    Got this using the Ride To Work scheme. Possibly the best purchase I've ever made in my life. 21 mile round trip to work over hills, through parks and busy roads, and the journey is the best part of my day! Big cheers to Balfys Kingston for the recommendation!

      How easy is it too cycle up hills. I currently have a Decathlon Riverside Btwin 500 and I cycle up a fairly long steepish hill on my way home from work and really find it a struggle. I'm contemplating purchasing an ebike, but the cost of purchasing a decent one is putting me off. I'm wondering if maybe it's just that my present bike isn't that good for hill climbing.

      @@gheebuttersnaps9341 yeah I have quite a few hills to navigate. I think it handles pretty well. Light frame helps and (especially if you have a good run up) I can clear hilly areas on gear 2-3 without too much problem

    Hey James bought this exact bike(blue one) about a month ago. Decked it out w/all bontrager lights, rack, duotrap setup, road comp, blender mt system. And it is AMAZING. A true urban assault vehicle. I’m 55 and ride a combination city, bay trail, gravel and everything in between. Love MTB but dirt getting harder to find in Bay Area. Anyway this bike simply delivers the goods. For the price point I don’t see how you can beat it. Oh, by the way, great vid and great videography. This bike seems to get the short shift next to the D/S, and I agree front boingers are nice, but the weight and maintenance isn’t justified unless you’re riding serious off road. Dual discs will put you over the bars so use caution. Thanks again.

    I'm gonna buy this in a few months. I wanted a road bike, but in Beijing the roads aren't the best in some places. The hybrid is a good option because I will also be using it to bike to mountians and lakes for fishing. Thanks for this video it helped me make a decision.

    The 3x drive is great. People wanting a 2x or even 1x because it's "easier" is nuts. It's simple to shift gears and I like having more gear options. 1x is for steep. 2x is for rolling hills. 3x is for fairly flat. That simple. This is a fad like the belt drive. A few years they'll be bringing 3x back.

    Picked up the bike last Sunday. Love it. It’s thanks to reviews like yours that help buyers like me make their decision. Ive got what they call “the grain” colour, which has a light green colour to the frame. Considering there is no suspension, it’s a very comfortable ride with a nice saddle. One tiny issue I found when I rode away, the transition between the first and second gear on the front cassette, it doesn’t engage smoothly. I have to give a quick tweak to the lever to get it to engage correctly. Will return when I take it in for the free 6 week service from Evans.

    Yes. Trek can sell as many of these as they can make. Here in Memphis, our extensive bike trail network is full of ‘em. The blue looks very nice. Nonetheless, I still question use of a 3x. An entry-level rider has no idea how to properly use it. Those stamped and riveted chain sets are trash. I do see, however, that Trek is slowly introducing 1x into their more upscale hybrids. Let’s hope that trickles down.
    Also, why the older model Acera derailleur? M3000 has been out almost 3 years. Does Trek have a huge warehouse full of these things? Or did they find a few containers of older derailleurs at a garage sale somewhere?

  • @syedzgaming
    @syedzgaming Před 3 lety +4

    Awesome videos you have. I deliberated a lot and went with Giant Escape 2 Disc 2021. Reasons:
    1.2x drive train instead of 3x. The 30tooth smaller ring in My Giant coupled with a slightly larger cog in the back 34 vs 32 on the Trek is enough for me for road use. 3x drivetrains should be shelved by now..I imagine I would just find myself shuffling through the gears a lot..I know from experience.
    2. Giant has room for larger tires 45mm as opposed to probably 38 on Trek..look at the differences in clearances between the two. You can do some gravel riding if you want. This is what I bought the bike for as a born again lockdown cyclist...to ease me into gravel riding eventually. Dont have the money to shell out for a full fledged carbon bike yet.
    3.Escape 2 disc looks sportier with a shorter head tube..looks closer to a road bike than a cruiser..vice versa for Trek.
    4. I picked up both in a shop and the Giant felt slightly...slightly...lighter.
    Some drawbacks:
    Giant has an Altus derailleur in the back vs Treks Acera and Giant uses their own D shaped seat post tube for their D fuse seatpost..which means you cant use an aftermarket suspension seat post for more comfort. Giants D fuse seatpost offers some comfort flex but its not a suspension seatpost. Something to keep in mind. :) Apart from that both are top choices for born again cyclists. Cant go wrong with either. Dont make the mistake of buying a mountain bike when you are just starting to cycle again. Buy a fast bike like these two. My Escape 2 disc just flies lol...

  • @Rocky4719
    @Rocky4719 Před 3 lety +1

    I’ve had the 2020 version in blue, and it rides beautifully. Only issue I have are the pedals and the 3x crank. At that price I’m sure they could go 2x at least, cause I rarely even shift the front anymore. I’ve gotten by in my area on a 1x8, so a 2x8 should suffice for most people. Heck, go a step further and make the fx 2 a 2x9. I honestly can’t wait for the day trickle down tech makes the mid level hybrids absolutely beastly. At least for trek. Still, the bike is awesome at what it’s supposed to do, which is be a reliable commuter.

(I also purchased 2016 Trek 7.3 & 7.2 for my college boys) (I also have a 2016 Trek Marlin 5 hard tail MB.... which I LOVE, especially for long distance pavement rides; it’s surprisingly FAST, and still versatile!)

    This model is great for intended purposes, a solid entry level fitness bike that is flexible for casual riders. But if you start riding consistently and become an enthusiast you will quickly outgrow it since it has limited upgrade capability. I bought this model early 2020 cause it was the only one available. I have since ordered an Fx6 that will hopefully arrive in June.

      If you're gonna use it only for city rides you should definitely go with the fx2, the suspension on the other ones only add innecesary weight to the bike, obviously if you wanna ride on bumpy hills you will need suspension, but its not necesary for city rides (pavement) .

    Hi James, thanks for the wonderful review. We got two FX2s last week, I moved from a Scott Sub Cross 50 and wifey traded her Giant Liv Tempt 3. We have a mile long gravel path in the track next to where we live and I am not sure if it's ok to take the FX2 on that path, wifey especially feel it a bit more because she moved from the Liv with those massive wide tires. Do you think the FX2 will be alright or should I exchange to something like a Dual Sport 2 or 3?

      Did you end up pulling a trigger on one of these? I’m between the FX and Dual Sport as well. Probably going to be doing 75-25 road-trail but want to make sure this can handle light trails.

    • @bvengalil
      @bvengalil Před 2 lety +2

      @@ransomcreech3995 Hi, I did exchange the FX2 - after a week's usage, moved to the FX3. The main reason was the behavior on good surfaces (not sure if it was just my bike or the alloy fork). The FX3 with its carbon fork and better handlebar was much smooth and compliant (even with its 32c tires). The FX3 manages the light gravel paths quite well, but it won't be as comfortable as the Dual Sport. My wife just sold off her FX2 and she is waiting for a switch to 2022 Dual Sport 2/3. She hardly venture on to roads, and mainly ride on bike trails and park connectors.
      Another point - if you are planning for either of these (FX2 or Dual Sport 2), make sure to get the 2022 models. The drivetrain is much better compared to the basic 3x8 drivetrain in the 2021 models.

      @@ransomcreech3995 Hey, I am not an expert but I would say it's almost a 2021 FX3 when it comes to drivetrain.
