Whis is it right to take a short day and stay at a luxury cabin? We only walk a short day because we are running out of battery and because we are ready for a break. Nothing but honesty here.
Day 4
Start - Woods Hole Shelter (Mile 27.7)
End - Neel Gap (Mile 31.3)
Miles walked for the day - 3.6

Hi Everone. If you want to hear more about my (Sunshine- fka Jessica) thoughts on her first couple of weeks on the AT - check out our latest podcast episode on "The Why Matters". www.thewhymatterspodcast.com/444520/14904970
An emergency blanket is a cheap light way to stay warmer at night
I was happy to see you met Orange Kitty since you have a cat. I am loving your adventurous spirit.
I know, loved the kitty, made me miss ours more.
As someone who has found you through your Camino videos at the time, the small daily ritual of making the number of the day with you both in it too, makes me nostalgic (or sentimental). Wishing you all the best on your trail (and to Will as support line too).
Awh, the Camino, our heart. We are bringing back several of the rituals. CNN to ATNN! It's coming. Thank you for joining us again on another hiking adventure.
What a delight to come along with both of you on this epic adventure! I loved your Camino Frances series and I am eager to follow along on this one. Largo, I enjoyed your Camino News Network daily updates! Hint...hint 😉Enjoy the journey and this special time spent together❤
Shhhhh! We have not brought that part back yet. It will be a surprise when it does happen.
I love your attitude and sharing the realities of the trail with enthusiasm and sense of humor!
Thanks, attitude is everything. We have to live, so why not live with a good attitude.
We’re planning our first Camino right now, going in February. I’m going to start watching your Camino vlog as I can’t get enough of all things Camino right now! I thru-hiked the AT in 2014 at the age of 50. Your videos bring a smile to my face and good memories everyday so thank you for that!
You will love the Camino. We did it in 2028 and vlogged everyday. It was so great. The vlogs are some of our favorites. Especially because we were able to vlog with the drone as well. You will get an incredible view of the trail from what we posted. Buen Camino.
💛
Buen camino!
Brings back memories of the camino Frances. Ohhh rain. Soggy feet. Yikes. But it great isn't it
It all part of the adventure. Suffering is part of the fun.
The shoes on the tree also represent the shoes of hikers who completed the AT, shoes that have worn out and shoes that hikers didn’t like. Cheers to your enthusiasm. Wishing you safe passage and good fortune. Happy Trails!
Thanks for that! Yes, there is a positive spin as well.
❤awesome job guys. Loving your videos👍🏻🥾🥾
Thank you! There’s a lot of love going into the process. So glad you’re enjoying them.
One of the good things about the bear vaults is that you can sit on them. 😉
Absolutely. At camp, the people with Bear cans have the best seats in the house.
These vlogs are so fun. Definitely living vicariously through you lol. I feel like we’re gunna know you well by the end of this 😁
Thanks. So happy you are enjoying them. That is the plan, we are in this together.
Totally thought that was a surprise visit from Avalon in the store (braids and blue coat)....had to rewind to verify it wasn't. Thanks for sharing your adventure. I love these daily videos and look forward to watching them each evening. 😻
OMG we would love that. We miss her so much. Thanks so much for watching our vlogs, happy to have you here.
My Aunt & I ran off the side of the mountain down from Neel Gap in her VW Bug when I was a little girl. We somehow managed to get out of the car & hiked to Mountain Crossings & slept in a phone booth until my Dad came & found us. Love seeing this memorable spot in all the AT videos!
OMG, that sounds crazy. Glad you did not get harmed.
I absolutely love the way you can laugh at yourselves! I feel sorry for people who can’t! I am so glad I found your channel!
Thanks, it would be a long 6 months if we could not laugh at ourselves. Happy to have you here. More laughs coming.
Largo you are so funny. You and your mom are adorable together. So jealous
He is such a funny guy and a hoot to do this trail with. Magical memories forever.
You guys are so funny. Love how truly honest you are
We are not actors so honest is the best way to go, plus it benefits us all. Thanks for being here.
Enjoying waking up to your daily blog! I walked 4 days of the AT but we were able to go cabin/lodge to lodge so we didn’t have to carry as much!
