:40 mdf is great nice flat surface. 4:57 I have a glass table in my shop just for this. 5:51 the weight trick was always a good one. 7:32 I do the same probably cause I saw it here. 8:14 you must of added the audio here. 12:06 Great tips Jimmy good to revisit this one.
I just finished scraping paint off one of my knives with a razor blade about 20 minutes ago. I love razor blades, they are so useful. I keep about 4 on top of a dresser so I'm never without one. Edit: Spike is also a boss.
I see a lot of knife makers using the windex trick on their belt sanders and flat sandpaper. I'll look into that rubber backed sandpaper. Paul Sellers has a woodworking master series now available free on CZcams and he also uses the sandpaper on the glass for chisel and plane sharpening. Great tips!
Hi Jimmy thanks for all your time and effort in making these videos they have been fantastic you have a god given talent so thanks for sharing it with us all I wish u all the best for the future. A bunch of great tips .. thank you for sharing all these neat tricks .. Here's one for you, whenever you plan on using wet sandpaper soak it over night in soapy water .. makes them work a lot better and not "pile up" so much ..you might even already know that, but it's a guitar builders trick .. :) I hope that made sense .. have a good one
