Having owned 2 previous Trek bikes before, I bought this bike online from a local bike shop without a test ride during the pandemic and I'm very pleased with it. The red paint along with the large tires really make it stand out, and I love the routing of the cables inside the down tube. You also have the capability to mount dual water bottles: one on the down tube and the other on the seat tube. Very comfortable upright riding position, but the suspension seat post is a joke and shouldn't even be considered as an added feature in your buying decision. The bike is a weekday commuter seeing 16 miles a day in an urban environment and it performs well. I've outfitted it with an Ibera rack and waterproof panniers and there's no heel strike. I highly recommend this bike.
I have the gray one. I love it. No complaints. It’s literally changed my life in a positive way. I’ve bought a bunch of accessories for it, and I ride the Santa Fe Trail in Dallas (14 miles, which is just a portion of it) every evening. I feel incredible. Thank you Trek.
I purchases this bile today 2022 model. I love it. Very comfortable ride and the gear shift is awesome. I'm a young 67 year old just getting back into biking. You could say I lived on a bike in my youth and I attribute good health now to that experience.
Yes! Thank you! I actually got the low step one like 2 months ago I love it!! And I do atleast 20 miles everyday on it, weekends I do 40-50 miles. I’ve been lots of compliments as well. Also the discs brakes have already saved me from getting hit by a person who was driving and texting
@@FelaKuti8000 I doubt it, I do just under 10 miles a day on a different bike with similar tires and pump them up monthly at the most.
superb video. straight forward, concise, accurate and informative with no fluff. highly recommend!
I bought my wife the Verve 2 Step Thru, it is the best hybrid bike for the best price and value you get. Its super comfortable and rides super smooth. I fell in love with this hybrid bike so much that I canceled my Roscoe 7 deposit and purchased a Verve 2 Disc. The roscoe 7 was not due anytime soon so I gave up and will not be in mountain now. I will be riding with the family which is what I should have done since day 1. Anyway, I got lucky and found the Verve 2 disc today and made the purchase to reserve the bike as I was serious. I highly recommend the Verve 2 models to anyone who is interested for comfort and enjoys riding around the neighborhood.
2021 for both bikes?
Yes, they are both 2021 models
Loving my Trek Verve 2 low step. Just picked it up last week. Very comfortable bike. Easy shifting, easy riding. Great Hybrid bike and the best one yet!
informative and straight-to-the-point, very nice review!
Nice to see so many people get their hands on one. Been waiting on my LBS to get them since September. Now their telling me maybe after Christmas.
That was a great, in-depth review! So much info! I wish everyone did as well as you!
Glad it was helpful!
Very well done review. Thanks James.
Very well explained. Beautiful bike!
I just bought one, even though it’s in the dead of winter here in Minnesota, since of all the shortages that I am sure will continue into summer 2022… so pumped! 😁
I think it’s the perfect bike for commuting and exercising without hurting your wrists, elbows and back. Love the color.
Thank you for this thorough review. I have ordered a Trek Verve 2 for myself and a Verve 3 lowstep for my wife. Your review helped me make my decision.
Glad it was helpful!
Looking forward to my new trek! Good video
Lovely review. The low-step is exactly the bike I was looking for BUT it appears that in the UK Trek are going to be selling it with a rubbish suspension fork. The version sold in the US is what I want - would buy it tomorrow if I could. So a big THUMBS DOWN to Trek for giving the UK a naff version of this lovely bike. Lovely video review. Thank you.
Perfect for bike touring I own a trek verve and dual sport
Outstanding review, thank you.
Thanks for watching!
Right now, there is a severe bicycle shortage for all brands in most of Ontario, Canada, including Toronto. This is due to factories having closed down during the Pandemic and the supply chain screwed up. Some bike shops I went to today, in search of a hybrid bike, told me they don't get a skid of bikes like they did last year, but only a few bikes at a time, and demand is so great the bikes that do arrive sell out within hours. So, I had to expand my search outside of Toronto and found a shop 1 1/2-2 hours drive away to get the Trek Verve 2 Disc Low Step. I usually like to test a bike out before I buy it but based on your and other CZcams reviews, it seems this is a great hybrid bike. Hopefully, I won't be dissappointed.
I have a verve 2 and I call it my convertible Cadillac with power windows and door locks. Rides like a dream. Seat is super comfortable for me. Rear rack for groceries. Handles well. Got it with fenders. Makes it all the better.
this look versatile... it can be mtb, gravel , roadie or tourer... nice
Just got mine today. So comfortable and light weight. Great buy!
How do you like it? Did you get the step through?
