73 years young and I'm still learning. Thanks for solving many of the questions I've had for years about the simple stuff and the complicated stuff. I think your family is really great. Your brother John is, well, a good brother. Your Dad is something too. I lost my father when I was a 2 yr old. Jim your are so fortunate to have had a dad in your life. Keep up the wonderful videos. They are very much appreciated. With much respect. Mike Festa
You have provided me with information I can really use around my shop. Your devotion to your cat is to be imitated by those who love their cats. Thanks
Haha, the last sentence is as true as it could be :D The more warnsigns on a bottle of resin, glue or paint, the better it works. Great video, thanks for sharing!
i really enjoy the tip videos KEEP them coming. I learn something new every time i watch. I been a maker for 25 years i enjoy learning new things like i always say you never to old to learn something no matter how long you been doing something. THANKS Jimmy for sharing your knowledge
Baking soda and crazy glue is a great repair for bone or ivory parts on instruments too. I can be sanded and formed quick and easy and will tolerate a bit of stress. Love the Tips videos Jimmy. Keep them coming, I use them often. They are making me a better builder and a little more money too. Thanks, "Rt"
One type of glue you may want to check out if you haven't already is watch crystal cement. It is a small tube of glue that has a hyperdermic type applicator. It is a fairly thin glue actually its closer to a CA but the advantage to using it is it dries completely clear. Me and my brother use for models but it has a wide range of uses. Thanks for all your videos, I have learned so much from you.
"the dizzier you get when applying it, the stronger the joint" that is some funny shit. I've watched a ton of your stuff, absolutely great! I'd like to think I have a great shop and I also have worked up some great projects but I ALWAYS learn a few things from you. Thanks Jimmy, from all of us shop freaks........ "build on my friend" from long island, thank you!
I think this might be my favorite tips video yet, info. I don't see much of. I always liked how you work with different materials like sculpting and metal casting.
Thanks for this video. Your videos have become a favorite of mine, and this one has answers to questions I never thought to ask and will actually be able to make use of.
Jimmy, amazing tips, very informative, thanks for sharing. I will be trying some of these tips for sure. I like the last one "the dizzier you get while applying it the stronger the joint is going to be" spot on.
Jimmy this is the best tutorial series on you tube thank you very much for taking the time to share it with everyone, you are a amazing artist and craftsman
I think I would seriously watch a video of you reading the Phone Book and probably find most of it interesting. 51 dislikes of this simple sharing of knowledge, I don't understand what there was to dislike.
today i checked your wikipedia and read that you are nearly 50 years old... i was like "whaaaaat... no way, this guy looks like end of 30" keep on going with your awesome work !!!
Jimmy makes my morning. Needed those tips and the plastic welding exercise is spinning my creative cruncher hard. Knowledge moves imagination makes momentum moves distraction and makes my morning. Give Thanks.
Well done,as usual Jimmy. Really good stuff for a video, because there are so many products it can become overwhelming when choosing a bonding agent. Thanks for another tutorial to aid me in my projects.
Thanks Jimmy, useful info. I'm going to have to get some of that clear casting resin to play with. I love the way you love Spike. I love my two cats, Peaches shredder of chairs, furniture destroyer, and PawTuxent Shrew Killer, much the same.
Watching you brought back memories when I was a kid, watching you and your brother on DIY channel. Thanks again. PS: Your brother is very known where I work.. Transit
You have no idea how I've been looking for products like these. I usually go to Lowes but they're lacking in a lot of stuff and people who work there don't know much. I REALLY appreciate this video. Will look at it again and again and list all the products and I'm looking forward to watching and studying ALL your other TIPS video. I really appreciate you being so giving with your knowledge. I can't wait to see if you have a TIPS video on wood finishing. Thanks Bro.
oHH you said the Rolex was a gift! Now its a one time buy! lol I worked 6 months driving a 5 tonne digger on a labourers wage but with my (now) laughable bonus I bought my Nixon watch....£250 But I learnt the carrot tastes the same as stick so work hard for yourself, that's why I love diresta... You really are filling heads with THE best knowledge in the world :)
was an Army medic and I have to give ya props on the crazy glue application...been through a few bottles of crazy glue the last few years without insurance myself. haha...aid bag always at the ready here too
Excellent video Jimmy. I enjoy the Tips series of videos; my favorite was the band saw, it cut right to the basics, this is my second favorite... I hope you stick with it. Having seen all the tips videos, until this one I didn't think Spike gave a crap.
I just started messing with quarter inch lexan plastic. I have not yet attempted to glue any together but I am glad I saw the tip on how to use the bottle with the needle. Sharing to face book now, thanks Jimmy.
I use a phone book for mixing my epoxy. Once mixed and your done, just rip off the pages that the epoxy (or whatever your mixing) soaked into and toss them. Cheaper than the tape since they usually are free!
I usually use a hammer to smash the end of the CA bottle to break up the glue that is stuck in the applicator. It usually works pretty good and then I am able to use the nozzle still without cutting it off. I like the idea of storing the epoxy in a cold spot to increase the working time. Thanks for the tip!
These tips are amazing. It reminds me of the times I would just watch my dad in the garage. . Real life aplications.. minus the giant sheers that could remove a finger.
I followed a suggestion from Tublecain to check you out. I'm glad I did! you're a talented guy, and you like cats (that's a big plus for me!!) some great projects and some great advice. ThankYou Stuart
The thread and crazy glue technique for closing laserations is analogous to the suture stips that medical professionals use in place iof stitches. They even use the same technique of sticking one side down and using the other end to pull the wound together like you demonstrated. Very clever.
One of your best videos Jimmy. I experiment with many different epoxies and bonding agents when I make my knife handles. You taught me a lot in this video. P.S. ~ Spike is so laid back, he cares nothing for whats going on, he just wants attention.
+Todd Krein I do basically the same thing. I leave my mixing board with the glue up, and when the board is hardened, I figure the project has setup too. Plus I usually wait a full 24 hours before I mess with a glue up anyways. But I have more time than Jimmy does.
If you mix wood dust from the piece you're sanding it makes an almost invisible repair/filler. The dizzier you get the stronger the joint comment may be true but its also an excellent way to end up in the ER with heart problems. Those fumes are no joke!
on form again Jimmy ,great tips and done in terms for the everyman ,thanks for posting,id love to see you do some micarta ,im thinking of doing a micarta handle for my old brick trowels