Fun! We see week hikers all the time and they are fun to chat with. Yep, so nice to get a shower in a cabin after.
I am following because i need to see how this all pans out. Ok.... umm... yup.
You two are hilarious
Ha! Well, we are here to see how it all pans out too! Thanks for your support!
I would switch shoes back and forth. It helps with your feet aching and concentrates on different areas of your feet. I usually have hiking sandals with socks and hiking shoes...
Half of my walk I switch.....then The other half.....switch
I may start doing that after I try out my Altras for a month. I can do that since Will is nearby and we will hopefully see him more than once a month now. Thanks for the idea.
Great vlog!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Good morning I am very much so enjoying yawls hike. I went to Nails Gap and did not know they had sandwiches in there
. Bummer. Wish I would’ve . Stay safe and continue to eat. Lots of good food and have lots of fun.
Thanks, happy to have you here. Those sandwiches were so yummy. Go back!
Just discovered you. Think I’m coming along for the ride. And no you are not out of line taking a day out You have a long way to go. Hope you find a comb.
Yippie! Glad to have you here with us! Never found a comb, oh well.
Enjoy hearing of your interactions with other hikers. Expect there will be many more in the future.
More to come for sure as we learn our systems better and integrate more. We love people.
Bravo Largo, ton Français est très bon! Avec un très bon accent!
Merci. He has been in French school for years and often gets confused with a local in Paris. Ha!
Buen Camino - Wonder how many cats you will see along the way. (hopefully not the big kind)
Only 1 so far, but I hope more...small ones yes. Ha
4,800 feet. Very tough. NY has only one or two just above 5,000, and not on the AT.
We were at almost 14,000 two weeks before the hike and could barely breath so we just kept saying "not as bad as Machu Picchu" Ha!
eh, not everything. I saw no beer, just a load of sugar drinks (which are essentials for hikers with a fast metabolism). I saw no traditional leather hiking shoes or boots. No cotton t-shirts and no jeans !! (some of us do still swear by them) The socks all looked like they'e made of hydrocarbons, though I'm sure there's some 100% wool in there as well.
Oh !! I carry a comb. Also a pair of scissors.
I guess your World Towning AT sea woolllen hat is appropriate ...
Pizza looks OK -- it's hard to get Pepperoni in Europe, so I'm biased towards yours, as I miss that kind of pizza ; but I do live about 17K from the Italian border so we're OK here too !! 🙂
Things you miss all over the world. Yes, we had a pepperoni pizza, but we are really missing a solid Diavola pizza right now with red pepper oil. Yum!
The one thing I have learned when hiking, be careful when filming when you are tired!!! Easy trips can happen.
Apparently I never learn, more falls to come. Ugh.
Blood Mountain is not the highest point in Georgia. Brasstown Bald is. 400 feet taller. 😄 And the highest recorded temperature there is 84 degrees. So a bit different climate than the rest of Georgia.
Thanks for correcting us, we did learn it later on. We loved Georgia though.
Blood mtn is the highest point in Georgia on the AT.
I don't know about the other viewers who are witnessing your talking head. I'm here viewing your video to experience you two hiking along the ATT trail.
Thanks so much. I hope you are enjoying our style of vloging the trail. We feel that that the story beyond just the walking is good for you. We are loving showing how we think and feel as we go along this incredible journey. All the best. Sunsine and Captain!
Well I have been watching/listening to you and your team for years (since 2800 Subscribers), You have done an amazing job raising your two children. I did walk the Camino the year before you did, and I really liked your promotion of it on here. I know that you don't know a ton about the Appalachian Trail, But it really will test you BIG time. Right now please enjoy every moment with your son. 🥰🥰
OMG wow, thanks so much for being here since 2800 subs!!!! Big hugs! Awh, and the Camino, it will always hold a special place in our heart. Yep, it is testing us BIG time, it is no joke, but each day we are getting stronger.
Not bragging, however i my day we did not have internet or cell phones and a compass was our best friend as well as a whistle!
I know. I pinch myself everyday that I carry a supercomputer in my pocket. I still remember the days of getting up to change the channel on my grandparents B/W TV. Crazy how technology and gear has evolved.
U would look good with dreads.
It is pretty much the only hair style I have not had, but I have considered it and still am.