So informative. Thank you !
Glad it was helpful!
I purchased a Verve 2 about a month ago after testing out two other brands. This Verve really fit me the best and is super comfortable. I've put about 100 miles on the bike so far. I'm really happy with my decision to get this bike. Great review!
That I argree. It rides so much better then those cheap bikes from Walmart. I had one of those for like 6 months. The pedal ended up falling out of the crank arm by the way Just to get the new arm and pedal, it whould be 175. Apparently bike shops will never work on those since it's a bike that is made in a batch . With that trek is so much easier to find parts on it .
I recently purchased the 2021 Verve 2 large frame step through. I debated about getting the men's version but opted for step through due a hip replacement. In addition, the step through offers a faster, safer dismount if needed. So happy with that decision. I believe the riders position and geometry are the same between both models. More and more step through bikes will be sold to men as our demographic ages and riders get past men vs women optics.
I'm embarrassed to say that it helps to see another guy who's fine with getting the step through - I'm old enough to admit to being nervous about being seen on a "girl's bike," as a 6'2" guy.
@@mojacarflamenco6314 I was able to test both Low Step and Top Bar Verve 2 in September 2021. At 73 yrs old I was having difficulty dismounting the "Mens" style, so I got the Low Step. I love it & feel so much more confident on my rides. For $749.00, it's a great riding bike!!!
Bikes don’t have a gender. Ride what feels comfortable.
We try to use the word "unisex" instead of mens and womens
I bought one a month ago and man it rides like a dream!!! First day I rode 26miles on it and man I didn’t want to get off!!!
A month later do you still feel that way? I’ve been looking at one but wondered how it would be on a 30 mile ride.
@@tobycatron2103 oh yeah it’s like I can’t get off it
@@213johnnie read your words which verve 2 u bought aa year ago cause the low profile dont have the bar to haul on a bike rack that concerns me
Good review. 2021 Verve 2 here. Positives are great hydraulic disc brakes and a lot of adjustment with the standard Model W525343 steering stem. There are some negatives out there about this stem involving the knurled teeth inside the stem - Torque on the adjustment bolt is critical. Another positive is the large Bontrager accessory and part supply line. Negatives are few. The suspension seat post is not a good one, and if you need more height in the steering stem, there is a slight amount of adjustment available but no accessory stem available to add height. The pedals shown in this review have been recalled
The Verve would be the ultimate winter bike. Change the tires to 29er and feel safe in snow on the road. Summer, put back the 700c and get the speed.....looks nice!

very good review
I just brought this one home today, I've been away from bikes for 6 years, I'm 58 and really looking forward to some simple pleasant riding. I've had Tektro Brakes before, there generally OK, This bike is supose to have Tektro, but there actually simply Labeled "Power"
I dont see any other Logos. Maybe there just generic, as long as they work.

I bought my 2021 Verve 2 six months ago and so far it has performed very well. I actually bought it to configure as a touring bike so I have front and rear racks for panniers. I've completed two mini-tours on it so far. The only issue I had was a flat front tire. The piece of glass that pierced the tire was so tiny I could barely see it. The belted factory tires are very thin and are intentionally very smooth, almost slick, to reduce rolling resistance. I haven't had another flat, but I've decided to install a set of Schwalbe Marathon Plus tires on it. I've heard great things about these tires for touring. FYI, this tire size 700 x 45c, isn't the most common size so it can be kind of hard to find replacements for it.
FYI you do not need to match the width of the tire so you have tons of options for tires
I just picked up that same bike today!! Can't wait to ride it.
Have fun!
In the UK Trek seem to have decided to fit a suspension fork onto the Verve 2 and 3 which is a real shame as it just doesn't need the extra weight and complexity.
The low step Verve 2 will be my next bike
Great review, I have the 2021 Verve 1, have rode it 30 to 50 miles a week for the last several months. I have yet to find anything wrong with it, great bike. Keep the reviews coming, enjoy all of them. Thanks James
Hey, if you ever had the chance to ride the Verve 2, would you say the $100 is worth the upgrade? I’m a college student looking for a good commuting bike
Thanks
Just bought mine today, that's why I'm watching reviews on it. Lol haven't had a chance to ride it yet, it's been pouring rain here.
Will you do a 2020 Verve 2 and 2021 Verve 2 comparison video?
great vid....i was trying to decide between the verve 2 and the fx series; goin with the verve 2.
Sweet, enjoy
Just put a deposit down on the Verve 2, gonna be ready in July. Really excited to get my hands on it now after watching this!