I LOVE that you totally ignored the little scissors to cut that bit of thread, instead choosing the eff-off great big shears! Ha! Only DiResta!!
You have provided me with information I can really use around my shop. Your devotion to your cat is to be imitated by those who love their cats. Thanks
I shudder to think of how much I would have wasted in time, money and materials to teach myself all of that! Thanks Jimmy!
Love the little wood glue argument. Cracked me up.
Haha, the last sentence is as true as it could be :D
The more warnsigns on a bottle of resin, glue or paint, the better it works.

these videos are amazing!
i love Jimmys DIY healthcare using giant Itchy & Scratchy scissors.
Belly Rub... My 2 cats love that LOL, thank you for the adhesive tips, I really appreciate it.
After using Expoy, I leave the mixing stick on the mixing board. When the stick and board are solid, I can be pretty sure the joint is too.
+Todd Krein I do basically the same thing. I leave my mixing board with the glue up, and when the board is hardened, I figure the project has setup too. Plus I usually wait a full 24 hours before I mess with a glue up anyways. But I have more time than Jimmy does.
Good stuff, i worked will some floor epoxies, great stuff.

The thread & CA glue is genius... it's a poor man's butterfly suture. I get cut all the time - this is awesome.
I jus watched the stained glass episode of hammered, you are awesome.
Awesome tips! thanks for sharing. I think Spike may be as well known on YT as Garfield was on TV.