I have the verve 2 and absolutely love it. Well made and comfortable, may upgrade the pedals, but everything else works well for me
How's the bike?
How about a close up on how you shift gears? I had a heavier Trek 8 years ago but have totally forgotten.
I really like this Trek bike. Hopefully will check out one tomorrow. What's your opinion on the Trek Verve versus the Cannondale Treadwell 2? I tested one of those and really liked it. But I notice the price tag on the Trek is about $200 less. Are they pretty comparable?
How would this compare to a specialized sirrus x3. 0
Hey great video. How much is the bike on the left ?
I test rode these bikes and fell in love with them. Going to buy one very soon.
Right on!
Hi James, do the gear indicators on Verve 2 handle bars have to rest on bottom of handlebars? Or can they rest on top like the Verve 3? Not sure if they be readjusted depending on a persons preference.
i just bought the verge 1 lowstep 2021 for the misses .. it seems to look comfortable for a first timer to learn on .. it is a sexy looking lowstep .. i waiting for the assembly
How does she like it?
Why do you think they did away with the 2020's swoop fork?
Can you suggest a wheelset that I can use to upgrade this bike?
Ok. I walked into the shop looking to upgrade a mountain bike and got sold into one of these. V1 in orange.
Truth be told I’m almost never on dirt or gravel. So I said ok. I rode it for a few minutes and was impressed.
Enjoy your new bike. The Verve is great
I would love to see a comparison picture of a rider on these with the other contending hybrids. Would really help to with understanding what the riding position is like.
Definetle that would give better picture since most of us cant get to test ride because of the pandemic. We only can place an order online.
Did the 2021 Verve 3 change also?
I recently just got my new Verve 2 2021 XL and I am loving it. I have not gotten much ride from it yet because of the weather. I may adjust the handlebars just a bit. I am six feet and one inch. I like the comfort design of the Verve 2 2021 and great colors. Trek always delivers quality. 🏅🏅🏅🏅
Very nice!
I bought the same bike 4 months ago today got a new verve + 2 haven't rode it yet just a circle around the parking it was 33 degrees and I wasn't dressed for it didn't expect to get it today
I bought in August and love it it's my favorite bike also a new verve +2 for Christmas really like it to my buddy rode my verve2 a couple times he went and bought a step through a few days before we were riding he was getting off his bike hooked his heel on the set fell over said he solved that problem with the step through its a dark gray really good looking bike
OK, we are the same size, I am 80. so post an update please seeing as it was 5 months ago.
@@sydmarsh3478 The Verve is still awesome and rides with great comfort. 👍🏾I highly recommends this for distance riding as well.
I have the Blue Verve 2 really like that one
Nice!
I want one.
I have watched both your videos on the Trek verve 2 and the Specialized Crossover 2.0 -- I am interested in the step throughs -just getting educated on bikes do you have an opinion of one over the other for someone who wants to start biking more - for both pleasure and exercise _ heading into semi retirement and hoping to have the time to join a cycling club (not a racing or mountain bike club) more of a recreational club.
Thank you for this excellent in-depth review. I was debating between the Trek Verve 2 Disc Lowstep and the Connondale Adventure Women's 1 low step. I'm going to try to find a Verve to do a test drive. I think it will be the best choice for me.....
Glad to help. The verves are pretty sweet Hope you enjoy it when you test ride it
@@Jamesthebikeguy Thanks James. Any thoughts on the Cannondale Adventure Wormen's 1 in comparison?
Awesome bike. Personally I’m a bigger fan of specialized Crossroads 3.0
I have specialized roll x1 elite and it’s a dream to ride. Comfort for days
I'm a fan of that Roll too!
Looked at this one today. Will be available in September!
Fantastic!
Thanks -I just bought the bike but do not know what the bluetooth connection is on the inside of the rear fork?
Very informative video. Thanks. Can you transport the low-step Verve 2 on a regular car bike rack?
With a cross bar adapter ues
James, great video; I put an order in for the Verve 3. I had a FX but crashed in Sept so need a new bike. The Verve three looks like something I will like
I hope your ok after the crash. Good luck choosing your new bike.
@@Jamesthebikeguy I am still healing from accident. I broke my back, right hand, and severe whiplash. My new bike won’t be at trek store until last week of December. By then I should be good to go.
@@timkerwin6886 For whiplash you need traction - head sling cord to pully directly above head to 2nd pully in front - say arms length down to an adjustable weight. I used a bag with bottles of water - easier to adjust the weight - ask physio to advise what weight I had to slightly increase it.
Preferably have a warmup in the shower or bath, to relax all muscles in the neck shoulder etc.
Sit in an arm chair or other comfortable chair, in which you can rest your arms to take the weight or the arms off your shoulders perfect relaxation posture - blis.
Warm up a towel damen with HOT water and place around neck and shoulders - you rest their for an hour. And 30 or more minutes as you remove the weights. Repeat as often as possible.
I did it several times a week and it SLOWLY had the effect. Though there were varying periods of success until permanent. But even then it returned, had to repeat. It lasted several years until renovating and holding plaster boards on my head which started it again. So back to the sling., not had a problem for 20+ years but I hang onto the sling kit, just incase.
If you should fall again buy some French RAP cream and apply asap with liberal amount - it is a wonder cream there is a 90+% you would have no bruising or pain; rub it in and apply often.
@@sydmarsh3478 thanks for the info. Have a great day
Thank you James,
you really solved my dilemma of choosing between the Verve and Dual asport. Now I understand why ther is no suspension fork on the Verve series. So the wider 45mm tires would absorb the shocks, and the shorter reach would make suspension fork not doing much.
I hope you make a comparison between all verve 1, 2, and 3 of 2021
But for me it is either verve 2 or verve 3 at least for its suspension sest post.
Thanks again.
I am between the dual sport and Verve also.
What about Verve 4 comparison ?
Why are they on 12 month order? They have obviously proven the demand.
I would not hold out for the seat, though other reasons may justify the 2 or 3. I found it a bit gimmicky and it does take a bit of getting used to as it will rise up when unweighted and you are expecting the seat to 'fall away' at that moment. It also plays with your seat height. It's not so much as a seat spring but a spring with a slip/stop in that it will hold it's position till enough force is applied to overcome and move it. This has the seat come to a riding position which is somewhat variable and does change as different forces move it. So if you have a favorite seat height and need to get it exactly right, this seat would not be good for you. However because the seat height does vary and it also does absorb shocks I do suspect it makes the butt and the leg muscles handle the miles easier than a solid post.
@@DavidStrchld would you think the Dual Sport with a comforter seat (wide with spring) be enough for bumpy terrain or trail/sidewalk rides?
You actually made a point with the variable height due to the spring post. I have never thought of this.
Good point. A suspension fork at this price point would be junk - added weight and maintenance for a rider that doesn't really need suspension. After all, it's a comfort bike. Perhaps some light gravel here and there but if you're looking for anything with rougher trails, a comfort bike isn't what you should be looking at. Proper tire pressure and a good set of grips e.g. Ergon will do more for rider comfort than a junkie suspension fork.
I’m buying this no doubt
Sweet!
Love my verve 2 step through great for people with bad back like me.
Truly is! have fun with your bike
Hi Mike. Are you still enjoying your V2 step? I just started my search for a bike and really like the Verve step.
Can you put a 1x12 on this bike
I test rode this a few months ago. It was far from comfortable other than the posture. Bumpy as heck and jittery. The dual sport was way more comfortable
Is the fork 1 1/8 "threaded?
Can the stem be lowered or just angled forward and back?
Is the shock absorption on bumps just as good without the front shocks? I know you stated the tire acts as the shock, but does that compare to a dual sport with the front shocks?
It seems to work well, mainly because there is not much weight on the front anyway due to the upright riding position. Is it as good as shocks? No but if you are going to ride the bumps get a front or full suspension, but yes it does do a lot for the bumps when you do hit them, again mostly because of the less weight in the front.
Now that the pandemic is ending, where can we buy this for a great price? $749 plus options is very high? I also heard that Trek sends out discount coupons sometimes. Is this true?
Are the 2021 and 2022 verve 2 the same or was it updated
Any discussions, show and tells of steel hybrids/bike touring bicycles? Steel can handle more weight than an aluminum frame?
Check out my video on the Steel Trek 520 here: czcams.com/video/zU6Mvz3sKBg/video.html
Is the Verve 1 a good option for someone who is coming from a Walmart bike and wants to get into some fitness riding (need bike to be comfortable)?
Unless you can do without the suspension seat post of the Verve 1, then go for it
Would this bike be good for longer distances on rails to trails? Currently doing 20km with my old hybrid but would like something that is faster and easier to ride.
IDK what your old hybrid is, but it was a big step up from my old hybrid. I've gained 2 mph on Komoot with no extra effort. The upright position means I can finally sit how I would like to sit and see the world instead of my front tire, though I would appreciate a drop position at times, at least that ability so I may eventually get a different style of handlebars which would allow a lower position that once in a blue moon, maybe. It's so at home on paved or stone dust rail-trails that the miles just go by. Gravel may be still doable but I suspect I would rather have my suspension bike.
What's rear sprocket tooth range?
Between 2021 FX2 Disc, Verve 2 Disc, and Dual Sport 2 - what would recommend for mostly city/street commuting, with the occasional off-road/trail runs?
bike shop told me if 75% is trail ridings get the dual sport, if 75% roads get the FX and the verve would be for 50-50riding both road and trail
Do you recommend this bike for for a person who intends to ride mostly on the road or paved paths? Some of the paved paths are a little rough in spots but not all bad either. There is also the potential for hard packed gravel, but this scenario isn't a must. My main goal is for fitness, and I have bad knees and lower back. I feel like I'm settling for second best with the Verve 2. I originally thought I wanted the FX 2, but shortages will have me waiting until Jan. 2022. I'm not able to see either bike, but availability of the Verve 2 will be this summer. What are your thoughts? Thanks.
It would work great for that type of riding.
@@Jamesthebikeguy Thanks for your reply. I ordered it a few hours ago, and the ETA is for mid August.
Thank you for your video. We are wanting to make a decision on a purchase by tomorrow. We were originally looking to buy a Shrek Dual Sport 2 His and Hers. Then since I have a neck issue. I am leaning more towards the Ladies small Verve 2 Disc Lowstep to be able to sit more upright . What do you think about the comparison for my husbands bike. He is 6' . How would you compare for him the large Dual Sport 2 with the large Verve 2 if we will be riding together? Thank You.
Enjoy your new bikes
@@Jamesthebikeguy Could you please answer my question if possible? Since I am getting the ladies small Verve 2 , should my husband go with the Men's Lg Verve 2 or the Lg Dual Sport 2? Thank You.
How much weight does it take?
Is it possible to install a 1x drivetrain on the Verve 2 or Verve 3?
Anything is possible, and I was hoping the 3 had a 1x however it does not and I went with the 2 and the 3x works very well. I really like that at an easy press I can drop a gear in the front to get ready for an incline.
You should try a road bike with a fox 34. What do you think?
That it would be a very misplaced bike
Aren’t they running bigger this year
Surprised that the Verve 2 weighed almost 2 pounds more than the Verve 1 during your video weigh in
How does this compare to the Specialized Sirrus X series?
This is more like the Specialized Crossroads. The Sirrus X is comparable to the Trek Dual Sport.
I saw the price (post on social media) of this bike in Philippines, the price is about $3000.
Thats a lot of money in the Philippines. Is that typical for bikes in your country?
@@Jamesthebikeguy yes, more popular brands are more expensive.
The stem & Handlebars steel or Alum? Thanks
Alloy
Do you think i can put a road component on this bike with a flatbar shifter?
Sure. But what would you be looking to gain?
Oh I changed my mind, just installed a deore xt gs on 1X setup and it works.
My only question is that is it possible the stem of it (quill)?
these types of bikes should be 1x, so many ppl, are confused by the shifting
If a kid can do it, so can an adult. Tons of bike that parents get from Walmart have crappy 3x7 gearing (mostly mountain bikes) and the kids learn and adapt just fine. I don’t see why an adult can’t do it. Just takes practice!
I converted mine to 1x, put a 42t up front, stock 7spd in back. Works great for me. Might upgrade to 8spd next year, but not a priority.
where canI buy this Trek Dual Sport 4?
This isn't a dual sport, but your local trek store can get you any trek you want
Thanks for your video. What size frame would you recommend for a 5.10 or 176cm body, medium or large?
Large
What is the cost of the bike and does it matter which one I get for a female or male?
I got the Disc verve 2 because I couldn’t mount the step through one on my bike tow hitch without spending another $100 for a bar that snaps in between the bike handle bar and seat. Also the bike was hanging too low causing the tires to rub on the street if I was going up the drive way. So went back and got the Disc version and works great 👍
Anyone know if the Verve stem fit on the 2021 DS2? I called my local Trek dealer and they couldn’t answer
It will not. The Dual Sport is a threadless headset and the Verve uses a threaded headset. Those two types of connections are incompattible including the stem.
@@Jamesthebikeguy Thank you
Include a clip of someone riding the bike 👌🏼
I wish I knew how
@@Jamesthebikeguy Tripod?
Is the Verve 2 worth the extra $130 over the Verve 1?
Depends. If you plan to ride a fair amount and would like the extra adjustment/comfort of the handlebar and suspension seatpost then it is 100% worth it.
How much does it cost ? Thanks
Can you add a phone holder on this bike ?
These are sexy looking bikes! Nice
